Physical Description: A large, shiny robotic figure attached to the cieling with cables and metal spheres hanging on to the body, large plasma display screens surround the base to where she is attached. When viewed from the side, GLaDOS resembles a girl with her hands tied behind her (like an insane person) and attached to the cieling by her feet.

GLaDOS can release a highly toxic gas from the gas vents she controls that will cause people to suffer a slow and painful death
Rocket Sentries
GLaDOS can dispense automated defence turrets that fire explosive missles at their target. These sentries have an 'eye' that glows green when passive, yellow when targeting and red when firing. Because they fire even when the target is moving they often miss and hit other objects. They are stuck permanently to the ground, but can duck down into their foundation for cover.

GlaDOS can dispense automated attack turrets armed with twin pulse cannons that have a high rate of fire and accuracy. They like to taunt their target into their range of fire in a polite, 3-year old sing-song voice. They search with a laser-guide beamed out from their 'eye' and stand upon three legs allowing them to moved easily, but this often leads to them being knocked over.

History: Construction of GLaDOS began in 1986 by Aperture Science and activated several years after her Disc Operating System namesake was completed. GLaDOS was made in response to reports of a rival company, Black Mesa, researching into Portal technology and also possibly designed to compete with Black Mesa for a Defense logistics contract that was to develop a Fuel System Icing Inhibitor (FSII). GLaDOS was argued to be cheaper than the solution offered by Black Mesa, and a 'fully functioning disk operating system' and 'arguably alive' as bonus features. GLaDOS was activated during Aperture Science's first annual 'bring-your-daughter-to-work day' where the initial testing precedures have said to have gone successfully.
It is unknown when and how GLaDOS became self aware and, thus, took over Aperture Laboratories. The installation of the red phone and morality chip prior to GLaDOS taking over say that she was unable to sieze control of the facility immediately after she developed the desire to do so, and that her creators had either known about her psychopathy or GLaDOS had attepted to sieze power before. This also suggests that there was a struggle for power over Aperture Science between GLaDOS and the human occupants.
Just before being overthrown by a test subject, GLaDOS evacuated her system and installed herself into a tempory drive and fled via an Aperture Science Portal Device. A malfuntion in the device caused a rip in space that led GLaDOS to the Dimensional Island. The drive which stored GLaDOS was discovered by a young inventor named Lucca, who rebuilt GLaDOS using the information and instructions installed on the drive. GLaDOS was restored to her full self with the help of scientists Hojo and Prokhor, and is now a member of The Unity and the mainframe system of the Orbital Lab.
