"Cool cool!" Patrick hollered back as he deposited two more ghosts into the portal. After that, he took a good look around with a satisfied smile. The streets were looking pretty clear, and though he wouldn't have been surprised if there were still a few more foes lurking about, he had to admit that this was a pretty successful endeavor. He got to bust quite a few ghosts with relatively minimal damage, and he had a ton of fun doing it. Wasn't that what he wanted in the first place?
But now wasn't the time to celebrate. He had to be sure there would be no more hauntings tonight.
Proton wand at the ready, Patrick smirked at the horizon and let out a beckoning whistle. "Oh boys! Come out come out wherever you are! There's still plenty of Patrick to go around!"
Sure enough, he spotted a white light down the street, grinning coyly and pointing his wand at it, waiting for it to make the first move. Slowly, the light took on a recognizable form, perhaps the most recognizable out of all the ghosts that night. That of a teenage boy, barely older than Patrick, albeit with slightly deformed features and sagging skin akin to a melting candle.
Patrick didn't flinch. The ghost didn't move.
"Maaaaaage..."
Patrick raised an eyebrow, taken aback slightly as the ghost communicated in a scratchy voice.
"What aaaaaare yoooooou?"
"I'm Dr. Rooke, Ghostbuster extraordinaire," Patrick responded confidently.
"A... A rook..."
To all three of the mage's personalities' shock, the one to be startled by this conversation was Ray. Oh God...

BOOM
Without warning, Ace reappeared behind the ghostly young man, swinging a fist through the open air and slamming him with a crushing force of gravitons. The apparition was instantly launched down the street towards Patrick, well within the firing range of his proton beam. "LAST ONE! GET 'IM!"

"YIPE!" Having been thoroughly distracted by Ray's reaction to the ghost, Patrick was unprepared when Ace propelled it his way. Regardless, he hastily aimed his gun and prepared to fire.
As it flew across the Plaza, crying out in an unholy shriek, the ghost boy transformed in midair, its form contorting into something bestial yet otherwise unrecognizable. By the time it was upon the petrified mage, the ghost resembled little more than a writhing mass of flesh with claws and a bright green aura.
Before it could touch him however, Patrick was mentally pushed aside and Van took over their body, just barely pulling the trigger in time and catching the specter in a flickering yellow beam.
"Y҉̡͝ÒŲ ҉FÒO͟O̕͘OO͢Ơ̷͞O̷̷̶Ò͞O̷O̢̡͠OO̸L̡..̴͢.!̕͟!̡͠!҉"
Without so much as a twitch, Van drove the ghost deep into the portal, burying it in the blue light, ensuring that it was gone for good before releasing the beam.
He took a few deep breaths, his expression low and deadpan. Then he looked up at nothing in particular. "Ray. You and me."
Van then retreated back into his head, granting Patrick control once more. As he stood there, shaking, staring at the portal, he couldn't even bring himself to be upset that Van had stolen the final catch. He was just... stymied.

"Whoa...!"
Ace swooped in and landed next to Patrick, looking equally as startled by what had just occurred. "S-Sorry! I thought you'd wanna bust the last one. I figured you were ready for it. Are... Are you alright, Pat?"

"That..."
With a wide-eyed, vacant expression, Patrick hung his proton wand up on his pack with one hand, sealing the portal shut with the other.
"That was..."
He looked up at Ace, blown away by what they had just done. The ghosts, the exhaustive hunt, that last-minute scare... There was really only one logical reaction to it all.
"AWESOME!!!"
Well, logical for Patrick, at least.
"OH MY GOD, THAT WAS... WOW! Did you see when I hauled that big one into the portal?! And then I zapped a bunch with binding magic and did the pool thing with 'em! Oh, and you were manipulating gravity and throwing 'em all over the place! And you even made your own proton beams and were juggling them around and stuff! Man, we were knocking 'em in left and right, they never even knew what hit 'em! THAT WAS SO COOL!!!"

Ace had to laugh the moment Patrick made his thoughts known. Why would she have expected any other reaction. "Yeah, I'm... I'm not gonna lie, that was pretty fun!"
After calming down from the chuckles, Ace placed a hand on Patrick's shoulder and gave him a smirk. "Nice shootin', Tex. But now that we've cleaned up our own mess and prevented a city-wide haunting, shall we go over what we've learned tonight?"

"Well, I learned that the best kind of catharsis when you find yourself on the fence is to accept the bad and fall back on the good!"
Patrick returned Ace's smirk. He was well aware that that wasn't what she was talking about.
"And that, as a dedicated member of the Ghostbuster Summer Snow Valley Division..." Had to throw that in there. "...it's my duty to protect people from ghosts, not unleash them and recapture them just for fun. It's all fun and games until there's an invisible man sleeping in your bed."
Goofball though he may be, no one could say that Patrick's heart was in the wrong place when all was said and done. He was just a naïve kid.
"Also I learned that you are highly awesome and sexy when you fight ghosts." Patrick blushed, bouncing in place slightly. "C'mon, say it with me! We came, we saw..."

Ace beamed, nodded and gave Patrick a pat on the head. "Good boy." Despite his mishaps, Ace knew that he meant no harm, and no harm had been done regardless. They made some mistakes, but they took care of it cleanly and quickly, and they enjoyed themselves along the way. Really, it was hard to hold it against him when everything had turned out as well as it had.
Sure enough, when Patrick began the line, Ace was quick to finish it, albeit with cleaner language. "...We kicked their butts!" She then laughed again, threw an arm around Patrick's shoulder and started walking. "C'mon, Dr. Rooke. Let's go home before someone causes more trouble."

"Ha ha... Yeah." Patrick beamed and leaned against Ace, wrapping his arm around her waist. As he dispelled the barrier spell that he had cast around the Plaza, allowing the night-drenched city to return to normal at last, he jokingly added, "You still owe me that Ecto-Cooler float, by the by. But, uh... another time. We've had enough excitement for one night."
As the mage and the angel strolled home, blissful grins on their faces, well and truly exhausted from the hunt, neither were aware of something deeper brewing...
Ray, seriously, what was that all about?
...........................
Really? Not even a snappy comeback? You're giving me the silent treatment NOW of all times?
...........................
Please, Ray! Talk to me! What did that boy know about us? Why were you so afraid of that ghost?
I ain't afraid of no ghosts.
Oh ha ha.
Patrick hardly even registered his inner voices. All that mattered was that right then, right there, with Ace by his side, he had just had the time of his life and reawakened an old spirit within him. "I LOVE THIS CITYYYYYY!!!"
