Magus' eye twitched. Ellie knew of Crono as well? She had heard of Balthazar. He knew what a game was, and he had finally put what a video game was in his head. Still, it was a bit over his head. Perhaps a teaching tool in the future? He doubted that.
Ion answered his question. His first thought was confusion. Lavos had been defeated. Then again, a millenia in the future did not make it impossible the ability to use magic had been revived somehow. Originally magic had been granted to his people as a result of Lavos, but he suspected it had more to do with the planet itself. After all, Lavos had been connected to the planet as a parasite. And then Ion answered the question.
"Did you say Interdimensional?" Magus let out a sigh, "That... explains things. Still..."
He turned towards the many opening and closing portals, and those falling out of them. His expression harshened, but at no one in the group. Still... if he was in another dimension, how far was he from her now?

"You're from the US? What state?" Tara questioned Elwood curiously; maybe they lived in the same state. In any case, it was just nice to know that there was a fellow American around. For all she knew, the mage and mystic might be from Canada or some other random country. However, her full attention focused on the mage when he answered her question, and her eyes widened. "Wait, what?"
That didn't make any sense. There was no such thing as an Interdimensional Travel Station- was there? Tara scratched at her head, and decided that these guys must be pulling her leg. Rolling her eyes, she reached into her bag and pulled out her small, silver laptop. "This place has WiFi, right?" she asked, turning it on. Tara was going to use her laptop to find out exactly where she was, and hopefully contact someone who could get her back home.
Fizz. Scritch. Beeeeeeeeep. The laptop switched off, and wouldn't switch back on no matter how many times she pressed the button. "What. The. Hell?" she growled, brows furrowing. Wherever she was, something had messed with her laptop. And that was unacceptable. "Okay, seriously. Where the Hell are we? You might as well stop pulling my leg about this 'interdimensional' crap, 'cause I'm not buying."

"It's true," Ion insisted. He sighed. "I used to be from another world myself, called Auldrant, and I didn't expect to show up on here at all. I can't even read any of the signs here because Auldrant used the Fonic Alphabet, and this place apparently uses a of 'latin-based writing system.' Though I'm learning!"
"And I'm his teacher!" Ellie said, raising one hand. This would likely cause some rather concerned and/or shocked reactions from the current company, considering it was Ellie speaking. But what would probably be interesting would be the use of male pronoun for Ion, as the current group seemed to be of the opinion that Ion was very much female.
Not that that kind of reaction wasn't unwarranted. Again, very feminine appearing boy with a hairstyle most men didn't sport wearing an almost dress. Plus his feminine voice and well... it wasn't surprising both Tara and Magus had jumped to that conclusion. The only reason Ellie hadn't when she met Ion was because she new him from the sheer amount of video games she'd played.

Magus spent several more long moments watching the portals. Another world. Which meant he was like as not now a world away from her. He clenched his scythe tighter and narrowed his eyes. If he wanted to find her, he'd have to get back to his world. These Gates had to differ from the ones Lavos had caused. Too many were opening up here. He turned back towards the group, focusing on Ion.
The man was no stranger to language adaptation. It seemed that Lucca's Gate Key had done more than simply opened gates. Any time period could be understood. He'd had to relearn the ways humans spoke in the Dark Ages, but Ozzie had used the language of the Mystics, which had remained largely unchanged over the millenia. It was likely part of why he was shocked when he had arrived. This seemingly human could speak his language and had immense magical potential. This dimension seemed to be working things into the human language of the Dark Ages, at least for him. As for Ion's pronoun, Magus thought nothing of it. It was not unheard of for females to use masculine pronouns. "Normal humans fear what they can not understand. It's a natural enough response. Sometimes that manifests as denial. Let her be, if the fact is inescapable she'll realize it or break. Is there a way back to ones' world of origin?"
Yeah, he was definently focusing on Ion. Even when you took outfits into account, Ion seemed more important than the others. Well, the girl did use magic. He might have lucked into a world where the people recognized the superiority of that skill. He said nothing to Ellie, and didn't react to her words. Definently treating Ion with higher regard.

