Okay guys and gals- since I'm going to be doing something with Paper Mario's Trio Attacks fairly soon, it's only fair that I get some general information down regarding them- some canon stuff, some fanon stuff, typically how they're going to work on DC and what goes into their creation and execution.
THE WHAT:
Trio attacks, in their most base description, are attacks executed by unfolding a giant, cardboard hammer and bringing it down on the foes you want to punish. Once the hammer falls, anything caught up in it is smashed into an image on paper, and teleported to another dimension, seemingly made entirely of cardboard. From there, what is done and the shape of this cardboard dimension is completely dependent on what Trio Attack is used. I've used the comparison that Trio Attacks are like a combination of Virtual Reality and Alternate Dimensions- but more on that later.
THAT is a video showcasing all five of Paper Mario's current Trio Attacks. But all we ever see is Paper Mario Swinging the hammer- what decides the actual attacks? Well, here's the next thing:
HEADCANONS:
Now, the following is not shown in Paper Jam, but I think it's fitting and shall be treating this info as fact in RP.
First and foremost, the box that unfolds into the hammer has a slot on it. That slot is for cardboard game cartridges- those cartridges being precisely what contains the Trio attack itself- hence my description of them being like Virtual Realities. Insert the cart, unfold the massive hammer, paperize, and be transported to the world the cart has saved. Now, if they're made from cartridges, how do you make a new Trio attack?
Simple: you insert a blank cartridge into the hammer and have at it.
To explain- whatever the hammer flattens, it becomes paper. But without a world to execute an attack in, the users and the paperized being or item are sent to a world that looks like a blank slate- with a single box within it, opened wide. The item that was squished lands inside of the box, and it starts to unfold, generating a world that best fits the donated item. Guns make a shooting range, bombs make something befitting an explosive expert, snow makes a world for an avalanche- and so on.
Once the attack is done once (the world provides dummies for you to take out), the users and item are brought back into the world, the blank cartridge now containing a new Trio attack for use when Paper Mario and his corresponding allies are capable.
Also; When the hammer slams down, an effect similar to a Bakugan battle happens- Time and space warp, bringing the participants to a new realm with a time all its own, with the outside world only feeling maybe a second later when the effect wears off. This way, rather than simply stop the action, it allows things to move along at the same rate when the warping ends.
And one last thing- less a headcanon, more a fact- paperized foes can wiggle and move around, if only slightly.
