Evan blinked in surprise at the next line of text. He had anticipated a shocked reaction, he had anticipated anger, but he hadn't expected Alex to just hang up on him.
PK: Hello?? o.o;
PK: Alex? Don't know when/if you'll see this, but are you alright, man?
PK: If it's about the whole death thing, I'm fine with it! Honest!
PK: I've come close to it plenty of times before! And if it's for a good cause and to protect those I care about, I will give everything I can! I genuinely mean that!
He waited for a moment. Then he sighed and gave up.
PK: Okay. Guess I'll meet up with you later. Nice talking to you.
With that, Evan put his phone away, flopped down on the stared at the ceiling, briefly turning his head in Swift's direction to assure her that everything was fine. And although he was optimistic, genuinely wanting to believe that, he had a feeling deep down that things weren't going to be that easy.
This was going to be a long trip...
