Location: Inferno. Known to keep small outposts in human world. Ancestral home pre-Undoing was the Gobi Desert.
Lifespan: Depends on caste. Removal of core causes instant death.
Average size: Varies.
Prominent features: Body typically patterned like some kind of gemstone or rock, the same type as their core. Core may or may not be on display.
General abilities: Biological immortality, shapeshifting, weapon generating, enhanced strength and durability, regeneration from otherwise-fatal wounds if their core remains intact, absorbing other demon cores for their powers, and access to demon magic.
General weaknesses: The removal of the core causes instant death. The core can heal if merely cracked, but the demon will be much weaker until it is fully healed.
Naming theme: Typically derived from a darker figure or place in mythology or history. Insect-based names (Locust, Wasp, etc…) are also common. Only one name per individual.
Reproduction: Hatch from eggs. While hundreds of eggs compromise the average brood, very few will make it to full adulthood. Adulthood is reached at 100 years. Can breed with humans, having children that are mostly human but with some extra traits from the demon parent. (NOTE: Male human/female demon preferred due to acting like regular human reproduction.)
Hierarchy
Luxuria: Pink blood. Typically take pink cores. Lowest caste. The physically smallest and frailest caste. The most relaxed caste overall. Have an average lifespan of 1,000 years. (20%)
Gullia: Orange blood. Typically possess orange cores. Second-lowest caste. Most likely to develop psychic powers (95%). Possess the heartiest appetites. Have an average lifespan of 2,000 years. (20%)
Avaritia: Yellow blood. Typically possess yellow cores. Lower middle caste. Most members of this caste possess sharp wits and a high attention to details, making them excellent bankers. Have an average lifespan of 3,000 years. (20%)
Acedia: Blue blood. Typically possess blue cores. Middle and most populous caste. They are overall the physically most powerful caste, but are the least likely to develop psychic powers (5%). Have an average lifespan of 8,000 years. (25%)
Ira: Red blood. Typically possess red cores. Upper middle caste. Natural warriors due to their great strength, but the most likely to be a danger to themselves and others if pushed. Have an average lifespan of 15,000 years. (10%)
Invadia: Green blood. Typically possess green cores. Second highest caste. Overall the largest caste in terms of sheer size. Invadia-class demons are a danger to everyone when provoked due to their sheer size. All demons of this caste must register with the assembly. Have an average lifespan of 30,000 years. (5%)
Superbia: Purple blood. Typically possess purple cores. Highest caste, akin to royalty. They possess great abilities all-around and command the respect of their race. All demons of this caste must register with the assembly. Average lifespan is unknown but assumed to be at least 50,000 years, as nobody has ever lived long enough to find out. (Less than 1%)
Government
Demon Assembly: A gathering of 2,000 demons from all ranks. Can pass preliminary laws for the monarch to approve or veto. Can override veto with 75% majority. Entire assembly must run for reelection every 50 years.
Monarch: The most powerful Superbia-class demon in the Inferno. Currently held by Malebolge. Can veto laws passed by the assembly, and sack unpopular assembly members.
Structure of Inferno
Ring A: Asphodel. The ring closest to the surface. The least hostile to demon life, though almost completely void of anything, really. Governor is Penthesilea.
Ring B: Semiramis. A windy ring mostly inhabited by Luxuria-class demons. Parts of it are considered the major red-light distract. Governor is Rimini.
Ring C: Guelph. A ring that rains half the time and snows the other half, mostly inhabited by Gullia-class demons. One of two rings where water flows instead of lava. Governor is Cerberus.
Ring D: Prodigia. The financial centre of the Inferno, mostly inhabited by Avaritia-class demons. Enjoys relatively mild living conditions… at the expense of ridiculous property prices. Governor is Plutus.
Ring E: Styx. The main agricultural ring, also one of the two where water flows instead of lava. Inhabited by mostly Acedia-class demons. It is also home to the portal to Paradiso; mostly for transport of angel prisoners. Governor is Phlegyas.
Ring F: Dis. The biggest city in the Inferno, enough to take up an entire ring. Lava flows constantly down here. Rings from this level down are forced to funnel all their water from Styx. Home to the demon’s jail for lesser crimes. Governor is Epicurus.
Ring G: Atraps. A ruthless frontier of a ring. Possesses only three cities. Used as a training ground for soldiers. Inhabited mostly by Ira-class demons. Governor is Capaneus.
Ring H: Myrrha. A pit of obsidian and lava, it provides geothermal power to the rest of the Inferno. The seat of the demon assembly and the queen herself. Due to this ring’s sheer size, a variety of transporters are in place. Was once the home of the Bolgia regiment. Mostly inhabited by Invadia-class demons. Governor is Geryon.
Ring I: Judecca. Less a place of residence than a holding ground for Mastema, the king of the demons before the Undoing. Angels bring prisoners sentenced to the pit of hell here; the one time outside Purgatorio (post-Undoing Earth) where the two races interact. Unusually, this ring is almost completely frozen, in spite of the lava flow.
Brief history
Evolved from common insects approximately 360 million years ago (late Devonian), pre-Undoing. Attacked humanity out of disgust for their decadence and lack of productivity, in the process wrecking Earth and knocking the planet back to the stone age. They lost the battle and were exiled to the Inferno.
