Full Name: Niles
Nickname(s): Zero (Street name)
Age: 17 (though he looks older)
Height: ? (Rather tall)
Weight: ? (Lankier than you’d think)
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Alliance: Troll. Aligned with Leo.
Home: Nohr
Franchise: Fire Emblem (Fates)
Physical Description
Niles has rather dark skin, a single blue eye, and somewhat fluffy white hair. His build is surprisingly lanky; while his arms and chest are toned, he’s otherwise rather thin. He wears a short blue cloak with a hood, a low-cut purple-and-white shirt, tight black pants, and tall brown boots. Over his right eye socket is a black eyepatch with an X-shaped marking, covering that the eye is missing.
Weapons and Accessories
Niles arrives with a Steel Bow and a Mini Bow. The Steel Bow is a moderately powerful weapon, although the draw weight of the bowstring hinders his ability to follow-up consistently. The Mini Bow, while somewhat cutting into his dodging capabilities due to its slightly awkward construction, can be fired at close-range, although this prevents it from attacking at a distance like other bows.
Abilities/Powers
While Niles has decent magical power for a primarily physical attacker, he’s otherwise a normal human.
Weaknesses
Niles has issues with depth perception; while unhindered for the most part on the battlefield, he can take some time to adjust to a new location, in addition to being blind on the right side. He’s also not made of the sturdiest stuff around, and lacks the raw physical strength that more close-range fighters have.
Skills
Niles knows how to break into houses and steal, and does not merely have to resort to “accidentally” bumping into someone in order to pickpocket. He knows how to use bows and yumi in combat, with a preference towards bows. He also knows how to give massages, amongst other more lewd activities. (And we’re not going to ask how he knows this)
Niles has a number of skills that can manifest in combat. His personal skill, Kidnap, references his past as a street urchin, with the following effect, though slightly modified: “Grants Capture command if the castle has a prison. Imprisons defeated foes. Can also use capture command to force Pair-Up with enemy and can steal from their inventory.” Niles can hold back his blows, merely knocking out his opponent to capture them, or can force his victim to fight alongside him and steal their items and weapons.
Locktouch is much simpler; thanks to his outlaw past, Niles can open doors and chests without the aid of keys.
Movement+1 grants Niles an extra point of movement; in this context, Niles can cover longer strides than most foot units, increasing the speed at which he travels the battlefield.
Finally, while he has zero recollection of learning this skill, Niles also has “Malefic Aura,” which has the following effect: “Enemies within two spaces take +2 damage when hit by a magic attack.” Niles’s body gives off an aura that cuts into the magical resistance of nearby foes.
Personality
Niles is cold and callous, and takes joy in the suffering of other people; in turn, Niles is a rather easily agitated individual himself. This sadism is due to his own wretched past, and he delights in making others feel as miserable as he was as a child, feeling that they did not deserve such lavish lifestyles.
Niles also has a lewd tongue and mind, and displays very little in the way of a brain-to-mouth filter. He is prone to double entendres and can corrupt even the most innocent of subjects into innuendo; this is his own strange way of connecting to people, as those who stuck around despite his behaviour would be worthy of his continued company.
Niles, deep down, has severe abandonment issues and fears being left alone again. He responds very poorly to abandonment, and is tormented by nightmares relating to his past.
History
WARNING: What’s under the black text is not pleasant. Read at your own discretion.
Niles’s father abandoned his mother before she was born, and mere years after his birth, his mother abandoned him to the streets of Nohr. As a child, Niles ended up joining a gang of thieves and participated in a number of heists. One such heist involved raiding a mansion for a rumoured “killer doll” the family owned (which turned out to be Peri).
For money, Niles was forced to sell his body, and was raped as a child. As payment for a debt, Niles’ right eye was taken out by another criminal. These occurred before he was thirteen years of age.
At the age of thirteen, the gang of thieves Niles considered to be “family” raided Castle Krakenberg, but were almost instantly caught by the younger prince, Leo. Leaving Niles behind as a decoy, he realized he had nothing left, and begged for Leo to kill him. Instead, however, Leo spared Niles’s life, and had him sworn in as his retainer. Since then, Niles has renounced his outlaw ways (for the most part) and has sworn his absolute loyalty to Leo.
When the Yato stayed in Hoshido, Niles fought alongside Leo and Odin in the depths of the Woods of the Forlorn, but was defeated. While wounded, he survived the battle, and when Leo was crowned the king of Nohr, Niles was the only person the young king had left…
When the Yato left for Nohr, Niles was sent, along with Odin, to aid Corrinne in subduing the Ice Tribe rebellion. He accompanied Corrinne’s section of the Nohrian army throughout the rest of her campaign, reuniting with Leo in Cyrkensia. Niles helped restore peace to the world, but at a great price…
When neither twin chose a side, however, Niles stayed behind, only arriving on the battlefield near the Bottomless Canyon, reinforcing the twins against Iago’s army. While somewhat outmatched, he lent his strength to the twin’s side, and watched as Corrinne beheaded Iago.
When the time came to jump into the Bottomless Canyon, Niles followed Leo, jumping alongside Odin, Hinata, and Oboro… Only to arrive in a frozen land...
