Atem cut himself off. He couldn't complete that line. Because it was a lie. He wasn't pushing people away? Then what was he doing? Jounouchi's words had stung quite a bit, as well. Hadn't Yuugi taught him anything? Atem looked down.
He wasn't that strong. That was it, he was terrified of losing everything. He almost laughed at the irony. He'd been willing and ready to move on because he knew Yuugi was strong enough to live his own life. Had the situation been reversed, he couldn't have taken it. The friends he'd made in this life were closer than anyone had been allowed to be to him in Egypt. Mahaad had scolded Mana whenver she had tried. They didn't see him as a Pharaoh, they saw him as their friend.
"What happens if I get someone killed, Jounouchi-kun?" he looked up, his eyes harsh but unable to mask the worry, "I'm not as strong as my Partner. I can't take it if I lose the people most important to me."

Teddie's face showed a complete lack of comprehension. It wasn't so much that he thought Souji was being mainpulated by Izanami, it was just that he was acting funny. He looked towards Kanji as he made his remark, and looked even more confused.
"What do you mean?" Teddie asked. He looked spaced out for a moment, "He acts different around her than me or you guys! Even if Izanami didn't do anything to him... Hey, don't keep secrets!"
He now sounded insulted, or as insulted as a confused child was capable. Cause he was radiating that at the moment. He already looked young, but at the moment he seemed all of six.

Naoto and Kanji exchanged a glance. They both looked a little unsure on how to explain this to Teddie. No matter how they did it, Teddie was going to freak. Finally, Naoto sighed and turned back toward Teddie.
"Well, Teddie..."
"Sempai's got a thing for Izanami," Kanji said before Naoto could get a chance to explain. She glared at Kanji before looking back toward Teddie.
"It would appear Souji-sempai has developed an... attraction for Izanami," Naoto explained. "That is likely why he has been acting so odd around her."

(OOC: I miscounted days. XD He'll be up tomorrow.)
"You won't," Jounouchi stated. Atem looked startled at his surprise. Jounouchi looked annoyed and let out an elaborate sigh, "Yuugi won't let you. If the guy is good at anything, it's protecting his friends."
Jounouchi gave Atem a firm smack upside the head. The former Pharaoh stepped forward in surprise, grabbing his head and giving an annoyed look at the taller blond. Jounouchi was already looking towards the door.
"You gotta put your trust in others a bit more. You'll just end up burning out if you can't rely on your friends. You don't want to lose the people important to you, but you're important to us. I've got an idea about what you were supposed to do before, but I know what you should do now."
Jounouchi looked a bit annoyed, "I learned something from Yuugi. You're nothing if you don't have friends you can trust. Now cheer up. I''m gonna make myself sick if I keep this talking up."
Atem looked at Jounouchi. The guy seemed annoyed, but he could tell a lot of it was for show. He was right, of course. Somewhere along the line, he'd forgotten it. If anyone could prevent the inevitable, it really was his Partner. Atem gave a firm nod and a trace of a smile appeared on his lips.
"You're right. It's Yuugi, after all. I shouldn't give up without fighting."
Jounouchi gave a thumbs up, "Now there is the Pharaoh I know."
Atem looked towards the door, "If we don't go out soon, I have a feeling the others are going to bust down the door."
"Wait, what?"
"Partner, we'll be right out!" Atem said.
Jounouchi winced at the distinct sound of crashing, followed by something that sounded like Anzu shouting. He looked at Atem with a questioning look. The former Pharaoh was facepalming, but a warm smile was on his face beneath the hand.

"Partner, we'll be right out!"
This was immediately followed by Anzu jumping back in surprise. She crashed into Honda, and in his attempt to catch the other teenager Yuugi was dragged down as well. Even Haytham winced at the spectacle, and it was followed by a less than amused facepalm at the following chaos.
"Honda-kun, watch where your fingers are!"
Anzu smacked Honda in the face as she flew to her feet, her face bright red as she adjusted her chest. Yuugi looked a bit like he'd swallowed a bug as he looked between the two of them. A glare from Anzu kept him focused on helping Honda up. That look had actually never been directed his way, but he distinctly remembered Jounouchi getting it a few times...

Teddie looked confused still. In fact, there was a long enough pause that it was probable Naoto thought she was going to have to explain herself again. And then his eyes widened and one could all but see the lightbulb above his head.
"Why would Sensei like Izanami!?" Teddie said, "She completely screwed up my home! She's really mean! He shouldn't hang out with someone like her! I-I mean, she took a bullet for him, but..."
(OOC: Also, worth note? I'm preeetty sure Souji never got arond to telling Teddie about Izanami not being the issue this time. XD Also, the decision about Nyarlathotep. GOLD. I'm gonna PM you that app and you'll see why =D)

Naoto placed a hand on her head again as Teddie spoke. She honestly had no clue either, though she had her doubts Izanami was behind the fog. Despite some of what Souji tried to say, Izanami had not broken the spirit of her promise. If she had been the one to summon the fog, that would mean interfering with humanity.
"I honestly don't know, Teddie," Naoto stated. "It might have something to do with Souji's status as Izanagi's avatar, but honestly, I have no clue why he might like her. Perhaps he sees something in her we all don't."
Kanji groaned. "Don't look at me, either. I ain't got a clue what Sempai's thinking."

