Physical Description
Leo is tall and slender, with pale skin, short blonde hair kept down with a black headband, and brown eyes. He is generally seen in a suit of black armour, with a purple and blue high, detachable collar. Underneath the armour, Leo wears a tight black shirt, black leggings, and a blue skirt-like loincloth.
It should be noted that Leo has a tendency to put his clothes on backwards, so don’t be surprised if any of his garments (usually his collar) are on the wrong way.
Weapons and Accessories
Upon arrival, Leo is equipped only with the Brynhildr tome, one of the sacred weapons of Nohr. Capable of creating trees to ensnare enemies, Brynhildr can also be used outside of battle to manipulate earth, plants, and even gravity.
Abilities/Powers
As a descendent of the Dusk Dragon, Leo can tap into areas of power known as Dragon Veins, allowing him to manipulate the environment in various ways, although this power is weaker outside of his home world. He is also one of the few individuals capable of tapping into the true power of Brynhildr.
Leo has a number of skills that can manifest in combat. His personal skill, Pragmatic, shows his cruel side towards his enemies with the following effect: “Grants +3 to damage dealt and -1 to damage taken against injured foes.” Leo’s lack of empathy towards his opponents allows him to deal more damage to wounded enemies, as well as causing him to take less.
Heartseeker is a manifestation his his prowess in dark magic, with the following effect: “Adjacent enemies suffer -20 Avo.” Leo’s presence fills his opponents with dread, making them less evasive.
Malefic Aura is a result of his magical ability, with the following effect: “Enemies within two spaces take +2 damage when hit by a magic attack.” Leo’s very body gives off an aura of dread, reducing the magical resistance of nearby foes.
Finally, while he has no recollection of learning this ability, Leo also has Rally Resistance, while has the following effect: “Use Rally to grant Res+4 to units within two spaces for one turn.” A magical shout from Leo imbues his allies with more magical resistance.
Weaknesses
While on his horse, Reinhardt, Leo is vulnerable to enemies with the Beastbane skill as well as beast-killing weapons. He also lacks physical strength and durability.
Additionally, Brynhildr was weakened with the transport to the island, and is now no more powerful than the standard Fimbulvetr tome, although without any penalties to his abilities.
Skills
Leo is a talented mage and is considered a genius who can do any task at hand. He is a skilled strategist and chess player, and a trained horse rider. He is versed in the use of tomes and scrolls in combat, with a preference towards his home nation’s scrolls. Leo was also capable of using swords and katana in combat, although the transport has weakened him enough to be unable to use them, and he would require a Master Seal to regain that talent.
He is also a passable cook, and will tend to make his food crisp.
Personality
Leo possesses a sharp intellect, and is hardworking and diligent. Regarded as a genius that can handle any task, it has not gone to his head, as he treats his allies with respect and speaks in a polite manner. He is also known to make snarky remarks towards his siblings on occasion, although he typically means no real harm. Calm and cool in most situations, he can come off as more than slightly intimidating.
However, despite his intellect and acknowledged magical genius, Leo has a deep-rooted inferiority complex. He desires to be acknowledged by his older siblings, and believes that his own strengths have left him isolated and alone. This is primarily due to his older foster siblings, Corrin and Corrinne, receiving more attention from Xander and Camilla than he did.
Leo is cruel and without mercy to his enemies (or people he just has plain disdain for), and has no problems with killing wounded enemies. He has moral standards he will not cross, and will extract vengeance properly.
History
Leo was born as Leon to King Garon of Nohr and an unknown concubine, in the last few years of what was known as the Concubine Wars. Leon was used as a pawn by his mother to further her own status, and was forced to kill several of his half-siblings at a young age, to avoid being killed himself. He did, however, bond well with Xander and Camilla, and after she was born, Elise. Shortly after the Concubine Wars, Leon changed his name to Leo, to avoid the darkest memories associated with that name. After training, realizing he could never match Xander’s skill with a sword, trained in magic instead, eventually becoming skilled enough to wield the sacred tome, Brynhildr. He also bonded well with his sibling in the Northern Fortress.
Eventually, the sibling in the fortress was allowed to live in Castle Krakenberg, and was presented with a sword from Garon. When they refused to execute Rinkah and Kaze, Hoshidan prisoners from a recent skirmish, Leo had their deaths faked for them, although he outwardly claimed it was to avoid upsetting Camilla and Elise. He later came to their rescue when a simple scouting mission on the border soured, although he would not see them again until a fateful encounter on the plains of Hoshido… the Branch of Fate.
Leo was shocked when his foster brother, Corrin, chose Hoshido. He fought against the Hoshidan royals, but was forced to retreat when Xander was defeated. He developed a grudge (?) against Corrin, disavowing them as family when they met in Izumo. He had been in Izumo to kill Zola, whom he viewed as a disgrace to the Nohrian army, but at Corrin’s insistance, decided to exile the mage instead. They met again in Cheve, when Leo arrived to reinforce Camilla, once again attacking Corrin, proclaiming himself to be Camilla’s only little brother. However, he was forced to retreat when Chevois rebels, lead by Scarlet, and Ryoma, disguised as a general, appeared.
When Hoshidan forces began a push into Nohr towards Castle Krakenberg, Leo confronted Corrin in the Woods of the Forlorn, stating that he would kill him, as well as neither confirming nor denying that he had always hated Corrin. Along with his retainers, Odin and Niles, Leo summoned an army of Faceless from the bogs, but was ultimately defeated. However, when Corrin refused to kill him, Leo was forced to admit a truth…
In truth, Leo had never hated Corrin. While unable to turn against his father, Azura revealed a truth about Garon. In exchange, Leo offered Corrin a warp book to aid in their pilgrimage to Notre Sagesse… And a few words of warning about Xander’s power. Later, Leo appeared after Corrin defeated a Nohrian army lead by Iago in Castle Krakenberg. As Iago threw himself at Leo, begging for his aid, Leo killed the sorcerer. He stated that he would not stop Corrin’s attack against Garon, but that he would not aid the Hoshidan army.
