Zero looked unimpressed.
"If it's not asking too much of your simple mind, stop and think about that bear for a moment. That was one of the two men that have been terrorizing you and that Captain fellow of yours for some time. In a bear just randomly in the middle of nowhere. With electronics. And the damn thing wasn't even connected to a network."
Zero pointed at the pocket Jayne had the communicator in as he took a step forward, "Now that thing? It's connected to a network. Presumably that originated in the universe you're from. In the universe all evidence points to those fools being from. So I'm going to tell you again, I want it destroyed."
"I told you. Malcolm has been kidnapped by those men, Simon may very well be dead, and that girl and boy are practically losing it. And apparently so has someone named Kaylee? Can't say I've met her, but I doubt that's anything advantageous," Zero smirked and shrugged, "And if I'm understanding you silly little humans right, isn't this all your fault? I do have to say, if you honestly don't care I could admire you. But we both know that isn't the case."

Jayne looked down at the device in his hand. He seemed to be running figures in his head, deciding mostly on whether or not he could actually trust the sentient virus before him. He seemed rather torn, until finally, he grabbed the communicator with his right hand, applying enough pressure to crush it before dropping it. He grunted before turning to face the virus.
"Look, whatever the cap'n's gone and gotten himself into, it ain't my fault. Yeah, I sold out the ruttin' crew, yeah, I might feel a bit bad about that. But he'd'a done the same if he was in my position. I was just usin' my head, thinkin' all business-like." Jayne said, frowning. He wasn't sure if he was trying to convince Zero or himself.
"But ya got my attention. Seein' as you don't give two licks about the crew, I'm guessin' this is about those 'hands of blue' moonbrain's always goin' on about."

Zero paused for a moment when Jayne took out the communicator and crushed it. He blinked, and the expression on his face was actually one of surprise. It lasted only a moment before the virus gave a shrug. He looked bored with Jayne as he gave his explanation. The smile he gave as Jayne made his final conclusion was pretty typical for the man. Creepy, although smug as well.
"Perhaps your intelligence is more than that of a retarded Slowpoke after all," Zero stated, "Because the only reason I've pursued this has nothing to do with the fate of your crew. Honestly, I don't care how you feel abou them. When this is all done and over with, you can shoot them all in the head for all I care."
Zero lifted a finger, "But you got a point right. Those fools are up to something that involves both myself and that crew of yours. And as it stands, your involvement in it may very well be what I need to get those fools to see what they're messing with. They seem to need not just me for their precious little plans, but the good captain as well. Can't say I've figured out their need for that Kaylee girl, but it's possible she's just a hostage."
"Now before you go spouting off that you don't need anyone again, there's something in all this for you as well. Whether the doctor is alive or dead isn't important to the fact that there was a part those fools sent me and him to retrieve. And for all their showboating, I was able to tell there is something about that worth note. So if you want access back to your own dimension within your lifetime, it might be worth your time to go beg for their forgiveness."

Jayne showed no visible unrest at Zero's insult. He'd grown used to the virus being rather... well, rude. So his only response was a slight grunt. Until Zero made his case about the part he and Simon had been sent to grab.
"Somethin's wrong. Alliance already got a portal set up, and last I checked it was doin' fine. Stable enough to toss the entire ruttin' crew here, at least. Goin' back the way we came shouldn't be too much of a problem for 'em. Gotta have some kinda remote to activate it from here, else what's the point of sending in those two? It's a con. Ruttin' bad one, too. Guessin' the Alliance ain't too fond of these 'hands of blue' either, else they'd be long gone by now. Instead of still on the Island." Jayne said, absent-mindedly cocking Vera. He made no mention of how he came to his Batman conclusion that they were still on the island, but he assumed it was obvious enough.
