Full Name: Rayman
Nickname(s): Ray, Hero of the Glades, Ayman-Ray (By the Nymphs and the other inhabitants of the Glade of Dreams), Rrraymman (By Bubble Dreamer).
Age: Unsure. If you count by years, Rayman is only about 4 years old. Physically, he’s about 19, and mentally he’s 16.
Height: 4 foot 8
Weight: Very light actually
Gender: Male
Race: There’s really no name for what Rayman is, so the Nymphs have taken to calling him simply ‘Rayman’ at leisure, and a ‘Thing-a-Ma-Jig’ as a descriptive measure.
Alliance: Protagonist
Home: The Glade of Dreams (He can be normally found at the ‘Snoring Tree’ with the Bubble Dreamer, Globox and his two Teensie pals.)
Franchise: Rayman (Specifically, this version of comes from the Rayman Origins timeline, which is basically a timeline that reboots the series after the happenings of Rayman 2; the Great Escape.)
Physical Description
Rayman looks very much like the typical teenager… If you count a limbless thing-a-ma-jig as a teenager. Rayman’s body is segmented into 6 separate parts (Some of which can move on their own), which consists of a torso dressed in a purple hoodie with a white ‘O’ around the chest, two feet which are dressed in sneakers, two hands which are covered by gloves, and a head with a big snout like nose and blondish chestnut colored hair which can spin around like helicopter blades if needed to let Rayman hover great distances.
Weapons
None, Rayman fights with his fists and his feet, which he can launch at his enemies at distances up to 9 feet before they have to return to his body. Heck, his hands can even be separated from his body entirely and can even act under their own will.
Abilities/Powers
As of Origins, Rayman has a number of abilities that are typical of characters from Platformer games. Among these is the ability to run up walls, wall jump and using his hair as Helicopter blades to slow down a fall. An ability he has that isn’t typical of his kind of hero is the ability to shrink and grow at leisure when presented with an obstacle that would be better conquered with the ability, such as tight spaces. Due to limitations, Rayman cannot grow any bigger than his own original height.
Skills
Being a platforming hero, he’s very good at running and jumping, and is skilled at mild acrobatics. He’s also a very effective street brawler for someone who is self taught.
Personality
Putting it simply, ‘Origins!Rayman’ is something of a Goofball. Usually very chill and laid-back, he usually only mixes it up in a fight unless otherwise provoked, whether it be by some of his enemies or to participate in a friendly, if not spirited, duel with his pals. He has a bit of a mischievous streak about him that is notable in many of his appearances, most notably in Origins. In many ways, Rayman acts as he appears; a teenage thing-a-ma-jig with a taste for food, a love of resting, and an eye for women (an interest he’s shown once by using his helicopter blade hair to blow up Betilla’s skirt and get a peek). All of this however, is the typical personality of a teenager, so as such, it is safe to say Rayman acts his age.
History
It was many years ago on a Frabjus Day when the Bubble Dreamer created the Glen of Dreams and everything in it, including it’s inhabitants from the Teensies, to the lums, to the Glutes (Globox’s race), and the many many many others. However that’s too far back, let’s fast forward to some time after that. One day during all of the normal hullaballoo of the usual day-time activities in the Glade of Dreams, the bubble dreamer suddenly awoke in a cold sweat, having had his very first nightmare. Quickly calling the Nymphs, he gave them an order to start collecting lums to create an entirely new being, one that the Bubble Dreamer could use as a guardian of his realm and capable of saving his world, and crack him up with it’s silly and heroic actions.
