"Residential districts, huh?" Ace mused, rubbing her chin. "Hmm... If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, maybe we shouldn't check that out. From what I understand, there's something important there that's not meant to be seen or tampered with for the time being."
She paused to cast a deadpan frown at the wall...
"Anything else worth checking out, though? And remember, this is all for fun, Pat; I don't wanna make you feel obligated to traverse the entire island just to find a ghost."

"Well, I don't think- GCK-!" Van was promptly cut off when Patrick wrestled back control over their body, immediately standing up and shaking his head.
"No... No it's fine," Patrick insisted. "If there are no ghosts around here, we can just... keep doing the roleplaying thing. It was pretty fun, to be honest, doing the haunted house all-in-your-mind shtick."
He offered a wide smile. "I know you were just trying to cheer me up, Ace. I appreciate it. I guess I do tend to take being a Ghostbuster a little too seriously, huh? Why don't we just snoop around a few more old buildings acting all cool and investigative, then we'll call it a night."

"You sure?" Ace replied sadly, fearful that her attempt to lighten the mood had only led to disappointment. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get your hopes up. Sure, there's not much to gain in traveling too far from home tonight, but I guess part of me was kinda hoping to see a ghost too. But..." She smiled a little. "I guess that's fair. If you wanna goof around a bit more, I say have at it. Then I'll get you that Ecto-Cooler float."

"Sounds delicious," Patrick chuckled, standing on his tip-toes to give Ace a peck on the cheek. "Then let the busting resume!"
At that decree, Patrick scurried down the street, his typical excitement having returned with an oddly mischievous edge.
Patrick, what exactly are you doing? Van asked, suddenly wary of Patrick's behavior.
Seriously, are you just being your usual retarded self... or are ya playing at something else here? Ray asked, his tone hinting at an internal smirk.
Opting not to respond to his other selves, Patrick came to a halt in front of one of the Plaza's older buildings, the store it once housed long closed. "Alright, Ace! Scanners detect a full-torso apparition right in there. I'll circle around the back and try to catch it off guard. Think you can find it and keep it contained in the meantime?"

Ace excitedly chased after Patrick, happy to see his enthusiasm in full swing again. Once he had found a location and laid out his pretend plan, she gave him a salute and a giggle. "Heheh... Can do, Doc."
After making sure that no one was watching them, Ace dashed up to the front of the building and phased inside, ready to scope the abandoned store for their imaginary fiend.

After nodding back to Ace, Patrick rushed around to the back of the building, checking to make sure the coast was clear. No one was watching him. Ace was preoccupied.
He took a deep breath, his expression turning serious.
"I was led to believe that I would bust a ghost tonight." A purple aura surrounded his form. "I'm sorry, Ace. I love you, I know you mean well, but I will not rest until a ghost gets busted!"
Oh no...
Oh yeah!
Patrick, you're not!
Van, he is!
Patrick, this is ludicrous! I thought I told you not to cause a scene!
Come on, Van! Pat's a natural at this! Let's do this thing! It'll be the best show I've had all night!
RAY, DON'T ENCOURAGE HIM!
Completely tuning out the voices by that point, Patrick summoned a conjuration circle, standing on one end while magical energy gathered on the other. He reached his magic across the multiverse, calling out to another plane of existence, opening a rift from the spirit world to the island. Through his spell, he successfully made contact with the spirits, beckoning them to him.
And soon enough, a ghost drifted out of the portal, a white mist with glowing yellow eyes, oozing with ectoplasm and groaning lowly as it hovered before the one that summoned it.
Patrick smirked at the apparition. "Hello, there. Hope you're not too angry about what I'm about t-"
Suddenly, another ghost shot out of the portal. Then another. Then two more. Then five more. Soon there was a mass of spectral horrors all around him, screeching and moaning, swarming about as more and more spirits flew through the portal and escaped into the Plaza.
"GAH!!!" Promptly taken off guard, Patrick focused all of his energy on the portal, desperately straining to seal it shut as the ghosts poured out of it like water from a fire hose. "CRAP! BAD! NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE SO MUCH NOPE!!!"