"...Riiiiiight. Fine, fine, I'll play along, then. Tch. Auldrant, what a word. Where do these people come up with this stuff?" Tara muttered, closing her laptop with a sigh. It obviously wouldn't be any help to her now, but she would keep it in case she found someone who might be able to fix it. She barely acknowledged Ellie's exclamation, the "his" flying right over her head. "Yeah, yeah... interesting. Hmm..."
Tara was just starting to look her precious piece of technology over when Magus spoke, instantly getting her attention as a vein popped out on her forehead. Glaring at him, her brows furrowed together and she shook a fist in his direction. "Hey! I'm not scared, ya big lummox! Don't go talking like you're better than me!! Hmph. And I have the same question as him. Can we get back?" Seeing as this was one of her chief concerns, she pushed the insult to the back of her mind... for now.

Ion shook his head at both of their questions. He hadn't really been looking for a way back, though. He was dead back in his home dimension. Not even dead and buried because he'd faded away into fonons in Luke's arms. There had been no Ion to bury. He supposed it would be a bit of a shock if he showed up now. Anise would probably freak the most. She'd probably deny it was the real him the most too.
He pushed those thoughts away as he refocused on the situation at hand. "I think it might be best if you two stay at an inn tonight until you can decide what to do now that you're here. There's a hotel down the street from here, and they take various forms of currency. You should be able to get a room!"
"Uh... just a warning, though. It's got a bunch of weird stories associated with it. Like, ghost stories and stuff. Oh, and they don't like pets, but I guess you guys wouldn't have that problem," Ellie said. She had spent many a night sleeping outside because of that "No Pets" thing.

Magus had barely acknowledged Tara was speaking, let alone that she was attempting to insult him, but he almost chuckled at ghosts. He feared nothing from ghosts. If Glenn could hear his thoughts now, even the normally calm and polite knight would likely get pissed at him. There was a reason Glenn's mentor had become a ghost, after all. And he seemed bored with the conversation at large. He shook his head at Ion's suggestion.
"I see no need to waste money. I've already decided. I have something... important I'm trying to do. Back in my home dimension. I'm going to work on getting back there, and I'll sleep outside if I must."
Ellie would have a pretty solid suspicion of what Magus was referring to. At least if she considered herself any kind of Chrono Trigger fan. In the normal ending of the game, it was heavily implied Magus would be looking for a girl named "Schala". Now, there was that animation released on the PS rerelease and Cross to take into mind, though. The girl named Kid being Schala's reincarnation for lack of a better explanation. It wouldn't be the first time a "fan" had not realized that the reality didn't always match the fiction. Magus had turned to leave the group by this point.

Tara placed her free hand on her left hip, the other currently holding her laptop. Was this kid even listening? She didn't want to stay here; she wanted to get home! Groaning, Tara shook her head, but listened to his explanation as she looked over her laptop. It was then that she finally realized what was wrong with it, and the realization made more than one vein appear on her forehead this time.
Soda covered quite a large amount of her laptop, something she hadn't noticed before because of all the commotion. Eyes widening, Tara checked her bag and wasn't surprised to find it soaked in the sticky, sweet stuff as well. At least she hadn't had much else in there that would be affected by it; but that wasn't the point. "Oh, come ON!! This is just not my day..." she huffed, obviously upset. Knowing it was too late for her poor laptop, Tara slid it back into the bag and wiped her slightly sticky hands on her jeans with a grimace.
"You sure there isn't a way out of here? I mean, yeah, I have money for a hotel. But I really don't want to have to stay here. Especially in some haunted hotel filled with ghosts and poltergeists. Really, I don't even care if I have to ride through one of those portal-things again. So long as I can get the Hell out of here."

Ion looked pained. As far as he knew, there were very few ways off of the Island. He'd been here a while, after all. He'd been very lucky to find Ellie. She was a little annoying, but she had helped him out quite a bit.
"Ellie's been looking for a way out of here for a while too, and she hasn't been able to get off at all," Ion said. He wasn't sure he liked Magus too much. His appearance... Magus seemed human enough, but his appearance could only be the result of trying to force oneself use the Seventh Fonon when one didn't have an affinity for it via a fonic glyph. People who did that always ended up getting mutated, though it was usually to a greater degree than this. But besides the mutation, there was something that was entirely possible. People who did that eventually went insane from the effects.
Oh, and there was the scythe he was carrying. The first fonons it was giving off were rather ominous to Ion.
Ellie looked up when Magus turned to leave. He had to be looking for Schala. But there was practically no way for him to get home at this rate. Even if he got home, if Magus was here, it was possible Schala was on the island too.
"Wait! If you're here, Schala might be here too!" Ellie called.

