Full Name: Deceit
Nickname(s): Wendell Scarnati
Age: Unknown
Height: 8' 6" (5' 11" in human form)
Weight: Weightless
Gender: Male
Race: Brocken Spectre
Alliance: Evil
Home: Sanctum Tenebris
Franchise: War of Shadows
Physical Description
Deceit bears the typical appearance of Spectres, with a fluid, ghostly black body devoid of legs, the lower half of which blends into the surrounding shadows, gangly clawed fingers, long antennae with an outward bend, and bright, solid, ice blue eyes. His human disguise bears pale skin, short, curly black hair, and blue eyes; the attire he's most often seen in is a black dress shirt tucked into black pants, black belt, black shoes, glasses, and a white lab coat.
Weapons and Accessories
Usually none, save for those he crafts from shadows.
Abilities/Powers
Like all Spectres, Deceit possesses control over shadows, allowing him to shape them into semisolid constructs and tendrils, shroud an area in darkness, merge his body with shadows to heal and temporarily alter or bolster his form, and travel through darkness by either merging with the dark channels of the astral plane or by tearing open portals. He is also immensely strong, fast, flexible, and nigh invulnerable.
Weaknesses
His true form is weakened by light and can be temporarily disrupted by especially potent bright light. His human form can protect him from light, but his powers are slightly lessened in said form. Piercing him in the soft spot where the neck meets the shoulder will completely scatter his energy, forcing him into an extended healing process.
Skills
Deceit is frequently deployed as a spy. Using his human form, he can easily blend into a crowd, endear himself to others enough to gain their trust, and sniff out deeply-buried information. To that extent, he's also a great manipulator, able to pull strings and plant traps behind the scenes to tear down his enemies' forces. Oddly, he's also proven to be a genuinely talented engineer.
Personality
Typically speaking, Deceit is very calm and laid back, even under pressure. He can put on and take off masks as needed, displaying anything from a rational and diplomatic businessman, to a friendly and peaceful jokester, to a shy and awkward nerd. All of these traits belie a sharp and cunning manipulator who cares nothing for the people he hurts or the messes he leaves in his wake, so long as he has served his duty to his people. He'll gladly tear down any establishment not out of any true contempt, but simply because he was ordered to. While he's usually cool and collected on the surface, he can display a mean streak, especially if things don't go his way or someone genuinely bothers him; the only way to really put him on edge is to completely cripple his plans. All in all, Deceit is a cool, collected, pitiless schemer under the guise of a nice guy.
History
Deceit was recruited into the Brocken Spectres' Water Army many years ago. In typical fashion, he retained none of his memories from his previous human life, though he did still recall his knowledge and skill in mechanics and technology. Despite these talents, during the course of his training, he proved to possess even greater skills in observation, infiltration, communication and thievery, leading General Phlegmatic to instate Deceit as a spy and saboteur.
After several missions over the course of several years, Deceit was deployed to an island at the center of the multiverse and assigned to infiltrate the Mexus Center of Modern Technology, which at the time was working on a project designed to bind a person's spirit to their body and grant resurrection capabilities; such a concept was viewed as a threat to the Spectres' regime. To achieve his goal of tearing Mexus down, using his technical skills as leverage, Deceit obtained a job at the facility under his human alias Wendell Scarnati. He passed on information on the Phoenix Project to his general, and when the man overseeing the project, Dr. Perry, grew wise to his scheme, Deceit staged an "accident," after which the doctor was not heard from again. The Phoenix Project was decommissioned shortly afterward.
Deceit remained with Mexus during the early stages of their next assignment, the Proteus Project, an experiment in miniaturization headed by Dr. Pendleton. In time, he formulated a means with which to shut Mexus down: He passed on the secrets of the project to their corporate rival, LunArc, and allowed them to infiltrate the facility and steal the program's microchips mere moments after the test pilot, Dr. Pendleton's daughter Lydia, was miniaturized. Though the intern Jack Wexler was able to escape with the shrunken pod and the microchip inside it, Deceit continued to roll with his plan under the belief that Lydia could not be saved, her death would demoralize Dr. Pendleton, and the eventual release of the project's dark, confidential information would ruin the company. What he hadn't expected was for Jack to reveal himself as a successful product of the Phoenix Project...
The Spectre's plot was revealed before it could reach fruition. Mexus still stands and a phoenix is loose on the island. This marks the first time Deceit has failed a mission, and he's not prepared to let that go...