However, during the collection process, the Nymphs became distracted by a group of zombie chickens on their way to the sacred snoring grounds where the Bubble Dreamer created the world and, due to this, they lost a sack full of lums. In their efforts to re-capture the run-away lums however, the crazy creatures lost the Nymphs over the cliff, thus arriving late, and with a lot less illumination from the moon above. Using the Moon beams and the lums, Betilla and the nymphs created Rayman, though with fewer limbs then anticipated. However, Rayman made due and seemed to be a lot happier for it. Perhaps due to the missing lums however, Rayman was also born bald, something that immediately drove away the Nymphs. However, out of pity, Betilla created another like Rayman and sent him and his new mate on their way to live out the rest of their days in peace…
However, during these peaceful days, when the two decided to stop in a forest to take a quick nap, Rayman awoke to the screams of his girlfriend (Now ex) to find that odd looking dream creatures reminiscent of strands of hair had found his bald head and decided to lay down their roots in it. Rayman’s girlfriend did not take this well, being designed to love Rayman as he originally was and started chasing Rayman with a pair of hair-dressing scissors, while Rayman ran away too panicked to even wonder what was going on. To finally avoid his girlfriend and her scissors, he leaped off of a cliff, misjudging how high it was and started falling to his doom… However, in that moment, the hair creatures, working together, gave Rayman a lift by twirling themselves around like helicopter blades, giving him the ability to hover. Using it, he escaped the caverns where he and his girlfriend lived and landed outside in the sea of lums.
When he awoke some time later, he found himself back in the Glade of Dreams where things had NOT turned out for the better. Incapable of creating another hero, Betilla and the Nymphs were captured by Mr. Dark, a powerful being capable of controlling Darktoons and great magical feats. Remembering the Nymphs and how cool the glade was, Rayman sought out to find the Nymphs and the Electoons, and save the world just as he was always destined to.
(Everything that happens next follows through with the events of Rayman and Rayman 2 the Great Escape.)
Sometime later after the defeat of Admiral Razorbeard, Rayman decided to sit back and relax a little while, joined by his best buddy and blood brother Globox (Whom he had met between the events of Rayman 1 and Rayman 2 the Great Escape), King Teensie, Goth Teensie and even Polokus the Bubble Dreamer himself, coming out of hiding once more to play around with his own creations. However as the bunch sat down to lounge about and take a much needed nap, their snoring accidentally creates a musical melody which, somehow reaches all the way down to the core of the Glade of Dreams and disturbs an old skeletal granny living in the ‘Land of the Livid Dead’. At first the Granny screeches at them to stop, but, due to continued ruckus she resorts to sending an army of monsters and Dark Toons up to the surface to silence them. Rayman and the others are caught and the Bubble Dreamer once again finds himself in a deep fit of restless sleep, where he continually dreams up nightmares, threatening to tear the Glade of Dreams asunder.
Rayman and the others quickly escape and go on their quest, assisted by the Magician (Whom had somehow became a teensy since Rayman had last seen him), and the Nymphs as the group rescued them one by one… However, after freeing the four Dream Kings of the Glades and opening the way to the TRUE evil polluting the land, the group of four discovered that it was the Magician’s doing all along! On top of being a Mr. Dark Follower the entire time, the Magician is enraged that he was turned from a ‘Thing-a-ma-jig’ into a teensy, losing his head of golden yellow hair in the process. Enraged, he decided to take it out on the Bubble Dreamer by planting a Microphone-flower in the Snoring tree to amplify the sound and send the signal into the Land of the Livid Dead; AND while Rayman and the group were fighting them off, they’d hand the magician the lums they’ve collected, under the understanding the Magician would use them to aid them in their cause. Instead however, the Magician used the lums to create a GIANT FLOATING STEAMPUNK CITY hidden in the clouds above the Glade of Dreams.
Though the Magician tries to dispose of Rayman and his friends, this ultimately fails, and the Magician makes a run for it (But not before doing a quick disco jig to distract Rayman and his pals long enough to do it). One long chase scene later and Rayman and the gang caused the Magician to accidentally crash into the giant lum powered core in the center of the city, making the entire place EXPLODE. Thankfully Rayman and his friends were spared and landed RIGHT back into the Snoring Tree, allowing them to resume their lounging from PRECISELY where they left off.
There was also an incident regarding enchanted paintings, a tent in the middle of the woods, dragons and a CRAZY (and let’s not forget beautiful) Viking girl named Barbara... BUUUUT that’s another story.
Other
After his adventure in the lands of the ancient myth, Rayman, Globox, his teensie pals and even Barbara was out and about, enjoying another round of rough-housing, racing and Soccer. However, a swift magical pulse from King Teensie sent the ball flying a distance away, to which Rayman quickly ran off to collect…. Only to find himself sucked in through a portal into this brand new world….