Magus had shut the conversation from his mind. He didn't hear Tara screeching. He was walking away, glancing around occasionally. He didn't stop when Ellie shouted at him to stop. And then that name came out. He stopped cold. Mid step, as it took him a few moments to put his foot down. It was very deliberate. He closed his eyes and had to regulate his breathing. She knew about Lavos. She knew about Balthazar and Crono. So maybe it wasn't that off the wall. After all, he'd decided she knew about him from some odd connection his dimension had to another.
He turned around, his gaze harsh enough to be called fiery, "What do you know about her?"
His "fangs" were bared again, his gloves bunched up a clear indicator of how tight he was grasping his scythe. At this distance, he could get out a spell before he was hit. Again, Ion would be feeling a very slight surge in the third fon. Ellie had apparently hit a sore point, but only fans of Chrono Trigger would know why. Everyone else would probably be very confused.

Tara groaned again. These guys weren't much of a help, but they did seem to know this place a lot better than she did. She'd probably want to stick around with them, at least for a little while. Until she got her bearings. "Great." Tara reached into her pocket and pulled out her cellphone, flipping it open. Instantly, a grin formed on her face; she had a signal! "Looks like my luck is turning around."
She quickly dialed her home phone number, only to frown when she got the "this number is not available" message. "That's weird." She tried a few more numbers, all with the same result. Groaning again, Tara shoved the useless phone back into her pocket and crossed her arms over her chest. "Okay, I'm officially out of ideas. But you guys seem to know this place, so I'm gonna stick with you for a while. 'Kay?" she asked half-heartedly.
The conversation between Magus and Ellie was so confusing that she'd tuned it out by now, only keeping an eye on the mystic in case he attacked again.

Ion and Ellie both jumped about three feet into the air when Magus turned back toward Ellie and asked his question. Ion was now worried for Ellie. Considering his previous observations, plus the fact that Magus was gripping his scythe very tightly and the way he was looking at Ellie... Ion was thinking that Magus was very much insane.
Ellie was waving her hands wildly. "Um, well, she's your sister, and she's got crazy insane magical powers or something like that, and... um, her pendant's what you need to open up all of those stupid chests and doors that are everywhere that no one can get open, man those things were annoying, and I really can't remember anything else, it's been a while since I've played, please don't kill me."
She was very aware at this point that she'd hit a sore point. Well, she had brought up Schala. Probably not a smart move, now that she thought about it.
At the surge in third fonons from Magus, Ion went on the defensive, and clutched his staff closer to himself. To any that could sense it, there was a slight surge in Seventh Fonons coming from Ion.
"Oh unyielding aegis, oppose all fonic artes that come your way," Ion said under his breath. It was a bit unorthodox to combine artes like that, but he doubted he had the energy to cast them separately. In fact, it was already draining on him to cast this one on his own.
The two artes he had cast, Barrier and Resist, would protect Ellie from both physical attacks and fonic artes. He doubted Magus had missed him casting a spell like that.

