Full Name: Jonathan Wexler
Nickname(s): Jack, Jackaboy, Intern, Kid, Phoenix 017
Age: 27
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 140 lbs.
Gender: Male
Race: Human...
Alliance: Good
Home: Void City
Franchise: Innerdimensional (Original Story)
Physical Description
Jack could be described as "nerd cute." He has pale skin, short brown hair with messy bangs, and bright hazel eyes that almost look amber-colored. His typical attire consists of glasses, a sandy yellow sweater vest over a white, short-sleeved dress shirt, khakis, brown shoes, and whenever he's working (which is often), his white lab coat.
Weapons and Accessories
Aside from the miniature gun glove he briefly wields, he really only utilizes whatever tools and computers are provided to him at the lab.
Abilities/Powers
Jack is the sole successful test subject of the Phoenix Project. His blood contains nanomachines that channel astral energy; not only is his body a perfect symbiosis of the physical and astral bodies, but he is himself a nexus where the physical and astral planes meet and interact with each other.
His most notable abilities are regeneration and self-resurrection; he can channel astral energy to heal his physical body from any injury, even keeping his spirit bound to his body so he can repair and revive from fatal wounds. He can use this power to heal others as well, but he can only resurrect others so long as their spirit is still intact and has not entered the afterlife. Jack can also manipulate his astral body and the energy he channels, creating extensions of his physical form, concussive blasts, or cosmic fire that produces no smoke or ash, only light and heat, and completely consumes only what he commands it to.
His connection to the astral plane also grants him several psychic abilities: By merging his body with the astral plane, he can teleport (only himself) to any point in space or become invisible and intangible to the physical world. As the physical and astral realms converge around him, he can see and communicate with spirits or other astral beings, and any in his close proximity become temporarily visible and tangible to others. He also possesses telekinesis (via astral extensions), telepathy, empathy, and psychic tracking.
Weaknesses
He may be able to bounce back from any injury, but Jack still has all the typical physical weaknesses of a normal human, on top of not being especially strong, confident, or good at... most things.
Skills
As a science and engineering major with an internship at one of Dimensional Island's top laboratories, Jack certainly knows his way around hardware and software. He's an experienced coder, inventor, researcher and developer, and can formulate solid strategies when he's against a wall. Credit where it's due... he's also a pretty fast runner.
Personality
Jack is very much a nerd. There's no getting around that. He's awkward, unsure of himself, and easily intimidated, but he's quite clearly a brilliant mind in the making. When he devotes himself to a person or project, he commits wholeheartedly, and he can be especially hard on himself when he lets someone down... which tends to happen somewhat often, given that sometimes even he can't keep track of how many commitments he's juggling at once. He's a little too much of a doormat for his own good, as he often tries to make others happy at the cost of his own self-worth, hence his staggering lack of confidence. But all in all, Jack is a sweet kid who simply wants to make a difference; he just doesn't quite have the backbone to do it himself.
History
Jack was born and raised in Void City, growing up with a passion for superheroes. From a young age, he wanted to be one, but given his nature as an ordinary human, he figured that the best way to go about that was via the Batman/Iron Man route: by becoming a technology whiz. Throughout his life, he was the top of his class, growing into an adept engineer, programmer, and overall science nerd. He attempted several times to use the inventing skills he had developed to create some sort of technological superhero persona, but he realized fairly quickly how terrifying it was to be at the center of the action and opted to abandon this dream.
Instead, Jack became an intern at the Mexus Center of Modern Technology in order to further develop and utilize his talents. Though he was put to good use there, his people-pleasing nature led him to be pushed around quite often by the senior technicians; this coupled with his wariness of the overall morality of some of Mexus's projects only worsened Jack's timid nature. After the controversial and highly classified Phoenix Project he was helping with –and unknowingly subjected to– was shut down, Jack joined the crew of a miniaturization experiment dubbed the Proteus Project. His boss's daughter Lydia was brought on board to act as a pilot for their new shrinking submersible pod; the two slowly developed a friendship and over the course of their work, and following Lydia's breakup with her girlfriend, a budding romance between her and Jack followed.
On the morning of a Proteus mission, the lab was broken into by members of a rival corporation. Jack managed to abscond with Lydia and the pod, which had already been shrunk. He was followed and eventually shot, but was able to inject the pod into an unsuspecting William Lowe before succumbing to his wounds. In the trance that followed, Jack deduced that he had been subjected to the Phoenix Project, utilizing his newfound abilities to heal his wound and return to life so that he could rescue Lydia and, perhaps, rekindle his dreams of being a hero.
