Full Name: Lydia Pendleton
Nickname(s): Lyd
Age: 26
Height: 5' 7"
Weight: 120 lbs.
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Alliance: Neutral Good
Home: Void City
Franchise: Innerdimensional (Original Story)
Physical Description
Lydia is a tall, thin but fit young woman who could be considered pretty despite not putting much effort into her looks. Her appearance is evident of Polynesian descent, bearing brown skin, dark brown eyes, and curly black hair usually tied in a ponytail. Her usual outfit consists of a white tank top, army green pants and jacket, and brown boots.
Weapons and Accessories
Lydia herself doesn't carry weapons. However, Proteus II, the submersible pod she pilots, is equipped with all sorts of gizmos, such as extending arms and hooks, lasers, electromagnetic boosters, cameras, transmitters, nanomachines that can emit electric shocks or inhibit superpowers and magic, and who knows what else? She hasn't even gotten to test out the new nerve and muscle reconstruction system yet.
Abilities/Powers
None.
Weaknesses
She's a pretty normal human with all the normal human weaknesses. She's also a severe alcoholic and can be pretty testy and tactless even when she's off the bottle.
Skills
Lydia is an ace pilot, ready, willing and able to fly just about any aircraft or rocket. She's not bad in a fist fight, but put her behind the mechanical arms of her pod and she can prove to be pretty dangerous. Given her line of work, she's pretty well rounded in the anatomy and biology of multiple humanoid species. She's also not a bad dancer...
Personality
Having been let down by life too many times, Lydia has matured into a bitter, bullheaded, bluntly sarcastic young woman who's fed up with the role she's been handed. This girl won't take no guff from nobody. ...Well, okay, that's not completely true, but when she IS forced to up with someone's BS, she'll grumble and complain about it until she can drown those frustrations in booze. She may be pessimistic, stubborn, and even volatile at times, but when she's given free reign to truly express herself, she can be very fun, charismatic and driven. She yearns for adventure beyond the confines of her current position, and once she finds a cause she can get behind, she'll make sure that ride is wild and worthwhile. Earn her trust, and you'll have an upbeat and loyal friend on your side, even if she is still loathe to really open up and express her insecurities.
History
Lydia is the daughter of Dr. David Pendleton, a scientist and inventor working for the Mexus Center of Modern Technology, and Megan Pendleton, a housewife with a landscaping business. Growing up in Void City, Lydia was very close to her supportive mother, but her father was very distant, spending most of his time working and barely paying attention to her. Ever since she was a child, she wanted to fly; her father insisted that she was better off for not having flight powers like other island residents, which she interpreted as prejudice and passive-aggressive mocking of her dream. When she was old enough, in order to achieve her dream, Lydia became a pilot. While she was training, her mother died in a destructive battle between superpowered beings that had broken out in the residential district; her grief and frustration over the event prompted Lydia to start drinking. At the same time, she started dating Maxine "Max" Niles, a journalist for one of Void City's newspapers, The Lacuna Chronicle.
Before she could pursue any careers as a pilot, Lydia was approached by her father, who offered her a job at the lab. Mexus had developed shrinking and enlargement technology and Dr. Pendleton wanted her to be the test pilot for their new submersible pod. Lydia initially refused, guessing (correctly) that no other pilots were crazy enough to take the job and taking offense to her father's willingness to put her at risk, but she eventually conceded when Mexus offered her an acceptable paycheck. After several successful test runs in which Lydia and the pod were shrunk and injected first into test animals, then into humans, Mexus started utilizing the pod for various espionage means. To do so, they would inject Lydia into their targets’ bodies –said targets being members of rival corporations and potentially dangerous island inhabitants– where she would attach various implants that could broadcast what the host sees and hears to the lab, download information from their brain, render them unconscious, hinder their powers, etc.
Lydia tried many times to quit her job, but was compelled to stay due to the money she was receiving and her father’s passive-aggressive verbal abuse. Feeling guilty for her actions, her alcoholism worsened and she grew bitter and resentful of... pretty much everything. Her job, her father, the people she was injected into, people who could fly... Eventually it got to a point where her drinking, her refusal to explain what her job entailed, and her overall attitude prompted Max to break up with her. The one thing in her life that still made her happy was her friendship and budding romance with Mexus intern Jack Wexler. After teasing at it for several months, Lydia and Jack have finally arranged a date. And it's on the night of that date that Lydia's REAL adventure begins...
