Nickname(s): Huffy the Magic Dragon (whenever he's in a touchy mood, coined by Fluttershy)
Age: Baby (possibly a good several years in pony years)
Height: Short
Weight: Light
Gender: Male
Race: Dragon
Alliance: Good
Home: Canterlot or Ponyville, Equestria
Franchise: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Physical Description
As a baby dragon, Spike has a small, chubby, roughly humanoid shape. His main scale color is light purple and his underbelly and jaw a light greenish gray. He has somewhat skinny arms with clawed fingers, stubby legs, and an arrow-tipped thick tail. From the top of his head down his back and tail are a row of green spikes ranging from large to small, and to either side of his head are light lime ears that look stretched back. His face is a stubby snout with two overbite fangs and two wide if reptilian green eyes.
Weapons
None, unless you count green fire.
Abilities/Powers
Spike's main ability seems to be ability to create green fire, mainly from his breath. Spike uses his firebreath to teleport scrolls from Twilight Sparkle to Princess Celestia, though it's unknown if the properties that make this possible are in his fire or the scrolls as his fire is known to simply burn other things. On the flip side, Spike can receive scrolls by burping them up in a ball of flame. The process only leaves him some minor discomfort which quickly goes away after one delivery, but numerous scrolls over a short period of time can leave the poor guy terribly ill. It's been stated that, as a baby dragon, he's still discovering his powers.
Skills
Spike's thick scales allow him to endure a a considerable amount of pain to the point where his back can be used as a pincushion and he doesn't feel anything. Despite his small, scrawny appearance, Spike is considerably stronger than he looks. He's known to be able to dig through the earth with his claws and the splay of his tail or use his tail as a jackhammer without easily tiring. Spike is also skilled at various house chores, cooking, library maintenance, and helping Twilight plan events. He's also known to play the piano and could possibly play other instruments.
Personality
While somewhat sarcastic and mocking at times, Spike enjoys being helpful and feeling needed. His relationship with Twilight is almost like that of siblings; he enjoys teasing her a lot but always supports her when she needs it. While as a guy, he outwardly hates anything typically girly, he still feels disappointed if left out of anything in spite of it.
Spike loves being Twilight Sparkle's "#1 assistant", and he's always doing his best to stay on the ball when it comes to helping her, and her friends to an extent, with just about anything. He can be a bit insecure about it and can have trouble adjusting to a new individual taking on responsibility for her. The sudden appearance of Twilight's "junior assistant" barn owl, Owlowiscious, and small series of unfortunate instances drove Spike into a hostile (though fortunately temporarily) relationship with the owl, and Twilight didn't realize just how sensitive he was about the change in routine until it was nearly too late. Spike is also known to have a crush on Twilight's fashion designer friend Rarity, whom he considers the most beautiful creature in the world, and would do almost literally anything for her.
Spike's known favorite food is gemstones, which are known to be able to keep a dragon's fire going. Given how largely abundant gems are in Equestria, no pony really cares if he eats them. Spike's stomach has been known to be... highly agreeable, as he can eat just about anything, even the practically poisonous muffins a sleep-deprived Applejack once made. He's also expressed something of a showman's side, having a love for announcing for events ranging from sporting competitions to fashion shows.
History
Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns in the capital city of Canterlot acquired a polka-dotted purple dragon egg around the same time the parents of a talented young filly named Twilight Sparkle signed her up for the school. As a result, Twilight was required to use her magic to hatch the egg to pass entry. Nervous under the pressure, the young filly nearly gave up on the entry exam when a mysterious rainbow-colored shockwave had an odd effect on her magic. The effect allowed her to effortlessly hatch the dragon egg, but it also left her spiraling out of control causing random magical bursts that levitated the examiners, turned her parents into potted plants, and grew the baby dragon to enormous size. The madness only stopped once Princess Celestia herself showed up to calm the filly and reverse the damage. Recognizing the filly's uncommonly powerful potential, Celestia offered to make Twilight her own personal student. This event also happened to inspire Twilight's magic-themed cutie mark.
As Twilight continued to learn magic as Princess Celestia's "most faithful student", Twilight raised the baby dragon as both an assistant and a surrogate little brother, naming him Spike for the spikes that ran down his back. Spike proved to be a bit more social than his reclusive and book-nosed master, and he agreed with Princess Celestia when she insisted Twilight go out and make some friends. To drive that point home, Celestia sent Twilight to the rural town of Ponyville to oversee preparations of the Summer Sun Celebration. Twilight had little concern over any "friendship making", as she wanted to look further into the fabled impending escape of Celestia's former sister Luna turned nemesis Nightmare Moon from the moon. Ultimately, Nightmare Moon did escape just as Twilight feared, but it was only with the help of five other mares that Twilight was able to find and activate the powerful artifacts known as the Elements of Harmony and revert Nightmare Moon back to Princess Luna.
Following the events surrounding Nightmare Moon, Twilight became somewhat upset to have to leave her new friends in Ponyville. Seeing this, Princess Celestia tasked her with a new assignment: stay in Ponyville to study the various properties of friendship and correspond with her via letters on the things she learns. Spike, of course, stayed with Twilight, and the two made their home in the local library where they essentially became Ponyville's librarians. Spike was there with Twilight through most of the hijinks the mare got into with her friends, though he had occasional leaves back to Canterlot for reasons never explained. When Twilight felt Spike's workload was starting to get the better of him and discovered a helpful barn owl named Owlowiscious, she made the owl a "junior assistant", not realizing just how threatened her #1 assistant felt about it. Ultimately, Spike and Owlowiscious made amends, and the owl only works at night anymore anyways.
When Spike and the girls went to a fancy party in Canterlot known as the Grand Galloping Gala, Spike hoped they could explore the capital city together as he showed them around while they weren't too busy at the stuffy old party. But to his disappointment, the girls were too caught up in their own fantasies and left the poor little guy alone. Spike spent most of the evening binging on donuts and hot chocolate until the girls arrived from having ultimately wrecked the gala. Long story.
After the sinister god of chaos Discord returned, various nonsensical things began happening around Ponyville and Princess Celestia called the six ponies to Canterlot for a briefing. Spike, who stayed behind to hold the fort, was surprised to see the mares return with four out of six acting grossly out of character and one missing in action. When Twilight finally found the missing Elements of Harmony (with no help from her "friends"), she assigned the role of Rainbow Dash (Loyalty) to Spike in order to use the elements to re-imprison Discord in stone.
The substitution ultimately failed however, though mainly due to the lack of harmony between the friends that Discord's brainwashing caused. After returning to the house, however, Spike suddenly found himself spitting up all the friendship reports Twilight sent Celestia over the past year. Rereading her own reports renewed Twilight's spirit and gave her the strength to break through Discord's brainwashing in all her friends, but it also left the baby dragon bedridden for the rest of the day. Once the reunited friends were able to seal away Discord, the six were honored in a large ceremony in Canterlot which Spike attended.
