The man just continued running, guiding the twins towards the edge of the woods. They needed to hurry, they needed to escape. It would not have taken long for that monster to realize that her dinner had gotten away. "LATER!! JUST KEEP MOVING!!!" A spurt of web shot ahead of him and blocked a space between the trees, stopping the retreat. [Thriller stops playing.] The three hear footsteps as something steps closer. The Spider Queen grinned at her quarry, noting the man in red. "So this is where you went... Ooooh, naughty naughty. You know, I don't think ANY of us appreciated that." As she said this spiders by the thousands started converging on the spot. "I think that's VERY Rude~. Do you even REALIZE how HUNGRY we are~ "As several spiders started playing music via the webs and treetrunks, the queen danced closer quickly, throwing out a kick. The man was quick to block the attack and several kicks after it, before finally catching one of the legs and tossing the queen back. "We have to get out of here!! Look for a way out while I hold her off!!" The spiders all bounced up and down in rhythm to the song, all inspired by the queen's love of music as she landed on her feet and started spurting out webs in rhythm to the song. The man was barely dodging them. |

There was no need to say that again.
The twins looked around frantically for a clearing in the webs, a path to safety, ANYTHING...
"C'mon bro! We can do this!"
"B-But..." Kam had to shake a number of spiders off his leg. "Where?! We're surrounded on all sides!!"
"If anyone can find a way out, it's us! Now hurry up! I don't know how long that guy can hold them off... And we don't know if that wolf will appear again!"

Philly Phil hollowed indignantly, bound in the silken prison, trying desperately to claw his way out...

Kam grabbed what he assumed to be Kim's arm and pointed towards what appeared to be a ray of moonlight. "Look! There's a clearing!"
"I don't know..." Kim shook her head, causing the bandages to ruffle slightly. "That clearing looks pretty narrow."
"It's either that or get eaten by a bunch of spiders." He motioned to the army of arachnids around them.
"Narrow clearing it is!"
They nodded at each other, gave a small smile, and made a mad dash for the clearing.

The man got hammered by another kick, getting him sent flying backwards and slamming into a tree. Still, when he saw the children lead the way to a clearing nearby, he quickly got up and chased after them, the Spider Queen nipping at his heels. "HEY!!! Quit trying to run away!!" The spider queen shouted to her guests as she ran at high speed. She was flanked on either side by a massive spiders that scooted about, eagerly awaiting for their new food. "There's nowhere to run lovelies~!!"
The spiders continued dancing around as the man dodged out of the way of another web spurt, the beast now aiming at the twins. The man quickly grabbed the monsters back legs and tossed her away before the attacks could get worse. "AGH!!! Stop avoiding me!!!"
The Spider queen charged and slammed into the man, only for him to start holding her back. It was... Unbelievable. "GKKKKT!!! Keep looking!! I've!... URGH!! GOT THIS!!." He dodges several fast kicks and catches the last one, knocking it back, ducking one attack then jumping over the next. A foot launched out into a kick with the Spider queen nimbly dodging herself. "Agh!!" Holy crap she was quick!!

"We can't leave him like this!" Kam yelled, turning back around, only to be caught by his sister's invisible hand turning him back the way they came.
"He said to run! We need to get outta here!" Kim shouted back, dragging her masked brother behind her, ignoring his protests about leaving their saviour behind.

The ensnared werewolf snapped his jaws down, finding that he could indeed bite his way through the silken webs that bound him.

Kim continued dragging her protesting brother through the clearing, the moonlight becoming brighter and brighter as they ran.
At last they arrived at a treeless area, free from any branches or spooky creature.
"Hah... you're heavy, bro..." Kim panted out as she finally was able to start running, clothes slightly ragged and bandages askew.
"Hey, watch it, if I'm heavy so are you." Kam retorted.
"Hey, look on the bright side..." she said in-between breaths. "At least we're finally in the clear. C'mon, there's gotta be a city or something nearby! Let's go, while we're still free!"
Kim nodded at her brother, who followed right behind her as she ran.

Free? That's what y'all think...
Li'l D watched from a tree in the clearing as the twins ran towards where they thought the city was. He thought they looked familiar, but he paid it no mind.

