Physical Description
Haytham’s height puts him on the outer edges of average for his Egyptian ethnicity, making him a bit tall but nothing that stands him out too much. In fitting with that ethnicity, he has a deep tan. Some people may make the mistake of calling it a light “black” skin color. He has some slight muscular development, but it is generally hard to notice unless one is specifically looking for it.
He has intense red eyes. They are fairly serious, but they are not unyielding. It is more that lurking just beneath their surface is the feeling that you don’t want to mess with this man. His eyelashes are extremely pronounced, but they are in no way feminine. He has a black marking curving down and a bit inward from the outer edge of both eyes. it tarts think and tapers to a much thinner point at the end. The shape is sort of a thick vague half-circle.
Haytham has medium length hair of a rather vibrant shade of yellow. His bangs are somewhat pointed and seperated into three distinct clumps. It is possible he would have two more clumps on the outside if he didn’t gather his hair in front of his ears in long thick strands. The strands are held in place on either side with a long strip of off-white linen tied around. The knot is very small and in the back, so it is hard to see. It gets wider the closer to the bottom it gets. The bottom hangs about 2/3 down his neck and is comparable to a soft shaving brush in the way it is laid out.
Most of his hair is straight, but it begins to get a bit more complicated about halfway down. It begins to fall into organized clumps similar to the ones that make up his bangs, but thicker. That part of his hair also has two layers, with the lower layer loosely mimicking the clumping above it. The way it falls is somewhat comparable to thick plumage as one might find on a bird. It comes all the way down his neck, just a bit past where the strands in front of his ears fall.
Haytham tends to dress in muted yellows, blacks, off-white linen, and various gold (as in the precious metal) accesories. He doesn’t as much have a favorite outfit as one he tends to be seen in the most. That is what he is wearing when he arrives on the Island. The shirt is a short off-white linen piece. It has no sleeves, an un-hemmed collar, and is short enough it exposes his belly button. It is more than possible the shirt is at least a size too small for him. It would ride up if he didn’t keep it attached to his belt in the manner he does.
At either side of his shirt, a gold diamond shaped clasp is attached. At the other end of the clasp is a thin black leather belt piece. It comes down to his belt, which is made of the same material but a lot thicker. It is attached to the sides of the belt on either side by another gold diamond clasp. His belt is held on with a large gold buckle. The buckle itself is similar to a diamond, but the top and bottom are straight. Around his belt are small gold diamond shaped studs. They are evenly spaced from each other in sets of two, one near the top and one near the bottom. They start out further from the edge of the buckles than they all are to each other.
Haytham has a sleeveless vest over his shirt. It is a muted yellow in color. While the top and bottom appear more or less straight from the back, the front curves up and in from the bottom. From the top, it curves down and in. This forms a sort of raised pointed piece near the center. The entire vest is short, coming only about half-way down his chest. About an inch from the edge is a thick black stripe. The vest is held shut by a single gold diamond shaped button, which is on the normal side for men’s clothes. The edges of the vest at the arms have a thick gold piece built into them. They form a sort of false shoulder guard. The gold guard has three studs in it, with the largest one being at the apex of his shoulder and the smaller ones to either side of it at an equal distance. The studs are shaped like diamonds, but rounded a bit so as to not be sharp.
For pants, Haytham wears muted yellow jeans. They aren’t faded, it is just that the yellow is of a paler color. The jeans are of a lighter yellow than the vest, but it is not by much and therefore somewhat hard to notice. He wears his jeans somewhat tightly, but he still has full range of movement. The jeans have four pockets, one at either side and two at the back. The jeans are a touch long and so clump a bit near the bottom. He wears them over the top of his shoes.
His shoes are black leather and have a very slight point to them. Only the parts that are actually on his feet are visible due to how he wears his jeans, but they have a fairly standard top. Just below the ankle is a strip of gold that forms a slight “v” shape. The point faces the point of his shoes. It goes up at a slight angle and comes across just above his ankle in a straight line. This isn’t visible because of how far down his jeans fit. Near the pointed tip is a large diamond shaped gold stud. To either side of it is a smaller version of the same stud. They are rounded like the ones on his shoulder guards, making them decorational rather than a potential weapon.
Haytham has tall fingerless yellow gloves. They are of a similar shade of yellow to his jeans, but because they aren’t denim the color is slightly off. Just below the elbow joint is a very thick armlet made of gold. The gloves attach underneath at the bottom, making them part of the same piece of clothing. Large rounded diamond studs come up from the armlet all the way around. They are evenly spaced.
