This had taken far longer than she wanted. If it had only been paperwork, she would have sucked it up. Hell, even if it had been as simple as Kenji's long ass time to confirm the identity of the dead body, she could have coped. She wouldn't have been happy about it, but she could have coped. But it had been more than that. No, she'd had to deal with the superstitious jackasses at the station, too.
'Don't anger the gods!', 'It's the curse of the Shrine!', 'We should supplicate pardon!'... Nekoi Chisaki beat her fist on top of the steering wheel. There was no god dman 'Curse of Oyashiro-sama'. That silver haired teenager had known exactly what he was doing. Then he'd tried to kill himself... no, he'd tried to create that illusion. He wanted to claim insanity. chisaki wasn't about to let him get away with that bullshit. And unlike those at the station, she wasn't letting some bullshit "curse" scare her away from justice.
The woman pulled up in front of the hospital. She confirmed she had everything in order before pushing open the door and stepping out. It was now mid-afternoon, but it didn't stop a bit of her breath from showing as she slammed the door behind her. There was a bit much in the way of force behind it, but she didn't flinch. No, she wasn't letting that teenager get away with any of this crap. Maybe she was too involved in the situation, but it didn't change she was the only one at the god damn station who didn't think it was some fucking curse from a vengeful god. Hell, even the best of them wanted to blame a branch of the Yakuza. Jesus christ.
Chisaki was materializing in the lobby less than two minutes later. She already had her badge out and she walked towards the front desk. A few people looked up, but most of them became very busy as they saw she had her gun at her side. The holster was open, she could quick draw it if she had to. She held the badge up before even beginning to speak, making sure the ID was fully visible.
"I'm here to see the teenager identified as Seta Souji. Official police business, I presume he's healthy enough for that sort of thing?"

The receptionist looked up as Chisaki entered the lobby. He frowned as he saw the badge, especially as she stated who she was there to see. Well, at least this time someone he could actually allow in was here. He swiveled his chair toward his computer and pulled up Seta's file.
"He woke up about two hours ago," the receptionist stated. "Room 1304." He didn't bother giving Chisaki directions to the particular ward Seta was in. She was a police officer, and he figured she could find her way there herself.
-----------
Souji was honestly a little bored. He was also pretty sure the only reason they hadn't let him leave was because of the business with Adachi. He was stuck here until the police came to speak to him, and who knew how long they would take. The Shikome standing in the corner didn't make the world's best conversation partner, either, and she still made him rather nervous.

Chisaki nodded and gave a quick and neutral thanks to the man. She closed the badge with one hand and stuck it in her back pocket. The man had either done as instructed and not allowed visitors or wasn't willing to tell her otherwise. It was probable she would be able to tell from his reactions. She'd have to talk to Adachi as well, but for now Souji was far more on her mind. She swore she wasn't letting him get away with a plea of insanity. Maybe Adachi had accidentally shot that girl (he was likely going to get probation at least for that), but Souji had nearly killed Adachi and then tried to "kill" himself.
The receptionist had been right, she hadn't asked for directions. She turned and headed down the hall he had indicated. Directions in the hospital were clearly marked, and directions were easy to ask about.
----------
Souji's feelings of nervousness were justified. Shikome was keeping a disturbingly close eye on the situation. This meant she was either glaring at Izanagi's spirit presence or staring at Souji. It was a sort of uncanny valley when she did the latter. A ragdoll whose eyes had been crafted with far too much realism. Something alive, and yet not. She had been staring at Souji with that flat observance when the door to the room clicked.
Chisaki had her badge out and showing as she swung the door open. Her expression from out from under her pink hair was flat. However, her weight shifted in a way that implied she felt a chill. She had no way of knowing it was caused by Shikome's hidden presence within the room.
"My name is Nekoi Chisaki. I'm with Void City Police Department Division 22. I am here to ask you questions about the incident that took place earlier at the Apartments. I trust you are prepared to answer?"

Souji had been staring down at his bedsheets again when he heard the door click. He looked up and turned toward it just as Chisaki walked in. He sighed as he saw who it was. It was the police officer from the apartments who had found him after Izanagi had forced him to slice his arm open.
Izanagi had tolerated Shikome's glares. It wasn't like she could do much to him in his current state. The most she could do was report to Izanami any actions Izanagi forced Souji to undertake. The god seemed rather amused as Chisaki walked in, though. It was likely Souji would be arrested after this was all over, and it wasn't like he could pin Adachi's condition on him. Souji wouldn't lie like that.
Souji gave a nod at Chisaki's question. He could tell this wasn't going to be fun.

