Physical Description
Karkat is a short, while still skinny, “teenage” troll. As a troll, he’s largely humanoid, though his grey skin and candy corn-like horns easily mark him as being a different species. His horns are different from most of the rest of his species in that they’re rounded at the ends instead of being pointed. His teeth are pointed and at slightly uneven lengths for each. His coarse black hair is short but messy, to the point that it has a perpetual “just got out of the recuperacoon” look to it. Like most trolls, he doesn’t give a shit about fashion, and tends to wear his black longsleeved shirt, grey pants, and black shoes. The shirt has a grey Cancer (♋) symbol on the front.
Weapons
He uses the sickleKind Strife Specibus in battle, though he doesn’t own a large degree of weapons for it.
Abilities/Powers
As the Knight of Blood, Karkat’s powers are rather mundane. He has been granted with the insight to allow him to lead his people on, regardless of the hemospectrum (tl;dr: it lets him be troll jesus and makes other trolls more likely to listen to him). He also decides the blood color of the session he creates.
Skills
As noted in his abilities, he’s a natural leader in that he can get a large group to cooperate toward a common goal, though not so much that he can make them not completely ignore his orders. He also likes to think he’s a good hacker, but he’s actually pretty shitty.
Personality
Karkat is a crab in more ways than one. He constantly insults others in the style of a stereotypical internet troll, supporting his arguments with what seems to be empty logic. In keeping with the crabapple asshole theme of his personality, he rarely smiles. He is also often seen screaming, pounding his fists against his keyboard, or generally raging when talking to the other trolls. He is not particularly patient as when explaining himself, he makes even his most sound advice appear to be random insults and he becomes visibly aggravated when other people are having fun.
Somewhat similar to Jack Noir, Karkat is ruthlessly ambitious and will grasp at any opportunity for power, but he just doesn't have the subtlety of his troll compatriots and ends with the sharp end of the stick more than once. His real strength is to shepherd his boneheaded troll friends into following a plan, which just gives him another excuse to go off the handle when something does not go according to it.
Despite his flippant demeanor, he also seems to care quite deeply for his friends' well being, judging from his tearful reaction to Sollux's apparent death, his seemingly genuine desire to help Eridan and Tavros with their relationship issues with Feferi and Vriska, respectively, and his willing enough to revive Kanaya. Towards the end, Karkat seems to show a softer side that hasn't really been shown before. In his final memo, future Karkat leaves a rather emotional story shortly before Kanaya responds to it. At this point he treats her in a friendly and polite manner, something that he really hasn't done with anyone before.
Unlike other trolls, Karkat doesn't "wear his blood color on his sleeve," in either the figurative OR literal sense, and is very defensive when asked about it. This is due to his blood being a rare mutant “candy red” color that could very possibly put him in danger.
Karkat uses rich and imaginative language in his particular fashion (e.g. "YOU ARE SUCH AN IGNORAMUS I COULD SHIT MILES OF RAGE SNAKE TO CHOKE YOU TO DEATH), but not to the extent of a typing quirk.
Karkat is not nearly as bloodthirsty as some of the other trolls (like Vriska or even Kanaya), and has trouble jumping to action when shit hits the whirling device. If things go off plan and he's not nearby, he gets pissed off and starts yelling at the related parties. If he -is- nearby he faints, starts crying or sits there looking stupid.
History
Karkat grew up on Alternia with his lusus before his session began. On his 6th Wriggling Day, he was assigned to lead the Red Team in their SGrub session. Due to running a virus Sollux sent him, he accidentally cursed himself and everyone he met, resulting in the deaths of everyone’s lususes. After entering the Incipisphere, he found himself in the Land of Pulse and Haze. Over the course of the game, he runs into and forms an alliance with Jack Noir to exile the Black Queen. He also helps Kanaya breed their Genesis Frog, but due to wanting to rush to fight the Black King, he skips the last frog in their sequence and screws up the genetic sequence, causing a defect in the universe their session created.
After the end of their session, just as the trolls prepared to accept their prize, Jack Noir appeared. Due to Aradia, they were able to escape to a lab in the Veil. From there, Karkat began to observe the new universe the trolls had created. He watches John’s life unfold and becomes angry at him, at the same time creating Kismesis feelings toward John. He attempts to troll John, but eventually becomes friends with him and shares important information about the nature of SBurb with him. He also contacts Jade and develops some plans with her, while she pulls some rather annoying password bullshit.
Eventually things start going to shit as Eridan loses it and proceeds to kill Feferi and Kanaya, and blind Sollux. Soon after that, Karkat discovers that Gamzee has run out of sopor, gone sober, and as a result, completely murderous. He takes Sollux’s unconscious body with him and tries to hide, only to become separated from him later. Eventually he meets back up with Sollux, Terezi, and a revived Kanaya, in time to confront Gamzee. He manages to calm Gamzee down and become his moirail, thus ending the murderous rampage. From there he and the others waited for the Scratch to begin.
Just after the Scratch begins in the kids’ universe, Karkat is trolled by Nepeta and told he will see her soon, even though she’s already dead. Confused, he tries to converse with her more, but isn’t able to get a straight answer out of her before she signs off again.
Other
Personality is almost directly lifted from the wikia, while History is an abridged version of the wikia’s version because I didn’t feel like rereading all of Hivebent so I could get his history right.