He also has a pair of earrings. They are long clip ons and they clip around the edge of his ear in near the top of the side. They form fit his ear. They are gold.
Weapons
Haytham doesn’t carry any traditional weapons on him. He does, however, having a casual interest in the card game known as Duel Monsters and has a deck of forty cards as a result. He has a side deck, but it isn’t a full one. Haytham’s deck focuses far more around traps and spells than actual monsters. The style is known as a “Trap” deck. When it comes to monsters, Haytham heavily favors those with a “Light” attribute.
The cards need to be mentioned here because of how they function on the Island. Cards from his homeworld work like the stone tablets used in Ancient Egypt. He can summon the monsters and use his Ba (life force) to use the spells and traps. Due to his Abilities/Powers, he can use many of the cards in ways not directly reflected in the game they were made for, allowing him a greater versatility than many Duelists on the Island.
Abilities/Powers
Haytham is the avatar of the Ancient Egyptian god, Ra. He represents mainly the power of the entity as a single, but able to draw upon the many combinations expressed by Ra throughout the history of the religion. He has known that his identity as a human was merely a convenience since he was thirteen, and it is perhaps better to say he has always been Ra and that “Haytham” never technically existed, merely a Ra that didn’t know he was Ra. While capable of fully blending in within the human world, his appearance is merely an alternate form.
He isn’t all powerful, but he does possess a lot of the powers one might expect from a polytheistic deity at the technical head of his pantheon. His powers center around things such as life, light, and the sun. They will be better developed in plot, but they do tend to be fairly dynamic. He has the ability to use various magical abilities associated with being the technical head of his pantheon and the chief god of the sun.
In regards to his Duel Monsters cards, he can use them in manners that simply can’t be reflected in something like a card game. His power as a god was at its peak when Ka were being used naturally and has better understanding of the usage of such things than most humans have ever had. He has a natural Ka that requires almost no effort to maintain, but it is linked to a card possessed by Atem. The limitation due to this expresses in that both of them can’t use the Ka at the same time. However, Haytham could easily take dominance and prevent Atem from summoning The Sun of God Dragon.
Skills
Haytham is very clever. He is good about using his environment to his advantage and adapts well to new and changing situations. His intelligence does tend to fall on the upper ends of average, but he is able to come across as knowing more than he actually does because he uses the intelligence he has to its full ability.
He has some rather random seeming skills as well. For one, he can pilot a boat. Not a cruiseship, but he could manage a large ferry or something small like a fishing boat designed for lakes. He isn’t a survivalist, but he does have some basic nature skills liking telling the time of day by the position of the sun.
Haytham speaks Egyptian Arabic as his first language and can read Standard Arabic. He can speak English as well, and while he isn’t quite fluent he speaks it with enough ability to be understandable to anyone that can speak the language. It is a result of how well he did in school, and English was a required course. It comes out most often in his grammar, and he does have a strong accent. Because he is the avatar of an Ancient Egyptian diety, he can also speak and read Ancient Egyptian.
Personality
Haytham is capable of fitting well in most social situations. He isn’t a social butterfly, but he can pass through them with little to no stress. He has a fairly relaxed stance about him, his ability to be serious present mostly in his eyes. He has a fairly relaxed nature and doesn’t seem the sort that would be easy to rile up. He can get a bit mean when he jokes around, but most people can tell he means well.
He has a serious side, and it contrasts strongly enough to his standard attitude that it is a bit scary. He doesn’t seem to get angry, reacting more with a stoic stance and flat stare when he gets angry. He tends to be a bit over the top in terms of being practical when things are serious. He can be infuriating because he is so hard to truly rile up. He states the facts as they are. He has a high tolerance for differing opinions, but just because he accepts them doesn’t mean he agrees with or will follow them.
Overall, Haytham is fairly relaxed. He sees no point in arguing when someone else has made their minds up. He can be rather blunt with his opinions, but he is very open and honest. He does despise unethical acts, and under all his many layers exists a quiet vigilante. He’d show no remorse over killing someone he felt was a criminal, making him a dangerous sort of calm.
History
Haytham Sultan was born on May 8th to a widowed mother. About eight months prior to his birth, his father had been killed due to his involvement as a judge of a court case where the defendant had been found guilty. The man was in custody on the day Haytham was born, but his death was scheduled for later that year. It didn’t happen as the criminal managed to escape custody. Haytham’s mother was killed and he was placed in an orphanage. He was adopted fairly quickly, and for much of his life his full name was Haytham Nejem.
