Personality: He's a nice guy though he needs to work on his bravery. He's willing to help out however he can. He's also a huge anime and manga fan.
History: Shortly after Hal's mother died, his father married a British woman and they had a daughter named Emma. Hal and Emma became very close. Shortly after all this, Hal's step-mother seduced him and they held a brief affair. Unfortunately Hal's father learned of this and commited suicide by drowning himself and tried to drag Emma in too. She was hoping Hal would save her but he was with his step-mother at the time. Because of these events, Emma has always claimed to hate her brother. Otacon ran away from home and didn't see any family for several years. He quit school and educated himself through the internet. He became a huge anime and manga enthusiast as well. Eventually he was hired by ArmsTech, Inc. to develop Metal Gear REX. He couldn't wait to start, as he was excited to build a real mech type robot like the ones from his favorite animes. Unfortunately he was lead to believe that it was a mobile defense system when it was really just a nuclear doomsday device.
Otacon met up with Snake during the Shadow Moses rebellion. He helped Snake in anyway he could. He became infatuated with the FOX-HOUND member Sniper Wolf however and was distraught over the fact that Snake had to kill her. But in the end he came to his senses. He helped Snake destroy Metal Gear REX, but not before it's blueprints were put on the black market. So Otacon and Nastasha Romanenko formed Philanthropy. After this Snake and Otacon formed a partnership as well as a close friendship as they continued to destroy the many derrivatives of Metal Gear REX being built in countries all around the world.
