As 2010 comes to an end, I post this character app as my last post of the year. Ladies an gentlemen, James P. Sullivan.
Full Name: James P. Sullivan
Nicknames: Sulley
Age: Adult
Height: Tall
Weight: Heavy
Gender: Male
Race: Monster
Alliance: Good
Home: Monstropolis
Franchise: Monsters, Inc.
Physical Description: Sulley is a large, hulking figure with long, beefy arms and short but thick legs. He has light blue fluffy fur with patches of purple, big claws on his hands and feet, and white curved horns on the top of his head. He has blue eyes, a teal button nose, and sharp teeth.
Weapons: His bare hands
Abilities/Powers: Incredible physical strength; capable of pulling a heavy metal door off its hinges and doing 120 consecutive pull-ups without breaking a sweat.
Skills: Back in the old days, Sulley was known as the best child scarer in Monstropolis. Now that a more powerful but friendlier alternative to scream energy has been found, Sulley almost never--if ever--uses that skill anymore. He's also shown some creative skills when throwing together a convincing monster costume for the human girl "Boo" with random materials at hand. Ironically, while taking care of Boo, Sulley has proven he's very good with kids despite spending most of his career scaring them. His few years spent as Monsters, Inc. CEO gave him the experience to develop decent businessman skills as well.
Personality: Completely contrary to his old career of scaring children, James P. Sullivan--or Sulley as he's more commonly known--is just one big teddy bear. He has proven himself time and time again a compassionate and loyal friend who will do just about anything for the ones he cares about. While Sulley is normally against using his immense physical strength for violence, may God have mercy on your soul should you gravely threaten or harm his loved ones and he finds out. Sulley is a monster of simple pleasures; while his friend may go out and buy a much coveted fancy monster truck to drive to work in, he'd be just fine with walk to work, especially during the energy crisis. Sulley may lack the flair Mike uses to charm the ladies (or Celia, at least), but his friendly and down-to-earth disposition (oh, and the fact that he generated a lot of scream energy for the company and later helped solve the energy crisis) makes him very popular around town.
History: James P. Sullivan has been best friends with Mike Wazowski since the two were kids; presumably the fourth grade, as one of Mike's quips seemed to imply. Since he was little, most people have addressed him by a hypocorism of his last name, which became his most common nickname: Sulley. Upon growing up, the duo rented an apartment together and applied for careers at the Monsters, Inc. energy plant. Sulley became a scarer while Mike took on the role of his assistant. Sulley's scream producing records--and his popularity--rose relatively quickly, and it wasn't long before Sulley rose to top scarer and earned the ire of the greedy former top scarer Randall Boggs. It was just as Sulley and Mike were around the corner to breaking the All-Time Scare Record when their lives took one crazy turn.
One day, company CEO and fatherly figure Henry J. Waternoose approached his top scarer requesting he volunteer to give a scare demonstration to some ineffectual new recruits. As that work day came to an end, Sulley stayed behind to file the paperwork Mike forgot to, as the latter was pressed for time to claim a restaurant reservation for his girlfriend's birthday. Just as he returned to grab the paperwork, he noticed a lone closet door plugged into Randall's station. Peering in to make sure no monsters were on the human world side, he unwittingly let a curious little girl through the portal, not realizing so until too late. As human children were widely feared and considered toxic to most of the monster public, Sulley kept her hidden long enough to slip out to the restaurant Mike and Celia were eating at to solicit his best friend's help. But when the girl escaped and attracted the attention of the restaurant customers, all hell broke loose.
While full panic spread throughout the city, Sulley and Mike struggled hard to keep the child hidden. Since Randall was competing with them for the scare record, they assumed he was trying to cheat his way to the record by scaring kids after hours. But when the pair snuck the girl into the factory disguised as a monster child and later overheard a discussion between Randall and his assistant Fungus to "get the machine ready," Sulley started to become suspicious. Despite the negative views of human children, Sulley slowly started developing a soft spot for the sweet little girl whom he affectionately nicknamed Boo after the word she seemed to enjoy saying the most. After he nearly lost the girl for a terrifying brief moment, Mike returned to his side to tell him he managed to get the door from Randall himself. But Sulley didn't trust Randall one bit, so Mike went out of his way to prove the offer trustworthy... unfortunately proving Sulley's point when kidnapped in Boo's place.
After tracking Randall to a secret room below the factory and learning that "the machine," called the Scream Extractor, was Randall's plan to "revolutionize the scaring industry," Sulley and Boo rescued Mike and ran straight to Waternoose for help. They burst in on the training room just as Sulley was scheduled to give his demonstration, and forced to give it anyway, Sulley was ashamed afterwards when he accidentally frightened Boo in the process. The day already going wrong went further downhill when Waternoose revealed he was the man behind Randall's plot in an extreme attempt to save his company and banished the duo to the Himalayas. And then, all the misfortune the pair had gone through for Boo's sake had finally strained their friendship too far, and Mike abandoned Sulley when he proposed going out in the blizzard to find a closet door back to the monster world.
Sulley charged back into the monster world and straight to Waternoose and Randall's secret room to rescue Boo, destroying the Scream Extractor in the process. He was attacked by Randall as he left, only to be saved by Mike who followed last minute. After a long chase that took them into the storage facility full of millions of closet portals, Sulley was nearly sent falling to his death by Randall and was only spared when Boo finally conquered her fear of Randall and defeated him. After banishing Randall to the human world, Sulley and Mike found Boo's door again. Before they could use it, however, Waternoose called the door to the scare floor with the Child Detection Agency at hand, planning to blame the entire thing on them.
Thinking fast, Sulley came up with a complex gambit that led to Waternoose's engineered public confession in the training room, which he'd been tricked into believing was the child's bedroom. As Waternoose was arrested, he accused Sulley of destroying the company, and he solemnly believed him. The leader of the CDA gave Sulley the chance to say goodbye to Boo before her door would have to be shredded, destroying her room's link to the monster world. The factory would've been shut down soon after had Sulley not learned form his experience with Boo that laughter was 10 times as powerful as scream energy, a fact he shared with the CDA. Thanks to this revelation, not only was the company saved, but the energy crisis came to an end as well. For his part, the CDA awarded Sulley Waternoose's old position. For another year or two, Monsters, Inc. continued to prosper. But Sulley never truly felt happy until Mike revealed he'd been spending that entire time secretly rebuilding Boo's shredded door.
From then on, Sulley would secretly visit Boo from time to time to play with her and exchange stories. One day, Sulley discovered the cottage home one of their doors connected to had been transported the southeast outskirts of Void City in the world-bridging Dimensional Island. Curious about Dimensional Island, Sulley kept the door attached to a station in a hidden back room he could lock from either side if necessary. Then he began venturing out into the island on occasion to better understand it...
Other: Sulley comes from Pixar's Monsters, Inc. and Mike's New Car. There is a Monsters, Inc. 2 in the works, but as virtually nothing is known about that movie, DimensionalClash!Sulley will come from a point before any of the sequel's events.