His adoptive parents were upfront with not being his real parents, and Haytham was a fairly good child to them. He did excellent in school and seemed more or less normal. However, as he got older he became more and more interested in the man that had killed his parents. He had never been found again, and Haytham was already conducting private research on trying to find him before his age had even reached the double digits. It caused a slight distance between himself and his adoptive parents. It was pretty bad by the time he hit thirteen.
About halfway through his thirteenth year of life, Haytham found some information that allowed him to track down the man. It was a completely stupid move and the young teenager should have probably died from it. However, latent powers he had been born to carry manifested as the man decided the best way to shut the child up was to kill him. Haytham managed to incinerate the man out of subconscious self defense, and he realized that despite his shell he wasn’t human at all. Haytham was only thirteen when he realized he was in fact the avatar of the Ancient Egyptian god Ra on earth.
Haytham’s relationship with his parents greatly improved after that, although he did make a formal request he be allowed to use his biological parents’ surname. The weight of what had happened to his birth parents off his shoulders, he was able to concentrate on being a normal human. The presence of Ra as human was as much a safety measure as anything else. This particular incarnation had been manifested to receive the part of his soul that had been trapped since Ancient Egypt. The pieces had been set and the “Nameless Pharaoh” had been reborn, so it was only a matter of time before the fight of three thousand years ago finally came to a close.
When Haytham was sixteen, he was assaulted by a fifteen year old named Asim Kader. Haytham knew who the blue haired teenager was as soon as he had seen him. Despite his obvious and destined strength, Haytham was able to easily dodge all of his attacks. Via a series of tricks and careful calculations, he managed to knock Asim clean out. Once the teenager was down, Haytham dug into his pocket and found some contact information. He got Asim back to his house and told a lie to the teenager’s parents so that he could be by Asim’s side when he woke up. Haytham gave the surprised teenager a rather long lecture about what he was really fighting for. He managed to get through the teen’s thick skull and they ended up becoming very close friends afterwards.
About a year ago, the Monsters and Wizards card game localized from America got a massive revamp to be more accurate to the original game. ‘Duel Monsters’ was released to coincide with the start of a tournament known as Duelist Kingdom. While Japan had gotten Monsters and Wizards after Egypt, the African country received Duel Monsters after Japan had. It was all part of a marketing campaign where creator Pegasus J. Crawford focused on the cards returning to their origins, as the inspiration for them had come from Ancient Egyptian heiroglyphs. Haytham knew that the battles of the Ka and stone tablets had returned in modern times as a simple game, a key piece in retrieving the memory of the one who was known to history as the Nameless Pharaoh. When Asim chose to get involved in the game, Haytham played along with him.
Haytham watched the footage of the various Duels in the tournament, following the Japanese teenager the subtitles were calling Yugi Mutou with interest. He’d seen the pendant hanging around the teenager’s neck, and knew after the first battle that it was in fact the Nameless Pharaoh that was doing most of the fighting in the tournament. He was not unaware that Asim was focusing on the pendant as well, but he gave his friend no hints. He knew that it was probable Asim was going to awaken soon. As predicted, something clicked for Asim during the tournament final. When asked, Haytham told him that he’d known Asim was the Guardian of the Gods and representation of the river Nile. Haytham was amused by how well Asim seemed to take it, and harassed the man about it a bit.
After that, the two continued their relationship as they had before. While they were both gods, they had both chosen to take human forms and live as humans in their current life. Asim fulfilled his role as Obelisk towards Ra when a power brought forth Ka to the world. In fact, he was so good at protecting Haytham that the man had to harass him about not being able to do anything. That fight did put both of them in a coma when the Nameless Pharaoh was forced to call upon their Ka to fight the evil sealed within the Atlantis ruins, but it was all marching towards the inevitable end.
That inevitable end never came. Haytham felt part of himself leave the current dimension, the part of himself that Pegasus had sealed with the god card known most commonly as Ra. He informed Asim that something had gone very wrong with destiny, and did something he had never done before. He pulled his rank within the Egyptian pantheon and ordered Asim leave the dimension to protect the Pharaoh. He informed him he would follow as soon as he could. It took a few days for them to both leave, and they’d be appearing in different locations within Dimension Island.
Other
Haytham is Ra and is the same entity that can be summoned with his corresponding god card. I talked to NN1, and she said all three of these characters would be counted as OCs. Osiris is ready, and Obelisk is already posted.