Atem and Jounouchi stepped out of the apartment as Honda was brushing his legs off. He was putting a bit of test right on his right. Well that was gonna be sore tomorrow. Between Malik and now Anzu...
"Atem, is everything okay?" Yuugi asked, leaning a bit past Honda but still ready to provide support if needed.
"Everything's fine, Partner," Atem had a slight smile.
Atem had been about to say something else, but he was cut off by Yuugi throwing his arms around him. Atem's eyes widened in surprise as the slightly shorter teenager spoke with his face buried in Atem's shoulder.
"I'm glad you're okay..."
"Partner..." Atem gently pulled Yuugi off, "Were you that worried?"
Anzu had locked up as Yuugi embraced Atem. She looked away while trying not to grimace too much. Honda blinked and looked between her and the two spiky haired teens. He opened his mouth to ask a question when Jounouchi put his hand on his shouler, saying something quiet in hopes the others wouldn't here.
"Keep your mouth shut, she's torn up over it," he lightly gestured towards Anzu.
"I thought you were going to run off and sacrifice yourself or something!" Yuugi said, the relief replaced by annoyance.
Haytham cleared his throat. Atem looked up towards the blond, followed by Yuugi stepping to the side and joining everyone else in glancing his direction. He took a look towards the two Items worn by Atem and Yuugi.
< "Pharaoh, I am unable to take any of the Items off your hands. You are aware of your remaining options as well as I. The Ishtar heir and the reincarnation of your cousin are it. Given the danger you are in from the former, I would suggest you try harder with that Kaiba fellow." >
< "Neither of those are options! You're informing me that my only option is to sit and let Zorc return? I won't allow it. Kaiba won't take the Items, he wants Zorc's return." >
None of the group could understand the conversation the two were having. What every member of the group caught was how Haytham paused and his eyes widened. He seemed to be looking for something in Atem's eyes, but he didn't find it. Yuugi looked at the others and confirmed they were as confused as he was. Whatever Atem had just said, it had completely shocked Haytham.
< "Is he a fool?" >

"Sensei is coming out of the hospital tomorrow," Teddie seemed a bit more cheerful just by that, "I thought for sure he was gonna be in trouble but the police let him go even after he almost killed Adachi-baby!"

"Woah, seriously?!" Kanji asked incredulously. He gave a wide grin. "That's AWESOME!"
Naoto raised an eyebrow. "Why are they letting him go free that easily? If he really did nearly kill Adachi, I doubt he'd get away without any charges, even if Adachi chose not to press charges (which, by the way, I highly doubt)."
"Aw, who cares! Sempai's not been arrested, and he's getting out of the hospital tomorrow!" Kanji said with a grin.
"I suppose..." Naoto said hesitantly. She didn't want to let this subject rest, though. It seemed there were more people she'd have to talk to tomorrow...

Haytham's expression was flat. He was quite worried, despite not letting it show. If Zorc returned, even by a bit, his power would only grow. But he couldn't take the Items, despite not explaining the reasons why. At least the Pharaoh had taken his word in that regard. There was a long awkward silence, with no one quite sure to say. Jounouchi and Honda both gave hard looks at Haytham, and Anzu was shifting her weight a lot. Yuugi opened his mouth several times, but he couldn't find words. If Atem couldn't figure out what to do, then what? Atem broke it with a question to Haytham.
< "If the Items are demonic, could a demon safely handle them?" >
Haytham gave Atem a confused look, < "If one's power was great enough, quite possibly. But of what purpose is that knowledge? Even if you were to know a demon, I am sure you realize they can not be trusted." >
Atem ignored the comment after the confirmation. He turned to Yuugi, "Partner, are you certain we can trust Abel?"
"Of course! I'm sure he'd help us if we needed it. Why do you...." Yuugi paused and his eyes widened, "That... you want him to watch one of the Items? That's way too much to ask!"
"Wait, that demon guy you mentioned? How the hell is that a good idea!? Kaiba is a bad enough option!" Jounouchi stated, "Even if it wasn't too much to ask!"
"Jounouchi-kun, he did what he had to! He'd never use them for anything bad!" Yuugi stated.
"So what? Wouldn't that Cain guy do something screwy?"
Haytham noted the names being used. Cain and Abel? Those... were familiar names. His pantheon was a fair bit familiar with the being YHVH.
< "I see no advantage to trusting the Hebrew people," > Haytham spoke, < "And I am unfamiliar with what Abel has to do with demons." >
Atem glared at him, < "I am not fond of Abel, but I would rather he watch the Items then Malik. If you have a better idea, now would be the time to present it." >

Teddie seemed happy at Kanji's reaction. He nodded in a manner that shook his whole body at the voice. He looked at Naoto as she expressed her concern and seemed confused.
"Kanji-kun's right! Besides, I don't want Sensei to be stuck in the hospital! It was horrible for Nanako-chan!"
The two blondes had the potential issues going right over their heads, in other words. And Teddie was feeding off the strongest emotion in his environment, as usual.

Naoto put a hand on her head and groaned. Those two were completely missing the point. Souji was possibly in more trouble than those two thought.
"Yeah, seriously. Remember Nanako-chan?" Kanji asked.
"That's really not a good comparison, you two," Naoto stated. "Nanako-chan almost died, remember?"
"So did Sempai!"
"Which reminds me, I need to talk to him about that when he gets out of the hospital..." Naoto said to herself. So many people to ask, so little time... at least we don't have the end of the world hanging over our heads anymore... instead we have Souji-sempai's possible arrest.
