Colors and weird swirly patterns. That was all that Braeburn Apple could see as he tumbled around. Eventually, he hit solid ground... with his face. "Ouch!" Shaking off his dizziness, the world around him started to come into focus. "W-what the hay?" Trees, trees as far as his eyes could see. "This ain't Appleloosa..." He was too stunned to say his town's name the way he usually did.
He reached up to adjust his hat... only to find that it wasn't on his head. "Aw, buck! Where's mah hat?!"

They were supposed to be together! But the minute the remaining ponies of Ponyville had entered the portal, something seperated them. Rarity was on her own, a large cowboy hat on her head. She took it off and examined it. "Is this... Applejack's?" she silently questioned. However, as she continued to look it over, she realized the shape and size wasn't right. It couldn't be hers. "No... ugh... where am I? Is this what Twilight was talking about? Dimensional Isles... it looks just like the Everfree Forest." Picking herself up onto all fours, Rarity began to look about, unaware of the shadows behind her, stalking her.

Braeburn looked around for his beloved hat, muttering "Ah, dagnabbit; that's mah favorite hat! Where could that thing've gotten to?" He looked in the brush around when he suddenly heard a noise nearby. The stallion was put on edge almost immediately; just because Equestria was a peaceful world didn't mean that there wasn't any dangers; Appleloosa was exposed to more of them than typical.
After a bit, Braeburn said, "Who's there?"

Stalking through the bushes, Rarity grimaced. She hated going out into places like this where her coat and mane could be easily ruined. Ugh~! Must remember to find a place where I can brush my coat after I find my way out of this Celestia-forsaken... That was when she heard a familiar voice calling out. She knew she had been making noise walking through the brushes, but if someone was there that could help, she wasn't going to take any chances. She walked out and noticed the stallion before her, carrying his hat on her head, easiest place to carry it. She looked at him for a bit before remembering. "I remember you. You're that dashing stallion from Appleloosa." She took a step out to meet him.
A sharp pain etched across her face. It came as a shock first, the magical bolt of energy traveling across the air from behind her. She wasn't even bothered that it took off some hair, not an amount that would be easily noticed, but something that would bother someone like her anyway. However, when the pain finally hit, she gripped her face, stifling the harsh scream that nearly left her muzzle. Pulling her hoof away, she noticed the red liquid upon it. Is that... Turning around, she noticed three robed figures there. One of them spoke in a language she did not understand, but she saw him conjuring more magic. This time Rarity saw it coming and knew, the moment he launched it, to move to the side.

Braeburn had relaxed a little upon seeing Rarity. "'N Ah remember you. Yer one of mah cousin AJ's friends; Miss Rarity, right?" Braeburn was pleased; not just meeting somepony else... but her in particular. When he met Applejack's friends, he had liked them all well enough... but something about Rarity had caught his eye. ...Of course, he had no idea what, exactly.
At the shot of magic, he ducked. ...When Rarity screamed, his eyes widened. "Miss Rarity!" He saw the robed figures and, thinking quickly, bucked a decently-sized rock at one of them. Afterward, he dashed in front of her. "Don' worry, Miss Rarity; I won't let them get 'ya. Stay behind me." He snorted, pawing the ground in a challenging stance.

Rarity watched as Braeburn pretty much knocked the caster out cold with that rock and stood in front of her. But the other two decided to join in. Speaking that same foreign language, she expected them to conjure up something again. However, a glowing dark circle appeared directly underneath both of them. Rarity would not move, even if Braeburn did, and as a result she would be taken off guard by the sudden explosion of shadow energy. It would send her into the air and cause her to collapse. One of them walked towards Rarity, drawing a knife from his robes.

When the circle appeared beneath them, Braeburn jumped to the side, away from it. At the explosion, his eyes widened. Braeburn glared at the two and said, "That's no way to treat a lady! Yer gonna get it now!" He bucked another rock at the one further away, then ran towards the one with the knife. Turning quickly, he bucked at him directly.
...He had been aiming for the knife-wielder's chest... but his aim was a little off. He ended up bucking the knife-wielder in the throat. Braeburn turned back towards him, saying, "How'dya like tha-...wha?!"

The one who got bucked in the throat began choking hard at his position collapsed on the tree before he finally lost all consciousness and passed out, quickly dying without the ability to breath. To make matters worse on the poor innocent pony, the second one of which he bucked the rock at took a sharp point directly into the skull and fell into the ground, blood pouring from his head. The third was beginning to wake up, but Rarity, having been struck twice, was not going to have it again. Her horn glowing, she threw her own rock at the man and knocked him down again before walking towards him and unmasking him. Seeing the kind of people from before, she grimaced. "So they came to Equestria from here then..." Then she remembered. "Braeburn!" She made her way over to him.