After Garon was killed, Leo found that Elise and Xander were dead. Camilla abdicated her claim to the Nohrian throne, leaving Leo as the only heir to the throne. He attended Ryoma’s coronation, and while he was polite in person, Leo never forgave Corrin for the rest of his life.
Meanwhile...
In another world concurrent to the one above, Leo saw his foster sister, Corrinne, choose Nohr. After he helped fight off her Nohrian siblings, he returned to Castle Krakenberg, where he was assigned tasks of his own. (Upon learning that Elise was to accompany Corrinne to Notre Sagesse, he remarked that it was nice knowing Corrinne.) Leo sent his retainers, Odin and Niles, to assist Corrinne in subduing the Ice Tribe rebellion.
Leo reunited with Corrinne and his retainers in Cyrkensia, where he was to guard Garon during a performance at the opera house. When one of the singers performed a “cursed” song, damaging Garon, Leo (incorrectly) guessed that it was the work of Hoshidan forces that had arrived. He helped Corrinne fight off the Hoshidan attack, after which Garon ordered that all the singers in Cyrkensia be put to death. When Corrinne objected, Leo dragged her off to speak to her in secret. He disagreed with their father’s orders, but couldn’t object… At least not directly. He devised a plan to look in unlikely places to give the singers time to escape, to which Corrinne agreed.
Leo’s Brynhildr began to react to Corrinne’s Yato, transforming it into the Grim Yato. While surprised that he was the “hero” of Nohr, he told Corrinne to behave herself on the plan- with Leo’s plan, most of the singers were able to escape.
Leo accompanied Corrinne’s section throughout the invasion and conquest of Hoshido, lending his strength where he could. At the Great Wall of Suzanoh, he defeated the Hoshidan prince, Takumi… And after the conquest, he fought alongside his siblings against Hans and Iago, killing Iago himself after the battle.
Beyond the doors to the Hoshidan throne room… Revealed the true form of King Garon. Horrified, Leo was initially unable to attack the beast that was once his father, but with some encouragement from Xander and Corrinne, regained his nerve, and assisted in releasing Garon’s soul, and helped to put down a new threat and restore peace to the world.
Once more…
Once again at the Branch of Fate, Leo waited the decision. However, while his foster sister, Corrinne, returned to Nohr, his foster brother, Corrin, sided with Hoshido, taking the Yato blade with him. Once again, he fought against the Hoshidan royals, but Xander’s defeat forced a retreat.
Leo taught Corrinne how to use tomes in combat and how to summon Faceless, and once again appeared before Corrin in Izumo, and once again was forced to retreat from the battle when reinforcements from the Chevois rebels arrived…
When the battle in the Woods of the Forlorn happened again, Corrinne fought alongside Leo and his retainers… But again, Leo was defeated, and again, he admitted that he never hated Corrin. Before Corrin departed to Notre Sagesse, Leo left his foster brother with a word of caution about Corrinne’s odd bloodthirst…
Leo, again, killed Iago, and neither stopped nor assisted Corrin against Garon, though he was left unsettled by a truth he had uncovered. Once again, he became the king of Nohr when Camilla abdicated her claim, and never forgave Corrin in private.
Fortunately, it didn’t stick…
Once more at the Branch of Fate, Corrinne went to Nohr, and Corrin to Hoshido, but this time, Corrinne had the Yato. Once again, Leo was assigned his own tasks, sent Niles and Odin to assist Corrinne against the Ice Tribe, and reunited with her in Cyrkensia, where he fought off a Hoshidan attack, powered up her Yato, and devised a plan to save the singers.
During the invasion of Hoshido, Leo would fight against Corrinne’s Hoshidan siblings… But whenever that happened, Corrin was with them. After Ryoma committed seppuku so Corrinne wouldn’t have to kill him, Corrin flew into a rage, taking Raijinto. Leo battled against the Hoshidan survivors… And witnessed Corrin’s death via self-electrocution.
He, once again, killed Iago, and fought against the impostor Garon and an unknown force, although he was never quite the same after.
Once again…
This time, at the Branch of Fate, Leo witnessed both Corrin and Corrinne refuse to pick a side, and both armies attacked. After the twins defeated a commander from both Hoshido and Nohr, they were branded traitors to both kingdoms and fled. He ran into his foster siblings again in Izumo, where he executed Zola for taking Sakura hostage, stating that he was a disgrace to the entire Nohrian army. When Corrinne attempted to convince him to join their cause, she was unable to give names of the “true enemy.” Leo disowned the pair as his siblings, but not before using Brynhildr to break through the locked doors of the buffet hall, where hostages were held…
Later, after Xander battled in Cyrkensia, after Camilla and Elise had left Krakenberg… Leo showed Garon’s deteriorating mental state to Xander. Garon commanded them to destroy Hoshido… And Nohr. Refusing to carry out Garon’s orders, Xander commanded Leo to gather their loyal soldiers, and wait for Corrin and Corrinne to go to the Bottomless Canyon.
Iago’s army attacked the twins after they defeated Hans’s, but Leo, alongside Xander and their retainers, arrived to reinforce their foster siblings. He watched as Corrinne killed Iago, and Xander call a truce with Ryoma. Leo was one of the first to jump into the Bottomless Canyon, although he expressed his skepticism at first. He jumped in alongside Takumi, Xander, and Ryoma… But would land in a snowy land...
