Full Name: Toby Blake Grayson
Nickname(s): Tobe, the Green-Eyed Præt'nos, the Anomaly
Age: 17
Height: 5' 9"
Weight: 135 lbs.
Gender: Male
Race: Human and/or Præt'nos (exact classification unknown)
Alliance: Good
Home: Summer Snow Valley, USA
Franchise: Unusual Tales from Summer Snow Valley (Original Story)
Physical Description
In his normal form, Toby is tall and lanky, with barely enough muscle to not look like a twig. He has light skin, messy black hair and bright green eyes. He typically wears an orange and black tee-shirt, black jeans and grey tennis shoes; in cool weather, he'll also don a grey hoodie.
In his Præt'nos form, he looks like any other Præt'nos in terms of body shape and color –all black body made of pure darkness that blends into the shadows, long antennae-ears shaped like the Gemini sign, sharp teeth, long claws– but his eyes are a solid green that is uncharacteristic of a normal Præt'nos.
Weapons and Accessories
Aside from those he creates with shadows, usually Toby doesn't use weapons; he'll throw something or use a nearby blunt object if the need arises.
Abilities/Powers
Toby possesses advanced umbrakinesis, darkness and shadow manipulation. He can use shadows to craft ethereal weapons or tendrils, create concussive blasts of dark energy, shroud an area in darkness, merge his body with shadows to heal/physically enhance himself or travel through the darkness itself, and open portals to other dimensions by creating temporary rips in the void that separates worlds. He can also take on the full form of a Præt'nos; in this state, he is stronger, faster, nearly invulnerable, and can manipulate the shape of his body in the same manner as his shadows.
Weaknesses
Although he is exceptionally skilled with his shadow powers, Toby's combat skills are lacking and he is easy to panic; generally speaking, he's not the best solo fighter and needs constant backup. Light-based attacks will more often than not best his shadows. While in his Præt'nos form, he can easily lose control of himself and fly into a fit of destructive rage, though he is better at overcoming this than he used to be.
Skills
Toby tends to take on various housekeeping duties, so he's good at cleaning and organizing. He's well experienced with retro gaming and has a photographic memory, though this is generally reserved for movie trivia.
Personality
Toby is a shy and quiet kid, forever scarred by the events that have led up to this point in his life and confused about his ultimate purpose. He's incredibly socially awkward and introverted, especially around strangers, and could easily go a whole day without talking. Around his friends, though, he's not afraid to kick back or try to have fun, awkward though he may be. He does have his limits, and he can certainly get annoyed or frustrated, especially if his personal boundaries are crossed. More importantly, he has a good heart, and he will always help those who need him to the best of his ability, regardless of how scared he is.
History
Toby spent the earliest years of his life in an orphanage in west Pennsylvania before being adopted by the Grayson family. He lived an average childhood with his adoptive family until his preteen years, when his shadow powers started to manifest. Though his family was concerned, they promised to keep this a secret. Despite this, word of his powers eventually reached the White Gallows, a religious cult that several members of the Graysons' church were a part of. They broke into the family's home one night, killing Toby's parents and brother and wounding Toby to the point of unconsciousness, though he was spared by a guilt-stricken cult member and sent floating down the Ohio River.
Eventually Toby floated into Summer Snow Valley, where he was found and healed by its residents. After telling them his story, the people of the valley offered him a home in Maple House and promised to protect him if the White Gallows ever came after him again. In the years that followed, Toby grew accustomed to life in Summer Snow, honing his shadow abilities to combat the supernatural forces that plagued the land and crossing paths with the White Gallows on several occasions. He also came into conflict with the Præt'nos, interdimensional shadow demons with powers similar to his; their ongoing fight eventually led to the discovery that Toby could transform into a Præt'nos, albeit an uncharacteristically green-eyed one. This revelation has caused great confusion for both parties, bringing to question Toby's identity and origin.
Eventually, the Summer Snow gang discovered Dimensional Island; Toby opted to stay with the group on the island, as he was more often than not the one to offer fast travel between the two worlds. More pressingly, though... Toby felt an instinctive need to stay on the island, one he didn't understand at first but has now once again placed him in the forefront of the battle against the Præt'nos. He is the only thing standing between them and their conquest of the island... AND HE IS NOT HAPPY ABOUT THAT AT ALL.
Other
Toby has on-and-off somnambulism (he's an infrequent sleepwalker), sonophobia (fear of loud noises) and a severe case of self-loathing (I don't think this one needs explained).