Back in the forest, the man was hard at work fighting off spiders of all kinds and taking a beating from the spider queen whom was revealed to be VERY light on her feet. "HAH!!!" She kicks the man away causing him to get sent upward with a spin. He lands on his hands and back handsprings back onto his feet. "Oooooh~! Really agile are you? How quaint! We both have something in common!" The Spider Queen starts zipping from tree to tree, revealing a thick webbing all throughout the area that she could use to jump into the foliage and snipe at the man with webbing.
"Ugh!!!" He starts running as the woman started firing off webbing at fast speeds. The spiders continued dancing to and fro, cheering their queen on as she jumped from tree to tree to get better angles. At one point, she hung upside down from one web directly in front of the man's running path, forcing him to stop and narrowly roll to his left to avoid being webbed. "Dammit she's too fast!!!"
"Of course lovely~! You're in MY element after all~!!!" The spider Queen hopped down and finally nailed the man in the gut with another kick. With a loud grunt, he flinched back and threw another punch. The girl grinned and caught it, before starting to spray the man with webs. "Now stop moving, this will be all over soon~."
No!! NO!!!...
.... He... He didn't want to do this but-....
There is a flash of light from the webbing cocoon that the Spider Queen was trying to seal him in. "Wh-WHAT THE-?!?!?" When the webbing burst-.... !!!!!!!!!
THE MAN WAS REPLACED BY A MASSIVE SKELETON IN GOLDEN ARMOR GLARING AT HER.
"RRRRRRRRRRRR-!!!!!!!!!!!!! RAAAAAAGH!!!!" He was obviously gathering energy. "RRAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH-!!!!!!"
"WH-WHAT ARE YOU DOING-?!?!?!?!"
"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" His arms went to his side as he roared to the heavens.

From a bird's eye view, all in the woods seemed to be right...
BEFORE A MASSIVE FIERY EXPLOSION RIPPED THROUGH IT TAKING MOST OF THE TREES WITH IT.

"Not now- get out of our way dude!" Kim exclaimed, before shoving the mysterious fiddler out of their way, making the man drop his fiddle in the process. Her brother was right behind her as the odd duo ran as fast as they could, trying to escape the nightmare...
"Are you sure this isn't just a really realistic nightmare?!"
"I think we'd be aware of it!"
The twins took a moment to glance at the fourth wall with matching unapproving faces, still running, until they were finally able to catch their breath in a field of grass outside the woods...
...
"Kim...?" Kam panted out.
"Yes, Kam?" came Kim's voice to Kam's right.
"Is it me... or does it seem a little TOO quiet?
A sudden, constant twacking noise came from above them, causing the shocked pair to look up and see...
"Li'l D?!" they managed to blurt out at the sight of their self-proclaimed leader in a high tree, hitting the branch next to him with a stick.
Darkness falls across the land
The midnight hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize y'all's neighbourhood
"Yeah, it's me, Count Li'l D."
"Count Li'l-"
Before Kam could complete that statement, the dredges of an explosion knocked all three of them off their feet, and in the case of the vampire, down to the ground.

There was a dreadful sound of pain from the wolfman's throat as he was caught in the blast, leaving burns and the smell of singed fur behind.
... Oh yeah, forgot to mention the newly-found RAGE.
Phil let out another howl, this one born of anger, and followed the scent of the delicious spider demon, saliva dripping and yellowish teeth bared.
And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for getting down
Must stand and face the hounds of hell
And rot inside a corpse's shell

The viola player hissed loudly before falling to backward due to the blast. The male scrabbled for his instrument after getting up top his feet.
"Find your own prey, leech!" he called to the newly self-appointed count. Fangs were bared as he started to play to the beat of the whispered song.