With a playful smirk, Ace tiptoed through the empty store, eyes peeled for anything suspicious. Or at least anything that she could pretend was suspicious. As childish as this might've been, she was enjoying it. She had to wonder what Patrick had planned. Whatever it was, it had to be interesting.
"Wha...?!" All of a sudden, she heard an ungodly screech just outside, turning around and facing the glass doors to find a horde of ghosts and ghouls pouring out of the alleyway into the streets. Her initial reaction to the horrific sights and sounds was wide-eyed shock and terror. Her second reaction was irritation.
"Patriiiiiiiick..."
Unfolding her wings, Ace bolted across the room, phased through the wall and landed in the alley. Sure enough, she found Patrick fumbling with a portal, from which the undead masses were escaping. "PATRICK, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"

"I'M SORRY I'M SORRY I'M SORRY I'M SORRY C'MON C'MON C'MOOOOOOOOOON!!!" Finally, with a great deal of effort, Patrick sealed the portal shut, ending the onslaught of ghosts.
After panting for a few beats and wiping his brow, Patrick turned around and stared in horror at the departing swarm of spirits he had unleashed upon the city. "POPSICLES...! I-I just meant to bring ONE ghost here! JUST ONE! Just one real ghost to bust and send back to where it came from! I didn't mean for this to happen, I swear!!!"
Yeah, but it still makes for a good show.
Ray! This is serious!
Serious and Ghostbusters? That's a laugh.
Gulping hard, eyes locked with Ace's disappointed scowl, Patrick fumbled to recover. "But it's okay! We can round 'em all up, right? You and me? Heheh?"

Ace's mouth hung agape in disbelief. Sure, she was angered with the chaos that Patrick had unwittingly released, but in hindsight, she REALLY should've seen it coming. As if Patrick would've passed up any given opportunity to act like a real Ghostbuster. She just had to indulge his fantasies, didn't she?
"Patrick...! I just... I can't believe... Why would would you even...? Why did I have to...? RGH...!" Ace paced for a bit, furiously rubbing her temples, then she came to a halt and took a deep breath. There were no words to describe her frustration and no time to figure them out. There were bigger problems at hand.
Facing Patrick again, she firmly stated, "We'll talk about this later. Let's just get these freaks back to wherever they came from."

"Yaaaaaaaaaay...!" Patrick softly squealed, barely even attempting to hide his excitement.
For goodness sake... I hope you know what you're doing.
When does he ever?
With a fierce grin, Patrick whipped out his proton gun and started marching out of the alleyway and into the mass chaos in the streets. "Hang tight, Ace. Let's show these freaks how we do it downtown!"
Upon stepping onto the scene, Patrick looked around for a suitable target, quickly setting his sights on a clawed, wide-eyed ghost weaving around the street lights over his head. In a flash, Patrick fired a stream of protons at the specter, ensnaring it in the flickering beam and pulling it closer to him. Once it was close enough, he freed one hand to channel an abjuration spell beneath it, then launched the ghost into the blue light and cut off the beam.
One down! Patrick quickly dashed down the street and fired at another ghost before it even knew he was coming, flinging it into the banishment spell he had left hovering in the open air. Seeing this, a multi-armed ghost launched itself at him, but Patrick unflinchingly caught it in his particle beam, lassoing the grotesque being and wrestling it into the portal.
Patrick, if you're just going to use your magic to banish them, what is the point of the proton pack? Van sighed.
"It's more fun this way! A-doi!" Patrick replied with a chuckle before catching a three-headed ghost that had attempted to sneak up on his from behind.

Following suit, Ace swooped out of the alley and flew off in the opposite direction, quickly approaching a large number of ghosts. So if she remembered correctly, the energy used to capture ghosts was created by colliding high-energy positrons and focusing them into a charged particle beam. She had never tried it, but it sounded like something she could manage. Particles were her area of expertise, after all.
Setting her sights on a ghost with a wide mouth and a multitude of eyes, Ace slowed to a hover and focused on the energy around her. Her first attempt at creating a beam simply resulted in a lightning bolt, which did very little to the ghost other than knock it back and send it spinning out of control.
"Drat..." Positrons, Ace! Not electrons!
Her spectacle had drawn quite a few ghosts to her, forcing her to fly in circles as she began her second try. It was a slow process, but eventually Ace had a concentration of pure, positive-charged energy in her hands. With a smirk, she stretched it towards a ghost, the yellow light wrapping around it like a rope.
"Booyah!" Well and truly pleased that she was on the right track, Ace snatched another ghost in a second proton beam, then flew towards the blue light of Patrick's banishment circle until she was close enough to fling the ghosts inside.
Wow. That was kinda fun!

