Kousei sat in his office in Void City, rather pleased with himself. Inpu had been successfully moved to the larger jail that day. He'd remained in his Ryou personality during the entire move, so there hadn't been as much of a problem as Kousei had thought he would be. Inpu was obviously planning something, as was Adachi, but Kousei was rather used to people trying to plan against him. He had contingency plans in case Adachi tried to pull anything. With Inpu, Kousei wasn't worried either. He was sure the man would see reason eventually.
The only remaining angle he wished to investigate related to Atem and Kaiba. He already knew about Kaiba Seto-- an up and coming gaming tycoon who had recently seized the rights of several card distribution companies right under their feet. The man claimed to be the copyright holder for a card game called "Duel Monsters", which had been distributed in several forms prior to the sudden emergence of the Kaiba Corporation, or KaibaCorp for short. The game had ceased production in any form after KaibaCorp seized copyright, but it was to resume production on New Years Day at a festival that was to be held at the local shrine.
According to Inpu (whose info Kousei considered mostly delusions), this Atem's boyfriend was the world champion of this game back in his own world, and Kaiba was his rival. Considering that, it was likely Kaiba had some kind of connection to Inpu that would help in his case. Kousei was rather curious about that little promotion the man was holding at the shrine, as well.
He picked up his phone and began to dial a few numbers. He was calling KaibaCorp's offices. He wished to speak with Kaiba about a few things. And if he could get some kind of corporate "sponsorship"... well, that would be good too.

(OOC: Michelle is a named NPC, feel free to use her. Her first language is English. XD)
Kaiba was filling out paperwork. A lot of people seemed to think he was a figurehead. After all, a teenager of sixteen (with Island time, he supposed he was seventeen. A few months either way was hardly important) couldn't possibly run a Fortune 500 company. Not that he held that position just yet in this world. A problem he was working on fixing. Currently, all he was missing was a final draw at the product launch. There just wasn't enough time to throw together a promotional tournament.
He was drawn from his thoughts by a knock on the door. He paused and frowned. A knock? His secretary wasn't supposed to let anyone past. The door was locked and reinforced in case anyone got stubborn, but...
"...Niisama?"
Kaiba blinked in surprise. Mokuba? He'd left Mokuba at the mansion with a bodyguard in case Enjin tried to show back up. There were standing orders to shoot the man on sight. Which meant either Mokuba had convinced the man to come with or had snuck out. He let out a sigh and pressed a button on his desk.
- "Michelle, open the door and let Mokuba in." -
-----
Michelle was a secretary in the rather small office Kaiba was working out in the moment. She'd seen Mokuba, but knew of Seto's relation to him and had waved him ahead after telling him that the door would be locked. He was by himself, which struck her as odd with how Seto tended to operate. The phone had rung seconds before Kaiba had told her to let Mokuba in, and she fumbled the phone in surprise. She quickly pressed the button and waved at Mokuba to indicate it was open before putting the phone to her ear and responding in English.
-"Hello, this is Kaiba Corporation. Do you know your extension?"-

"Hello, I'm calling from Hikaru Law Firm. My name is Kousei Hikaru, and I wish to speak with KaibaCorp's CEO, Seto Kaiba about some matters related to a case of mine. I would be incredibly grateful if you could patch me through to him as soon as possible, as he may be an important witness for my case."
Kousei was rather fluent in English (which with the island was practically a requirement, as every sign and paper was in English), but he couldn't keep his Japanese accent from slipping through when he spoke. He hoped this secretary of Kaiba's could at least understand him. He would rather not repeat himself.

Luckily for Kousei, Michelle had to deal with a lot of Japanese speakers in her job. After all, even Seto's first language was Japanese, although one could barely hear it when he spoke the language. Legal issues again? Although as a witness? That was new on her.
- "May I ask what this is about and who is calling, please? Mr. Kaiba is quite busy at the moment, I'm afraid." - ----------
"Where's Sato?" Kaiba asked as Mokuba closed the door behind him.
"I left him at the apartment," Mokuba said, "Are you still trying to figure out a way to increase sales?"
"Mokuba, I left him with you for a reason!" Kaiba scolded.
"Then hire better help! It was too easy to get past him, and he should have called you by now!"
Kaiba gave an unkind frown towards his younger brother. With the business where it was at, the last thing he needed was for Mokuba to get kidnapped (again...). And whatever Enjin claimed his powers were, the fact remained the man was dangerous. He was grateful his office was soundproofed, in any case...

Kousei had to avoid facepalming. There was a good reason he rather... disliked talking to Americans, and judging by the woman's accent, she was definitely an American.
"I am Kousei Hikaru, Ryou Bakura's defense attorney. Ryou Bakura is currently being detained as a suspect for the murder of Sakura Nakajima. According to my client, Mr. Kaiba is an acquaintance of his and may possibly be able to aid in my client's defense. If Mr. Kaiba is busy, could you please leave a message for him informing him to contact my office?"

