Hello, and welcome to a world of deities. Now before you leave, listen: this world is actually very similar to our own. This is a world, filled with objects called Slates.
You like TV or videogames, right? Well, in this world, they're made from miniature, pure white planets, the slates. Like, say for example, you like Mario, right? or Homestuck, Pokemon, Megaman, Halo- you name it. All of these started as a blank slate.
Okay, okay, I see the confusion on your face. 'what's this blank slate?' you ask? Well, going deeper than a pure white planet, the blank slates are actually what plenty of the deities of this world use to make entertainment for others- fan crafters, corporate crafters, crafters for entertainment and cartoons- if it's something that exists in our world, it's in their world as a full slate.
Everything that lives on these blank slates are just stick figures, or bases- grey, wiggly lines that speak to eachother of something known as "the prophecy," that color would come and their world would change, giving their lives a type of meaning. There are even slates for public use- slates called "Role Player's slates," where many deities come and craft worlds as they see fit.
One of the members of a role player slate called "Dimensional Clash"- a fan fiction type of slate- has recently come across a new blank slate- but he doesn't want to use it for himself, oh no.
He wants he and his friends to get together and fill this slate.
-----
Welp. There's my announcement prologue thingy. it's kind of a big "make it up as you go along" roleplay- how many of you guys are interested in this?
Furthermore, if you have any questions on how we do this, please ask, because I kinda don't want this to be like DC in execution- no canon characters, I mean.

Are there any limits of what we can do with our 'chosen one'?

Chosen Ones, actually- And really, no. the only real limit is that it needs to be an OC- freshly made or in reserve- and that they're trudging through this slowly evolving world.
The actual creation process is done through a small hut that can channel "Creativity"- the powers of these deities- to warp a Base Person- the initial residents- into an "Avatar", a being that holds most of the power in the world. You want a girl? make a girl. A swordsman that has a strong sense of justice? Why not?
Just remember- they'll still be interacting with their old friends, even as they become "non-avatar characters" (or NACs) through the effects of a deity using their powers on bases without a channeler's hut.
Also remember- don't make a character that's over powered. it's not an adventure without weak characters slowly becoming strong characters. Also, there's more than just characters made with bases... I'll describe "Bosses" in a different A.

Explain how towns work, if you would?
Also, bosses? Can you clarify?

Excellent questions, Doc! Firstly, about towns.
Like the inhabitants of the blank Slates, towns actually come pre-made. The only problem is that every town looks about the same until altered by the deities crafting the world. However, this isn't something a single deity should do without any input from the others.
The towns can be morphed into practically anything- large bustling cities, dinky little towns, an estate for mansions- you name it. Since the deities have full control of the planet and its inhabitants, including the landscapes as well as what exactly in in the oceans, the forests, and even the location of caves, they need to discuss among themselves exactly what something needs to be before anyone tries to make it themselves.
As for Bosses:
Unlike the NACs and Avatars, Bosses must be made from outside the realm of the blank slate- they need to be crafted, shown to the others, then inserted into the world as a meteor, as a way to set off the "Prophecy" spoken by the Bases. They are often evil beings- but bosses are powerful, and depending on the context and their deity, they could go either way.
More traditional villains can be made through an "Avatar Hut" just like normal avatars. minions and underlings can be made from the debris of a boss, or as NACs near your "villain."

oh, and just as a thing to mention- there's also things called Events.
Think like minigames, or weird episodes of a TV show.

What type of events are to be expected?

Well, to be blunt, Events are only limited by the people who come up with them- but these events are almost always done by "Bosses" (characters made from outside of a base). Say for example, you want a Boxing event- you make a boxing ring with a jovial boxer in it, and have the avatars show'em who's boss.
These events can be pretty much anything- for example...
Boxing Luck Based Fishing Helping someone with chores A game of sports
And so on- only limited by the imagination.

Okay now, here's my question, how would character based storylines work exactly? World building is great but the world is only part of the story I think. Is it basically just business as normal or what exactly?

Ooooooh, I've been waiting for this one! In fact, I'm hugging you in the cBox for that question! Because THIS is where the plot comes from!
First of all, this is still a roleplay and all of our characters (as base people) are going to be near the Avatar Hut when it falls; so all of the avatars are going to be starting off in the same location. They go in, they get altered, then the first boss rains down and they go off to confront it, followed by the next boss raining and so on and so forth. See, all of this is based around a prophecy spoken by the Base People- a prophecy involving their world going from being dull and white, to becoming a much bigger expanse than ever expected.
Putting it simply, the whole story revolves around a slowly altering world, and the once base people exploring it and all the crazy things going on. The bases never HAD technical Lives- they just laze about, discuss the profecy then wander on. They never had to eat, they never needed to explore- their oceans, their landscapes, all just off and baren.
And so were their personalities- as soon as an avatar comes out of the hut, the first thing that should be asked is "How do you feel?" This is what pins them as a character- before long, decisions made, foreign lands met, villains defeated and events played- they slowly begin to grow into the role they were given.
Imagine for a second- how do you think the third Mario and Second Luigi felt? "Jumpy and ready for adventure!" is probably what they said- then blocks floated down and goombas were made. Eventually their templates were used for other things- Luigi was taken as a template, then slightly tweaked for what eventually became Luigi's mansion- being cowardly, meek, and eventually this template was used in other blank slates featuring Luigi.
This whole adventure is taking place as the slate is being crafted- not afterward. We don't know how the world is going to be once we're done- or how the bad guys will try to take the world over, or conquer this proverbial canvas! We're starting with blank slates- and slowly characterizing them as the adventure goes on, our little rag-tag group of misfits.

So it's basically like Minecraft only the player and the Avatar are separate characters and you're both going to explore the newly spawned world together.

Except the world is still in development- but yes. That's pretty much how it is. add in a bit more plot and more expressive characters and you've got Blank Slate in a nutshell.

Just a re-cap. The deities- us in the world of Blank Slate- are the ones crafting this world of blank and white. adding landscapes, messing with cities, so on.
We can add events and put down bosses and make NACs and Avatar characters to inhabit the world, but we're not allowed to just up and destroy the base people or NACs, Avatars, or events and "Bosses." (for those unaware- a Boss is something made outside the slate and sent in. Events are Bosses with rules- like a contest or competition.)
Avatars are tasked with exploring the slowly changing world the deities have made and are making. Slaying monsters, interacting with others, and so on.
NACs are typically there to talk with. They can pick fights, or fight themselves, but they don't have the same emphasis as the Avatars. (actually there's a nice example of this- in Epic Mickey 2, Mickey and Oswald explore part of the crumbling Castle Oswald, while Ortensia is on her own- she eventually shows up later, saying "You're not the only one who goes out on adventures!") The NACs can have big impacts on the plot, but don't neccessarily run in and just steal the show.
That said, an Avatar that's not part of a group can still happen. Main villains can be a form of avater- they can describe how they do something to the heroes, for example- or if there's someone that you just think is an NAC that comes by and eventually sticks with you- that's another kind of avatar.
That said: Deities make the world and people living there (as well as other events and cities), Avatars get most of the focus, and Non-Avatar Characters are there to look pretty and give out things like quests and help out with some events. any questions?
