What an interesting place this was. Malcolm Reynolds, captain of the Serenity, was nearly overwhelmed by the sights here. First there was the organic area, which was odd enough in its own right. Which is not to say that Mal wasn't used to organic areas, not at all. It's just that he didn't see too many trees in his profession. Unless you count that one mud planet, which doesn't count because it was a mud planet.
Quickly following that was that EXTREMELY INTERESTING void of death. The void that Jayne really needed to be held over while apologizing. It was, in itself, pure Nightmare Fuel. He'd basically become a Reaver and proceed to die of dehydration. Awesome.
And now there was this place. This place with so many buildings and such. The frequency of WELL BUILT buildings made it feel like one large Alliance camp. But as he'd already learned, he was no longer in his own universe. That meant the Alliance had no hold here. But... perhaps that was why they were building the portal? To find even more 'earths' to colonize? Would they, then, come for the Dimensional Island some day? Only time would tell.
"Listen, I don't care what you say, but this 'Ditto' thing sounds like it's at a tactical disadvantage." Mal remarked, continuing earlier conversation.

"If you think turning into a cannon at will and being able to do the damage of said piece of equipment is a tactical disadvantage, that's your choice," Zero stated, "But they aren't the easiest Pokemon to train, a lot of them have trouble getting their mimicry right."
Malcom's conversation had only touched upon the world Zero had helped destroy. Helped meaning in order to seal him the entire universe had to be collapsed in on itself. Luckily that part hadn't come up. For whatever reason, there'd been no reason to bring up the modern world Zero had awakened in. As far as Mal knew at this point, the only world Zero knew was the one of Pokemon.
Zero was mildly surprised Mal hadn't asked about how he knew all information about voids and the multiverse. He noted Mal was staring at the buildings and walking more cautiously since they got into the city.
"First you say you didn't want to be anyplace 'organic', and now you're walking as if you're ready to fight at a moments notice. Don't tell me cities bother you too?"

Mal was shocked out of his semi-trance by Zero's question. Okay, okay... had to get a hold of himself. He wasn't back in his 'verse, he was on this... island, thing. The island floating above a lotta nothing. The island which he could not fall off. For if he did, he'd go mad, much like a Reaver, and die of dehydration... wait, no, don't think about that. Couldn't think about the fact that he was basically trapped here. Had to focus on not panicking... not panicking... not... panicking...
"Only... CERTAIN cities. Where I come from, well-developed cities are usually a bad sign. Alliance and all that. And here, without the option of making an escape in Serenity, well..." Mal trailed off, remaining on the lookout for anything odd.
Because a flying ship that glows is totally not odd.

Zero thought for a moment, wondering why he even cared what this "Alliance" Mal seemed to either fear, hate, or both was. Maybe cause he was the least crazy of the people he'd run into on the island. There was the crazy otaku, the self-proclaimed genius he despised, the one Pokemon trainer from the world presented in the games.... maybe it was because this man was normal? Well, so was Prue. But normal in a likeable way. Zero smirked to himself, something Mal might catch. Zero didn't run around liking humans, so the fact that Mal had positioned himself in a position other than annoying mortal (or irritating god, the way he viewed the so-called "Legends") impressed the virus.
"Well, it's not like fights breaking out in the streets are terribly uncommon around here. You're probably one of the most normal looking people on the Island. It does make you stand out a bit."
Mal had only gotten a good look at two residents of the island. One had pink hair (which he probably thought was a dye job) and one white (again with the dye job, really). Zero's outfit was fairly normal despite the color, and Chibi Moon's had been completely not normal. So it wouldn't take a genius to figure out what Zero meant by Mal's appearance making him stand out. Even if he took a look at the crowd in the area that would become apparent. The odd outfits, hair colors, and body types... well, that's what the captain got for not stepping out of some animated franchise.

He glanced around at the various people they were passing. He really WAS one of the most normal here. Even his clothing, brown trench coat and all, was relatively normal. I mean, hey... it's not like he was Goku or something, right? And at the very least, he didn't have snow white hair or glowing green eyes.
"You're pretty normal yourself there, all things considered. Not as normal as that fella in the shop over there, but still pretty normal." Mal responded, returning the aforementioned shop owner's stare.
Speaking of the shop owner, he may have just won the award for most used NPC ever.
"You know, I'm a bit thirsty. Is there a bar or something of the sort around here?"

Zero sighed at the comment of the bar. The only one he knew off... well, he and a certain Ridiculously Human Alien had gotten into a bit of a scuffle there. Said RHA was now ridiculously dead, but it didn't mean the bar owner wouldn't recognize him. Then again, as he had told Mal, violence wasn't exactly a rare thing on the Island. So perhaps it would be fine.
"This way. The owner is sometimes a bit picky about who he lets in, but if you've got any kind of record in your homeworld things should be fine," Zero paused, "You do have a record, right?"
Zero was of course referring to the bar's tendency to only allow people with a "noteworthy skill" in. Despite coming from a world where Firefly had aired on the television, Zero didn't know anything about the captain of the Firefly named Serenity. The show had fallen under many a radar, and having been cancelled after only fourteen episodes and a movie, wasn't exactly well known outside of geek circles. Coming from a franchise aimed at kids, Zero tended to only know about such franchises. Its not like his purpose in his world had been to study the media...

Malcolm had to pause for a second and actually consider this. DID he have a record? Most of his jobs went under the radar, after all. Then again, he WAS in a mix-up with the law at least five times. And then there was that time with the Reaver... hm... he supposed so.
"Yeah, I've got a record. Not sure that it counts much without Serenity here to boast with. But I suppose that's what this gun and these fists are for." Mal responded, recalling a very interesting event happening in episode 3 or 4...
But that is neither here nor there. He waited for Zero to knock on the door because, well... if he wasn't able to get in, he'd possibly have to resort to his firearm. Which the other man had already expressed a dislike of.