Chisaki folded up her badge and grabbed a chair near the door to the room. She pulled it closer to the bed and swung it around. The way she sat put the back of it in front of her. She leaned forward a bit, keeping her hands on the short back of the chair.
"I want to hear your explanation of the situation before we go any further," she stated. She wasn't exactly following protocol with this. She was well aware of that, but odds were Souji wasn't. She didn't know how aware of the story that had been told to the police about the incident, so she chose to keep it to herself. Just what would he say in a situation like this, "It will help me figure where to start the questions at."
Her words were polite enough, but her expression was a bit aggressive. She wasn't going to tolerate it if Souji tried to talk his way out of it. Souji seemed to have a lot of friends, and it would be well within her jurisdiction to question all of them. It was probable that any inconsistences would come up as a result of that.
Shikome was giving the human woman a close stare. Izanami had made it clear she wanted no harm to befall Izanagi's avatar. So if this pink haired woman tried anything, Shikome would be interfering. For now, the situation seemed neutral.

Souji kept his eye on Chisaki the whole time she was moving to get the chair. He didn't need to seem depressed or weak right now. She would likely interpret that as guilt, and while it had been Souji's own fault, he didn't need to show her that. She was giving him a rather aggressive expression while she told him to explain what had happened.
"Alright," Souji said. "Iza--" Souji paused and swore as he realized what name he'd been about to use. The police didn't know "Mana's" true identity, and this officer already thought he was crazy. He closed his eyes again and started speaking.
"Mana was over at my apartment for Christmas. She was helping me frost this cake when we heard this loud noise outside. The two of us and Teddie, this friend who's been staying with me, went to investigate, and all the sudden this guy grabbed me from behind. I didn't see who it was, but I don't think he realized this was about the time Adachi... san tended to get home from work. Adachi-san saw what was happening, and tried to shoot the guy. Adachi-san's aim's not all that good, though... I think Mana realized he was going to shoot me and pushed herself between Adachi-san and me, and... she got shot instead. The guy ran off after that; I didn't get to see who he was.
He paused and kept his eye on Chisaki, to see if she had any questions she wanted to interject with before he moved on to the more... painful bits. He... really didn't want to talk about what happened after that. After all, the grand majority of what he'd just said was a big fat lie. Everything after that would be the actual truth.

Chisaki had narrowed her eyes as Souji changed gthe anme he had been saying. Iza... she didn't seem pleased as her mind completed what he may have been trying to say. Given that Shrine at Bonsai and what she knew about Souji due to previous events, she couldn't ignore it. She didn't interuppt him though. A comparison between Mana and Izanami, then? That didn't make her any happier. This psychopath was going to try and blame it on some god's curse. She knew Adachi, and it was rather likely the idiot had blabbed something about that curse. Guy wouldn't have been able to keep his mouth shut with duct tape over it.
And then Souji continued. Chisaki listened to every word and tried to listen to the inflection of his voice as he spoke. All of the careful listening went out the window as Souji finished up. This was why it was an advantage so many people had been involved. With this, she wouldn't even need to cross examine Adachi. She would, but Souji had just blown a hole right into his story.
"He ran off without attacking Adachi."
It wasn't a question. It was a flat statement meant to make it blatently clear to the teenager the mistake he had made.

Souji blanched as Chisaki spoke. That had been part of the bluff, hadn't it. That the same person who had "attacked" him had been the one who had attacked Adachi. He wasn't doing very well for pleading his innocence, was he?
"If he did attack Adachi-san, I didn't see it," Souji said.
He didn't like this officer. She already thought he was insane. The subject of whether that was true or not was a separate issue, but the fact remained that the one person he had to worry about the most right now thought he was insane. She was smart, too. She'd picked out that hole in his story instantly. The fact was, Souji didn't think he could talk his way out of this one.

Chisaki caught his expression shift. She'd caught him. The greater issue now was preventing a plea of insanity. The way he'd been stabbed... she'd have to ask for photos. But she had a feeling he'd just gone for a show with that. Her expression had turned into more of a glare.
"He couldn't have fired a gun in the condition he was brought to the hospital in," Possibly untrue, but she knew the teenager was cornered. He may make further mistakes, "Your 'attacker' came up behind you, and Adachi shot at him. You had blood on your knuckles before they cleaned you up. Who attacked Adachi?"

Souji was looking back down at his bedsheets as Chisaki continued to speak. She was directly accusing him now. And she was right, the evidence was all there. He couldn't talk his way out of this.
"...I did," Souji said. He squeezed his eyes shut. "After Adachi killed Mana, I just... I just got so mad at him... I don't know. The next thing I knew Teddie was pulling me off of him and pleading for me to stop and Atem was telling me to snap out of it." He pressed his hands up against his forehead. "I didn't want anyone else to die... I just... couldn't believe Adachi had killed someone else again..."
That was yet another contributing factor to how Souji reacted. Part of it had been anger at Adachi, even though it wasn't even Adachi's fault. Souji knew it hadn't been Adachi's fault, and hell, he'd even made a point about that before. But the way Magatsu Izanagi had acted and the face he'd worn then... it had reminded him just too much of Adachi's true self. Izanagi and Adachi had more similarities than Souji cared to admit.
There was something else there, something Chisaki would likely catch. Souji had implied that this wasn't the first time Adachi had killed someone like this. Chisaki wouldn't know about Adachi's past; the only one who knew at the station would be Takahashi, and Takahashi would drop hints about Adachi having a bit of a dark past whenever Adachi was being particularly troublesome.

