This whole conversation had brought a change of plans for Anpu. With how he understood the modern legal system, if he could get excused of his actions he'd be a free man. He wouldn't have to hide in the shadows and he could start from the ground up on many of his plans. He'd intended on escaping custody during the transfer, but this had the potential to work better.
"What do you get out of all this, anyhow?" Anpu asked, "I find it hard to believe you'd help me out of the kindness of your heart."

Kousei gave a smirk, and put his hands in his pockets as he spoke. It would appear to be a simple gesture showing that he'd relaxed a bit, but actually, he was turning off the tape recorder.
"I have to do pro bono work sometimes," Kousei said.

Anpu did not miss the smirk by any means, but he looked confused at the response. He didn't understand the word the man had used.
"What the hell is pro bono?"

Kousei lifted one hand out of his pocket and pushed his glasses further up his nose.
"It means work like this, where I help out honest criminals who lack attorneys," Kousei stated. "Don't worry. There isn't a case I haven't won." He gave a low chuckle at that.

Anpu felt the distinct distaste of a dodged question, but he didn't push it. The fact was he already had a basic idea of what kind of person this man was. Whatever his real reasons for doing this, he doubted they were altruistic. He did raise an eyebrow at the chuckle, and considering what he'd seen of this era's legal system came upon a reasonable conclusion. The man didn't lose because the man wasn't afraid to break the rules. Anpu smirked.
"I guess I should be grateful I ended up with you then, shouldn't I?"

Kousei continued to chuckle. He was still smirking as he spoke, and there was actually a bit of glare from the light reflecting off of his glasses.
"I'd say you're unlucky, Bakura-kun," Kousei taunted. "Even once you're out of here, you'll just continue doing what you've been doing, and eventually you'll land back in here. We'll be seeing each other soon enough, and next time... well, let's just say I don't work for free."

Anpu had a rather arrogant smirk as Kousei continued to react. He sat up and swung his legs over the side of the bed before walking over to the bars. He placed his forehead on them and swung both his arms to the side, his hands hanging down loosely.
"Whatever you are those officers refuse to believe, I'm not defenseless," Anpu said, "I really was known as the Thief King of Ancient Egypt, and I'm only here because its convenient for me."

Kousei said nothing as Anpu walked over and made his point. The moment Anpu finished speaking, Kousei reached his hand through the bars and grabbed Anpu by the chin. Had Anpu not placed his forehead against the bars, Kousei likely wouldn't have been able to move fast enough, but Anpu had made that one little mistake.
"Allow me to welcome you to the 21st Century, then." Kousei bent down a little so that he could look Anpu in the eyes. "Where nothing is confidential if it's not stated in a written document."
He pulled his other hand out of his pocket, holding the tape recorder just out of Anpu's reach. He pressed a button on the top of it. A voice that was clearly Anpu's came out of the tape recorder.
"You're saying despite the rather obvious fact that I did this stuff, I could walk?"

Anpu was attempting to pull away, but the way he'd relaxed against the bars prevented escape. He got damn close, though, and therefore had shown how fast he could move when he needed to. Kousei pulled him back towards the bars, and Anpu's eyes narrowed into a glare at the man. They narrowed even more as Kousei adjusted his position to allow the gaze.
He growled as Kousei hit the button on the recorder. Well played, he was aware of, but it didn't prevent the anger from rising. He took the space advantage Kousei had granted him and reached through the bars, managing to grab the older man by his tie, yanking him forward and jerking his chin free in the process.
"Since you're so convinced I'll just do it again, maybe you should be watching yourself," Anpu growled, "After all, I did kill that little girl."

Kousei was jerked forward by the tie grab, causing him to let go of Anpu's chin. His smug expression didn't dissipate, though.
"I suppose it's a good thing guns are legal for citizens here, then," Kousei said.

Anpu let go of Kousei's tie after he gave his remark. He pulled back, putting enough distance that there would be no way he could be grabbed again.
"Don't get overconfident just because modern mundane weapons are more legal," Anpu said. His smirk returned, "You can't hit what you can't see."

"Don't get overconfident about your own skills," Kousei stated. "Overconfidence is what landed you in here in the first place, Bakura-kun."
He stepped away from the cell as well, his smug expression still having not dissipated. "Well then. I have other matters I must attend to, so I must be leaving."
He gave a bow, and walked out of the room.