The fire continued raging in the woods, eating up so much red-wood and oak that the smell could be notable for miles. In the midst of the flames, the man that saved the Twins, the revealed to be Undead Warrior Enn, growled as he walked forward, taking in the destruction he had wrought... After a moment, he found a downed tree that several spiders were trying to lift. Scaring them off as he approached, Enn bent down to pick up the tree...
WHICH HE DID WITH STARTLING EASE AND TOSSED IT ASIDE.
Under where the tree once was, the spider queen Shantae was revealed to be out cold, mildly burnt from the attack...
........................
The great zombie reached down for her, several spiders were panicked and went to hide, likely in fear that their leader would soon be slain...
The moment, however, never came.
Instead, the skeleton morphed back to his human form and checked the woman's pulse. "... Good... Still alive... Just knocked out..." He looked down to the Spider Queen. ".... I'm sorry, I didn't want to do that. I know you're not really... Yourself right now..." .... He cast a bit of magic, causing a magic circle to appear around the Spider Queen. "There... At least now you'll sleep until this fog goes away. And once it does, you'll be back to normal once more." With a sigh, he looked around to the wildfires he had started... With a magical wave of his hand, the fires dispersed.
"... Rest easy for now... Hopefully this nightmare will end soon." He takes notice of the spiders... "Look after her and make sure she'll be okay. She could be sleeping for a little while."
And with that he left the woods behind him.
"Now... To find those kids I helped... The wolf one seems to be gone... Hopefully the twins are okay..."

"Oh, look who talkin'" 'Count' Li'l D retaliated as he picked up the stick that he had been using as a makeshift drumstick. "You the leech here! This is MY territory, ya hear that?!"
With that, he resumed hitting the tree, matching the beat of a familiar song...
The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years

"I think we're clear now..." came Kim's voice, a glove rubbing the ride of a mass of head bandages.
"What?"
"I said, I think we're clear now. Look, there's some lights, that could be a city!" Kim exclaimed.
"... What?"
"I SAID, I THINK WE'RE SAFE, CITY'S PROBABLY THERE!"
"Oh! Why didn't you speak up?"
Kim contemplated punching her brother in the face for that. However, she considered that maybe being that close to a blast is bound to cause some hearing problems. She compromised by elbowing him in the ribs.
And grizzly ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom

The wolfman tracked the spider demon's delicious scent, ending up finding her unconscious form on the forest floor, surrounded by many of her subjects. He licked his lips and walked over to the fallen queen, intending to start with a tender, juicy leg...
No! I won't do this!
He snapped his head back before his jaws could make contact with one of the delicious legs, an odd, weirdly human sound escaping his mouth.
I won't do this... I will eat her...
Phil brought a paw to his snout and lay down as if fighting something mentally...

Elsewhere, in the clearing, Li'l D briefly stopped his drumming, also bringing a palm to his face, leaning against the tree. His skin tone seemed to be less greyish...

Kim and Kam paused for a moment, feeling light-headed all of a sudden. Bits of Kim's skin became visible, and the appearance of a burn on Kam's face seemed to fade away...
And though you fight to stay alive
Your body starts to shiver

The wolf ran away from Shantae's body, as far as he could. He ran into a short figure wearing a cape, that smelled confusingly of life and death.
For a brief moment, Li'l D and Philly Phil looked at each other, realizing what had just happened to them.

"Kim?"
"Kam?"
"... I suddenly feel- OW!"
"Better?" Kim replied, as her body returned to being invisible, glad he could not read her face in response to his injury becoming real again.
--
They were themselves for a brief moment before Count Dracula stared at the Wolfman.
"... Get him." Count Li'l D stated simply, skin tone back to a deathly pallor of what it used to be and smelling of death again. He extended a hand out at the other vampire, pointing.
Phil gave a brief nod as if to acknowledge his command and reared back, letting out a howl of battle before throwing himself forward.

The vampire sighed. "I was here first, Little fledgling," the male warned as he dismissed the charred viola and scythe bow. "Looks like I get another round of fighting."
A crystalline viola soon replaced the charred one. He smirked as a crystal wand appeared in his other hand. He jabbed said wand at the wolf man.

"Ah! Here you are!"
The twins looked up to find the man from before rushing up to them, red armor just as apparent as he looks back at the chaos currently ongoing somewhere behind him. It looked like the Vampire and the... Whatever that was had started fighting each other... hopefully the spiders would keep that cursed Spider Queen safe... He quickly helps the twins back to their feet. "Look, I know of a city a small distance away. If we can find shelter in one of the buildings, we can barricade ourselves in until this whole thing blows over!"