Chisaki looked startled as Souji admitted to what he'd done. He wasn't even trying to talk his way out of it, he'd just put it out there. She blinked. Was he aware that by saying that, he'd thrown his whole story out the window? She tried to regain her composure as Souji went on. She couldn't fall for what was very likely an attempt to claim insanity. She was more focused on those thoughts then Souji until the last sentence. Her head shot up in surprise and her eyes went wide.
Dozens of insignificant little details that had been nagging at her fit into perfect place, making an almost complete picture. Takahashi had taunted Adachi since he came to the station, holding something relating to his past over his head over half the time. Takahashi had vanished for a bit there, and had then accused Adachi of trying to kill him. It had been passed off as tiredness (officially. Unofficially there had been whispers of a curse) and he'd been given some time off to recover. Adachi had shot Souji's "attacker", and Mana had gotten in the way and gotten herself killed... not insanity, self defense. It removed the supernatural completely... would he know? She had to ask.
"...Did Adachi try to shoot you?"
She didn't like what this meant. At the very least, it meant they had a murderer on the force. One that Takahashi was protecting. It meant Takahashi had been telling the truth, and that blond who had made the report had been covering for him as well. A face she had never seen on the man's eyes was slowly coming to light. More and more problems were nagging at the back of her mind. While she was handling things at the station earlier, she'd heard someone had reported a missing person. One that Yamada had said Adachi had been taking care of. All of this lead to only one thought. Shit.

Souji looked back over at Chisaki as she asked her question. He looked down. Should he answer this question? Despite what Souji thought about Adachi, this was Souji's own fault. His and Izanagi's spat had caused Adachi to get possessed and try to kill him. He sighed and nodded.
"....I know this probably contradicts what I just said, but please don't arrest Adachi," Souji said. "It wasn't his fault. Not this time, anyways."

Chisaki wasn't quite sure how to respond to that. He had to at least be arrested. He'd gotten a girl killed, whether she was his intended target or not. And what Souji had said meant he had killed people in the past. Of course, there was the fact that it was before his arrival on the Island. Even giving that, he'd tried to kill since coming back here. Was she buying the words of an insane teenager? She put both hands on the back of the chair and hesitated before standing up. She stepped back and pushed the chair to the side before remembering something. She looked back at Souji.
"Why did you try to kill yourself?"
She had no confirmation that's what he had done. Before, he had claimed he didn't remember. She still didn't buy that part. She considered for a moment. Giving the calender, was it possible he'd been on a date with that miko? If she'd taken a bullet for him... Dammit, she didn't want to admit the kid was suicidal. From what Adachi had let slip out about him from time to time, he didn't seem the type.

Souji felt relieved as Chisaki stood up. However, Souji was all too aware of where Chisaki was likely going to go from here, and there was really nothing he could do to stop her regarding that. Any excuses he could think up would just lead into a subject Souji did not want to talk about with this woman.
He looked down as she asked him why he tried to kill himself. Souji shook his head. Well, at least he wouldn't technically be lying.
"I didn't try to kill myself," Souji said. "If I did, I don't remember it."
He looked back down at his bed before looking at Chisaki again. "Hey... Do you know when I'll be allowed visitors? I heard someone say I wasn't allowed visitors until after the police came and spoke to me, so..."
Of course, Shikome didn't count as a visitor to Souji. She was more a bodyguard, one that no one else could see. Not like she talked much.

Chisaki frowned. It was worse that she didn't think he was lying. For now, she'd have to let it slide. Suicide was a crime, but if he didn't claim to remember it... of more concern was Adachi. If he'd tried to shoot Souji, the worst they could do was give the kid a slap on the wrist. It would have been self defense. She was turning when he asked his question. She turned back towards him.
"Likely tomorrow. Given the stitching they did on your arm, they may release you then as well. Thank you for your time."
She didn't give Souji a chance to respond before walking out the door. Right now she had to talk to Adachi, get his side of the story. She wouldn't trust that face of his... no, too many things pointed too well to what that teenager had said. She adjusted her outfit and calmed her nerves before heading towards reception.
-----
About five minutes later, she was opening the door to Adachi's room. The man was asleep. She frowned as she looked at him. If he was a killer... she shook her head. She had to give the man credit for his mask, if nothing else. She stood by the door and made sure her holster was secure before she cleared her throat and spoke.
"Adachi, I need to have a word with you."
