The title is dirt poor, yes. But it's not supposed to be a big, glamorous thing- It's there to get my (possibly doomed to fail) idea across. It's here to tell you about what these aliens are capable of, all of which easily capable of being identified by observing physical characteristics.
Power Core: Their main sorce of energy- where it is relative it its owner determines what it's used for.
Dark Coloration: The more physically able of the species. Whether they're attacking or defending, they usually succumb to distance as opposed to force. They're incapable of using powerful magic abilities, preffering to just smash and bash. Their Cores are usually stuck to their body as a form of bracelet or necklace, but can be removed to power a weapon (this is considered extreme, and masochistic).
Light Coloration: The more mystically able of the species. All of their skills revolve around some form of magical skill, whether it's an attack or a simple distraction for the sake of defense. Their physical powers are comprable to paper cups. Their Cores are detached from their bodies at birth, often being held or attached to a wand as an amplifier.
Reds: Offensive forces. Usually have powerful physical strength or magical abilities capable of series damage, at least when they're larger.
Yellows: Fast and dodgey. Able to run in and strike first indefinately. Light varieties are capable of weak illusions to throw off foes.
Blues: Defensive forces. They can take more than a few hits, hinting at their sturdy physique. Lights are more reliant on making force fields than absorbing blows.
Three more colors- orange, green, and purple- exist, but their powers aren't unique. They have hybrid powers, and often sport more than one power core. For one of their cores to be removed is not an unwelcome thing- they're actually expected to remove them if they want seperate focus for battle.
Update: The effects of the cores
At first glance, the cores seem important for their life to go on- it seems like their heart, not a treasure they're simply born with. Lights are born without their cores attached to their body, or at least, loosely attached, similarly to an umbilical chord.
This begs the question, why do darks view removing their cores, the ones they were born with in their bodies, as taboo? Why does it seem like a dark taking their core (or cores, for secondary colors) out of their body is a bad thing? This is actually a bit extreme- unlike the magically focused light cores, a dark core is physically focused, boosting their abilities.
That's not to say their abilities are lost with their core- they still have some of their original strength, but only half of it. Some choose to remove their cores to put them inside of weaponry, making the weapon more effective. But since their physical abilities are compromised, this is viewed as extreme unless it's done by a dual core Gluttonos.
Take a purple, for example- good in offense and defense, but not the best. If one were to remove its red core, their strength would wein, and their defensive properties would become more dominant. Likewise, removing a blue core would soften their skin, and tighten their muscles. This won't change their color- their coloration is permanent. That won't ever change.
Seeing this, one of the Engineers for the race- an expiremental scientist, in a way, making weaponry and robotics- decided to study dark cores, and soon came up with a weapon that gives core relinquishers an advantage. This technology takes the usually power strengthening dark cores and turns them into energy generators to power energy based weapons, like blasters or lightning blades.
The name of this engineer was Exon.
And that's... more or less it. any questions?