"Yeah! You got it!" Patrick hollered to his girl as he charged at a rather large ghost protruding with tentacles.
In his sprint, Patrick summoned a mighty gust of wind to push him onward, speed him up and keep him moving. He fired a beam at the tentacled behemoth and kept on running, dragging it along like an oversized flag. Then, once the ghost was down for the count, helplessly flailing about, he swooped over the portal and practically slam-dunked the ghost into it before landing on the other side and cutting off the wind.
"WHOO! ...Wuh-oh." When he looked up again, Patrick found himself surrounded from all sides. A lot to deal with at once, but at least they had come straight to the portal.
First he caught one of the smaller ones and flung it into the light. Immediately thereafter, he was attacked by two ghosts, one with long pincers, the other with a serpentine body. Their strikes didn't hurt –it just felt like he was being bombarded with Jell-O– but they were certainly throwing him off balance. In response, Patrick threw his arms out and pushed the ghosts back with a repelling spell, looking up in time to fire his stream at a third ghost just as it swooped in, plunging it into the portal. "Maybe now you'll think twice before ya slime a guy with a positron collider!"
When the remaining ghosts charged in for seconds, Patrick grabbed the snake ghost with his beam, spun around and slammed it into the scorpion ghost, knocking it into the trap like he was playing a messed-up version of mini golf. After disposing of the snake, Patrick paused to play some air guitar with his particle wand, then ran back down the street and charged up a summoning spell. These ghosts were roaming too far from the playing field. It was time to get them under control. "Alright, fellas! Come to daddy!"

"Ha!" Ace had to marvel at Patrick's skills, not to mention just how much he was enjoying himself. The guy certainly had a knack for it.
Her focus quickly shifted back to the ghosts in her immediate area. In a flash, Ace roped an amorphous specter in an energy beam, then she spun in a circle, knocking the ghosts into each other and sending them all into dizzying spirals. After flinging the one in her grasp portal-ward, she quickly snatched up a large number of the others while they were still disoriented from the collision, flinging them into the abyss one by one.
Curiosity suddenly overcame her, prompting Ace to fly past the ghosts that had regained their composure and started to pursue her. Once they were all bunched up and close enough, Ace struck them with a wave of gravitons, the pure force pushing them all towards the portal like a great gust of wind. Taking note of this, Ace flew after them, charged up the gravitons around her fist, and delivered a sharp punch to one of the ghosts. The force alone was enough to strike it down and into the rift, quickly followed by its comrades.
Okay, yeah. Ace was definitely enjoying herself too.

A blue, ethereal dome quickly rose up around the Plaza, trapping the ghosts inside. Any bystanders attempting to escape the scene could easily pass through, but anything undead would be repelled from the abjuration spell.
Glad to see you have some sort of plan, Van murmured in Patrick's head.
"Yeah, man! Gotta keep 'em contained," Patrick replied as he captured and banished another ghost. "Can't be chasing 'em all around the city. Ain't nobody got time for that."
Yeah, well, how about we hurry this up? Ray grunted.
"I thought you were having fun!"
I was. Then they slimed us.
"Oh yeah. That was weird," Patrick guffawed.
I feel so funky...
After charging up his magic, Patrick unleashed a series of blue spheres, each one latching onto a ghost and holding them in place. He then grabbed one pure white ghost with his proton beam and flung it at another one. The collision started a chain reaction of ghosts slamming into each other and bouncing around in the street like shrieking, writhing billiards balls. One by one the ghosts strayed towards the portal's pull and were sucked inside until only one remained, which Patrick sunk with a blast of positrons and a blank stare.
Okay, that was pretty awesome, Ray chuckled.
Y-Yes. Good on ya, Van offered.
Patrick simply beamed at his good work.

Ace had to smile at just how quickly she had gotten the hang of positron manipulation as she captured ten ghosts all at once, one per finger with each one projecting its own particle beam. After dumping one handful into the portal, she allowed herself a moment of goofiness, releasing the other five ghosts and proceeding to juggle them on her energy beams. Occasionally she would break the pattern and flick one into the portal until none remained.
Well, this was certainly easier than she had anticipated. These freaks had barely put up a fight.
"Alright! Looks like we're just about done, Pat!" With a beat of her wings, Ace flew high into the air. "I'll scout around to see if there are any we missed!"
