Ah, the underground Hospital. Built within one of the island's various cave systems, several feet below the ruins of the previous medical center. Despite its status as an underground facility, the hospital's staff at least tried to make the place more comfortable for people traversing the grounds; artificial grass, various street lamps that turned on when people walked by, even a few park benches. It was... strange, seeing such a common, above ground scene underground, but it was charming all the same.
What wasn't charming was the fact than an enormous ball of paper was crumpled up under one such bench, the crumpled orb wiggling and bouncing as it attempted to roll out of its prison. Which was strange, since there wasn't any wind for the paper to be rolling to...
What was going on here?

Asgore almost felt a vibe of their old home as he walked through the grounds of the hospital. That said, it was still baffling to him how this underground facility could make things so... much like above ground. IF they'd had thing kind of technology back home...
He shook his head slightly. There wasn't any need for that kind of thought. The Boss Monster continued on down the path, sighing softly. He'd been recovering well, and was able to leave his hospital room for short walks now, which he was taking full advantage of. He hated stifling in his room after all.
...As he walked by the bench with the ball of paper, he tilted his head confusedly. "...Now where did this come from?" After looking around to try and find where it might've come from, Asgore knelt down by the bench, carefully pulling the ball of paper free.

The oddest sensation hit Asgore's hand- the ball of paper seemed to be wriggling in his large paw, what looked to be a pair of black, beady eyes blinking as it kept up its motions.

Asgore was no stranger to unusual sights. ...That said, a ball of paper with eyes that wriggled was startling. With a yelp, the monster dropped the ball, stepping back. "What in the world?!"

The paper ball jumped a little, looking like it desperately wanted to be free of its current shape. The edges of the ball wiggled, the oversized piece of trash looking desperate to unwind.
"um... a little help?"
A very faint, Italian accent was heard coming from the paper ball. It seemed to be calling for... help?

Asgore blinked as he heard the voice, poking the ball of paper... then began to carefully unwrap it from itself. "Goodness... and here I thought I'd already seen the strangest things I was going to see in my life... are you alright, whoever this is?"

Finally opened up, the piece of paper flattened on the ground, every crease being removed from its crumpled body. It was possible Asgore recognized his image- big, bushy mustache, round nose, red hat and shirt- it was pretty clear that this fellow was Mario- if Asgore had ever heard of him, at least. The moment he was flat on the ground, the flat human being righted his standing point, looking around where he had landed as his body kept flapping about.
Finally, he seemed to gain mass, but looked like a walking cartoon character. "Thank you so much for-a freeing me!" he exclaimed, smiling up at Asgore. "Ooohohoo, you are so-a lucky to be one of those round-a fellas, You'll never know how it-a feels to be smashed into a crinkly ball!" He stretched, briefly re-assuming his flat form to contort himself, apparently getting the kinks out.
"...Oh wait! Why am I just-a sitting here?! I gotta hurry!" He looked ready to take off, but imediately tripped, falling flat as a piece of paper. "Ow... Those guys roughed me up worse than I thought..."

Asgore's mouth was open just a bit as the paper unfolded into a person... of a sort, anyway. The king tilted his head again, in confusion. "...Those guys? What in the world are you talking about...?"
He shook his head slightly. "Gah, pardon my rudeness! Are you alright?" While he had heard of Mario since coming to the surface, due to popular video games, the king was quite out of touch with that kind of thing, so he didn't recognize the papery plumber.

"I-I don't think so," he sighed, trying to pick himself back up. "I'ma achey all over... I was attacked by some shadowy men, and they nearly split me in half! They were horrible!" He gasped. "And they're trying to collect the souls of people on the island!"

"..." Asgore shivered a bit as the papery man mentioned shady creatures trying to collect peoples' souls. That hit quite close to home. "G-Goodness... I suppose it's a good thing you wound up at a hospital, then... Though... I'm not sure what exactly they can do for you. What's your name?"

He spun a bit, then gave a jump. "I'mma Mario! But you can call me Paper Mario!" he happily declared. The whole time he spun, small pieces of cardboard flew from his pockets. The moment he noticed this, he began to wildly flail, checking his pockets in a fevered hurry. His hammer was fine, the box holding the Trio Smasher was a-OK (somehow), the few syrup jars and mushrooms he brought with him were fine... so what was...
His eyes went white with fear, the man now checking a different pocket- completely ruined looking blocks of cardboard were crumpled and shredded to bits, stickers on their fronts holding torn up images now the only thing that seemed the most in tact. "M-my trio attacks! Oooooh, That Sanguine is gonna pay-!"
His upper half slanted, his body, formerly showing little signs of harm, now having a very noticeable crease in it. "...Maybe I should try to get healed first," he offered, wobbling his way toward the hospital entrance.

"...Probably a good idea." Asgore still seemed quite confused, but the large Monster followed the papery man into the hospital. He probably needed to return soon himself. The bit of magical medicine that Bayonetta had given him had helped a lot but the doctors still wanted him to be careful.
"If you were attacked, we should probably let others know. There's quite a few folks in this hospital that might be able to lend a hand."

Paper Mario attempted to look at Asgore in spite of his crease. "People? What-a kind of people?" he asked.

"Powerful people." Asgore chuckled. "Humans, not-quite-humans... it's interesting. I didn't expect to see folks like this after leaving home. I'm Asgore, by the way."

Mario attempted to nod, still trapped as a crumply piece of wobbling paper. He doors slid open for them, the nurse at the desk smiling.
"Enjoy your walk, Mr. Dreemurr?" he asked, soon noticing the man(?) beside him. "Um... Who might this be?"
"Possibly a patient," he offered, the man going wide eyed. "I'ma Mario! It'sa niced to meet you!"
The man stared, speechless. "...I don't know if we can treat paper patients..."