The blood from the one he bucked a rock at had flowed over the ground, covering Braeburn's front hooves. The poor pony had never killed before... even during the incident with the buffalo in Appleloosa, no one had died... the chief was merely knocked out for a little bit by the pie. Braeburn stumbled back a bit, falling onto his haunches.
He slowly raised his blood-stained hooves up where he could see them. Braeburn drew a slightly-shuddering breath as what he had just done sunk into his mind. His stomach started to roil in nausea. "M-Miss Rarity..." his nausea overtook him and he dashed to nearby brush, emptying his stomach.
After he had finished, he shakily walked back, away from the bodies; he laid down on his stomach, taking shuddering breaths. "A-ah... Ah just k-killed someone..." He shuddered and gagged again as the word left his mouth. "Ah'm a... a monster..." ...The poor guy felt awful about what he had done... even if it was accidental.

Rarity watched as Braeburn went and vomited in a bush before coming back just to collapse in self-pity. She knew he didn't know. How could he? He would've been in Appleloosa during the raid on Ponyville. However, she felt horrible that he felt so self-derogatory. So she did what she felt she had to do. She walked over and put his hat on for him. "You're not a monster. You didn't mean to do it and even then... they..." She didn't like to think this, but after what happened, it was the truth. "They deserved it. I've seen these figures before back at Ponyville. You would've been in Appleloosa at the time, but they tried to burn the city as well as kill everyone in it. They came along with these other outlanders from a different world... and we may just be in their world now."
Rarity was wrong in assuming they were in Azeroth, but how could she know better. "We have to be careful here, dear. If this is that world... they called it 'Azeroth,' I believe it... then we're in severe danger."

He looked up and grimaced. "...Thanks, Miss Rarity... Ah needed that... and thanks for findin' mah hat." He nuzzled her to show his thanks. "Ah heard about the attack from AJ... but Ah never heard what they looked like..."
He slowly stood back up, still a little shaky. "Ungh... kinda unsteady... If'n you're right about us bein' in their world... we better get outta these trees; someplace a bit more open so they cain't ambush us. Ah think there's a clearin' over that way..." He started to walk over in that direction. "Ah won't let 'em hurt ya..."

Rarity almost flushed a bit once he had nuzzled her. Brushing it off as some sort of fluke or trick of the wind, she nodded and led the way. She had no idea where she was going, but she figured that she'd at least look for a clearing where she could find somebody (no ponies that she knew of after all) and ask them where they were. Noting Braeburn behind her, she nodded at him and continued her search. They didn't seem to make much leeway, but that much changed when Rarity noticed something that caught her eye.
It was a house. It didn't seem like it was Equestrian style, naturally, but it also looked occupied. "Who would live out in a forest like this?" Rarity muttered to herself. Then she turned to face Braeburn. "Let's stop and ask for directions. Maybe the owners of this establishment know where we are."

"Ah'd hope so... ah hope they could spare somethin' to drink or eat..." His stomach growled slightly. "Stomach ain't too happy 'bout me emptyin' it..." The stallion kept his eyes alert to the area around them, following behind the unicorn. "Dunno who'd live'n a forest this dangerous..."
When they arrived at the door of the house, Braeburn walked up. " 'Low me, Miss Rarity... might be dangerous." The stallion knocked on the door, wincing slightly as his blood-covered hoof came into his view.

Rarity watched as Braeburn took the front to knock on the door. Like a true gentleman, she noticed. In fact, it was quite riveting to her. Once she had crushed upon Celestia's nephew, Prince Blueblood. Now while the idea of being royalty had tickled her fancy at the time, what she had been really looking for was a man who knew how to treat a lady, for she certainly knew how to treat a man. Blueblood had been the complete opposite of what she sought, a selfish, greedy, loathsome creature. Yet Braeburn was already proving himself in her eyes. Defending her, protecting her even now, and having gone so far as to kill to make sure she wasn't harmed, even if it had damaged his mind. She had to make sure to repay him for that, not wanting him to believe she wasn't grateful.
The door began to open. Rarity stood ready for anything and then...
"Rarity?! Is that you?!"

Braeburn's mouth opened in surprise. "Whuh? Well, ain't this a surprise!"
Meanwhile, inside the house, Alice looked up from the book she had been reading. "Hm?" She was wondering when Marisa and Michael were going to return from their recon mission; she hadn't done much besides fiddle around with doll designs during her downtime and talk to some of the ponies; she was actually becoming quite fond of Soarin'.