Magus was still glaring. He felt the spells that seemed a bit like a somehow combined version of Protect and Barrier. A bit, Magus had come to the conclusion the magic of Ion's world was different than that of his own. Possibly from a different source, or the ability to harness it had developed differently. In any case, if he made the choice to cast his spell anyhow, the protection wouldn't do much.
Right now he just wanted to make a warning, though. Which mean targeting the area rather than Ellie. The protection extended onto to her, Magus could tell that much. He couldn't nail down the element, but again, magic came from a different source in this case. He moved his free hand in front of his face slightly, Ion would likely recognize the gesture. If he was really listening, he'd hear words. Not that he'd know what they meant without being able to speak Zealot, but he'd know they were Arcane in nature. And they were muttered.
"Ri zumo ni kara... LIGHTNING2!"
The chanting took a few seconds, on the outside. Magus narrowed his eyes. That slight surge of third fons Ion was feeling rose with each syllable. When Magus held his hand forward, the fingers slightly bent, the energy would surge. It focused on the palm of his gloved hand, and in the time it took for a lightning bolt to strike, sheet lightning was shooting out in every which direction.
Magus actually had good control of the spell. It would not be clear he had good control of the spell. In fact, he might come across as the world's worst shot. Because the lightning arced and curved, and hit lots of things. None of them were living. Three soda machines were hit by the lightning and pretty much exploded. Including the contents, so there was a bit of tin shrapnel. Thankfully stray bolts of lightning hit it before anyone could be hurt. A huge bolt crashed down in front of Ellie, just short of her. If Ion was really observant, he'd realize it was odd that nothing living was being hurt. It's because its what Magus wanted. He lowered his hand.
"You will stop treating me like I am nothing more than a character for your amusement. The same goes for Schala," Magus growled.
It didn't sound as dangerous as before, but it was still matter of fact. Magus lowered his arm. His glare was still on the group. He didn't look in the least drained by the spell he'd cast. As if it hadn't taken much effort. It would probably be worrisome to Ion. Aside from the "HOLY SHIT HE JUST FRIED THE AREA WITH LIGHTNING" effect pretty much the entire area was having. People were leaving rather quickly, actually... Magus was remaining to make sure his point had been made.
(OOC: Ani, he didn't hit ANYTHING living. Nor would his attack have harmed any of Tara's electronics. Also, Zealot in this case is "people of Zeal" - He was speaking the langauge of his home kingdom. None of teh characters would know it. XD)

((XD Yeah, got that. No worries.))
As stated, Tara had by now tuned out of the conversation between Ellie and Magus, so didn't even notice her explanation. However, because she wasn't listening to that, she did hear the mage's muttered words. At first she could understand them, but after that it got complicated. Was this girl seriously trying to cast a spell? Can anyone spell "wackjob?"
Scoffing, Tara glanced around, bored and finding her current company either confusing or crazy. Seriously, at least when Danny was confusing or crazy, it was entertaining. As such, she didn't even notice what Magus was doing until it was too late and the lightning took her by surprise. Even if it didn't hit her, it- along with the exploding soda machines- practically gave her a heart attack. Needless to say, she freaked, and very nearly had a panic attack.
"HOLY SHIT!! HE JUST FRIED THE AREA WITH LIGHTNING!!" she shrieked. Tara pulled her hood over her head and then covered it with her arms, shaking a bit as her gaze locked fearfully onto Magus. Okay, so maybe these guys really were for real; I mean, LIGHTING. COME ON. "Oh sweet Jesus, Tara. What have you gotten yourself into?" she muttered in what was close to a tiny squeak.
"I promise to take you seriously now, dude! Just DON'T DO THAT AGAIN!!" she called after hearing his statement.

The moment the lightning had come flying her way, Ellie had shrieked and covered her head with her arms. Holy fuck, he was trying to kill her! Okay, that definitely explained what she'd caught Ion mumbling earlier by quite a bit. She opened one eye when she realized none of the lightning was striking her, and it wasn't just because Ion had cast those spells. And then a bolt struck down right in front of her, causing Ellie to fall back and land on her bottom. She hadn't been hit but, she hadn't expected it to land right in front of her.
Magus was really not helping Ion's opinion of him with this latest spell, considering he'd just pretty much wrecked the ITS with that spell. Ion had been in the middle of casting another protection spell when Magus stopped, and if anyone looked closely, they would realize there had been a magic circle around Ion's feet until he finally stopped casting.
"Okay, okay, I'll stop treating you two like video game characters, just, please don't kill me!" Ellie shrieked again. Jesus christ, had that really been necessary?
What was really worrying to Ion was the fact that the spell hadn't seemed to drain Magus at all. While Ion got drained from even minor spells because he didn't have anywhere near his original's strength, that had been a fairly major spell Magus had just cast, and he didn't seem drained in the least. Ion was giving Magus the closest thing to a glare that he had, which was essentially a very cold look, though he doubted Magus would be the least bit intimidated by the replica Fon Master.