There was a sound of shuffling as Michelle grabbed a piece of paper and jotted down the information. She didn't know of anyone by the name Kousei had mentioned, but it was quite probable Kaiba did. She was just doing the job assigned to her by the employment agency, she knew nothing about Kaiba Corporation.
"I'll transfer you over, Mr. Hikaru. Please hold just a moment," she pressed a button to change lines over.
----------
"At least you're okay..." Kaiba grumbled, "What was so-"
Kaiba was cut off as the phone rang. He gave an annoyed expression and picked up the receiver, "This better be important."
"I'm sorry, Mr. Kaiba, but there is a Mr. Hikaru on the phone for you. He says he is a lawyer representing someone named," she looked down at her notes, "Ryo Bahkura? Do you know him?"
Kaiba raised an eyebrow. Bakura was on the Island too then? Michelle hadn't done so well with the pronunciation of his name, but he recognized it well enough. He had a lawyer now? He gave another frown.
"Transfer the call over, I'll take it," he lifted up a finger to Mokuba to indicate he'd be a while. When he heard the phone click over he spoke in a gruff and annoyed voice, "This is Kaiba Seto of Kaiba Corporation. Make it quick."

Kousei waited impatiently for the woman to transfer him over. When he heard the click indicating he had been switched to whatever line Kaiba was on, he gave a smirk, even as the man began to speak rather rudely to him in Japanese. Well, he was only a teenager, Kousei supposed he should have expected that.
"Hello, my name is Hikaru Kousei. I'm sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused. I'm representing Bakura Ryou. My client is currently in jail under suspicion of having murdered Nakajima Sakura one month ago. My client has said that you are an acquaintance of his, and I wish to confirm that this is true before I continue on."
He paused there to allow Kaiba to react. It was by the man's reactions that he would know how to proceed.

Kaiba raised an eyebrow. Murdered? That seemed a bit drastic for the other teenager. The most he'd seen him do is kidnap. He supposed if this Sakura had thrown too much of a fit... he let out a scoff.
"I'm not too surprised given what he's done in the past. If you're looking for someone to testify in his defense, you'll have to look elsewhere," Kaiba stated, "I know him, although I can't tell you why he'd mention me."

"He seemed to relate you to a man by the name of Atem, who he believes is a Pharaoh of some sorts. This same man has supposedly stolen a pendant from him, though whether that is related to my client's dislike of the man or not, I am unsure," Kousei explained. "If I understand right, you and Atem are rivals of sorts?"

Kousei could probably all but hear the frown as he mentioned Atem. Despite what he put forth to Atem and his poor excuse for friends, he wasn't denying at least the possibility that the man was somehow a Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt reborn. He'd seen those visions, and that girl... he rubbed his temple as he thought what might as well have been her clone. Her name was Kisa? Why did he even remember that? He made a scoffing noise as Kousei mentioned the rivalry.
"He's the only person capable of beating me in Duel Monsters, if that's what you mean. He bears the crown of King of Duelists due to several tournaments in our world. As for a stolen pendant, I can't say I'm entirely sure what you mean."
Aside from his venom in relation to Yuugi and his friends and the rather obvious connection to Atem, he had begun to step more carefully. He'd heard of this Hikaru from Ken, he was a rather infamous lawyer. He'd caught him off guard, but Kaiba was confident he'd given nothing worth value. And his words hadn't been a lie. Last he had checked the group had two Items that could be called pendants. The Ring was the one Bakura usually had, but he wasn't assuming anything.

"My client has described it as a ring shaped item made entirely of gold. There is a triangle in the center of the ring with an eye enscribed on it. Hanging from the ring part are spikes. According to my client, it is worth a fair amount of money," Kousei continued.
In truth, Kousei had the information he needed, at least the kind of information that would hold up in court and wasn't likely the ramblings of a madman. Kaiba didn't think he'd given him anything useful, but he already had, including a way to implicate KaibaCorp as responsible should anything happen to this... "Atem."

There was an extended pause Kousei was sure to note, and likely correctly. Kaiba was considering a response. That Ring was usually seen with Bakura, and despite that pathetic dog taking it off him when he collapsed in the room to give to Atem, it had been his last. If Atem had it, one could make the case for theft, but... Well, he had no intentions of letting Atem getting himself arrested.
"I know it. It belongs to Atem," Kaiba stated, his voice unkind, "What do you want me to say? I believe I already informed you nothing I know could help your client. We are not on good terms."
Not since that bastard kidnapped my little brother, in any case. Just to give me that stupid Eye, of all things. And the asshole didn't even finish the fight!

Kousei held back a chuckle. So there was a bit of an ownership battle going on here. However, considering the words of both Inpu and Atsuro, even if they were lying, it was still more than enough to put out an arrest warrant for Atem. Kousei was sure now that Atsuro had been lying to earn Inpu's trust, but because of how he'd lied, he'd ended up creating more evidence against this Atem.
"I apologize for bothering you, then," Kousei said. "I had hoped you would be able to tell me more, but it would seem not. Thank you for your time."
He placed the phone back on the receiver and finally let himself laugh. This case was only getting more interesting by the day.

Kaiba blinked as the phone clicked on him. The man had hung up on him. He gave a rather nasty glare and slammed the phone down. Mokuba jumped from where he'd been standing to wait for Kaiba to be done. He gave his older brother a concerned look as he stood up and headed towards the door.
"Niisama...?"
"Mokuba, go back home and stay there this time. I'll have a different bodyguard there within an hour," Kaiba said, "I have to go see Ken."
Mokuba's eyes widened, "Wait, your lawyer?! What happened?!"
Kaiba scowled deeper, "I think Atem may get himself arrested if I don't do something, and I am not letting anyone defeat him at anything but myself."
