"Ba-BAWK BA-WK CAW?!?!"
Liderc let out that, plus a number of additional undignified squawking noises as he recoiled from the blast of electricity. Even with his fiery form absorbing some of the damage, he backed off, opting to reform into his usual corporeal form, recovering in a burst of green flames. He spit onto the ground, a wild expression on his face, two batons of flame swirling in his hands, forming into short naginata.
"Finally! Someone who can actually fight! Come on, let's go! But no, not to dinner, I'm not into bestiality."
With a scream, Liderc raised both hands into the air, then suddenly slammed them both down, sending a wave of fire energy into the ground, a vein-like pattern going towards Mickey. A green magma-like substance burst out of the veins.
---
"... I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON ANYMORE." Percy shook his head with a snort, though not letting up his pursuit. "OH WELL. I'LL ASK LATER. GUESS I SHOULD KEEP DOING THE MOVE FORWARD SMASH THINGS THING." With another roar, drawing closer and closer, it extended an arm, lashing out with its long claws.
Will was knocked out of his stupor at the claw that just narrowly missed him, yelping. "Okay, seriously, will someone fill me in?! Anyone? ... That's Jack? Wasn't he supposed to be... y'know what, nevermind. I have enough on my plate as is, and that plate is full. It's been full for a long fucking time."
Okay, no more mister nice guy. "Percy. Stop this. Or I'll actually have to hurt you." The chimera was getting closer, and it opened its mouth, ready to take a bite...
WHAM!!
Percy's flight slowed down and he whimpered, a nasty-looking welt starting to form on its snout. The beast's body began to flicker.
"That's what I thought... Sorry about that."

Jack? Why did that name ring a bell? Ryan paused for a moment, before shaking it off. "Look, I hate to break up the moment but is this really the time for--?" Ryan then saw Jack get blasted aside mid-statement. "Ahh..... nertz." Reinforcements arrived... and then were promptly dispersed. Great. "Max!? Will? What's our move!? Are we staying here or bolting for Lydia's dad?" He asked sharply, watching the chaos ensuing. Thankfully it looked like Liderc was getting occupied, but Percy and Cora were definitely going to be problems.
Will found a way to wiggle out of Ryan's arms and promptly.... started.... disciplining Percy? Ryan stared at the display between Will and Percy in bewilderment. "R-right... okay... that happened."
---
Avenger's attack seemed to have failed but he was still continuing to do what he could to help spread a little chaos around. It seemed Will had the situation with Percy in-hand, but Avenger was still lingering nearby to keep an eye on things. But at the same time as that....
As Cora approached Jack, an identical figure to Avenger appeared in the tree that Jack had collided with. "I'm afraid I can't let you harm my Master, Doctor Michaels." Avenger stated with a nasty grin. "Master, would you like to deal with this, or shall I take care of her?" A black flame formed in his hand. But wait a minute... Even as Avenger was hovering over Jack in the tree, he was also over near Percy, keeping an eye on Willydia. Were there two of him now?

A pattern of white lights steadily floated down Will's esophagus. Through the haze, the PathEngine came into view, propelled by a multitude of boosters, quickly approaching Proteus II. Through the glass, domed head of the suit, Mr. Stone stared down at the pod with a hollow yet fiercely determined expression. The microchip was not escaping his grasp this time.
The suit landed atop the pod. Immediately, one of its spindly legs split partway down the middle, forming a makeshift pair of pliers. It snagged a set of the pod's external cables, severing it in one fluid motion.
---------------------------
"Eep."
Colliding with Will and Lydia's group while riding atop a flying space chimera was far from a pleasant-sounding experience. Being attacked in that position was in the same ballpark. However, Will's punch to Percy's snout, while considerably downplayed, was still fairly startling for Rio. He managed to hold on, but the ramifications of this simple strike concerned him. Percy's flickering form was not all that promising.
But no more wasting time. Rio quickly bucked up and placed his hand on the back of Percy's head, forging a direct line to the beast's brain.
Percy, what's going on? Why are you attacking these people? They're helping Will! Is that doctor lady...
Rio felt it. A connection to Percy's mind. A malicious intent not his own.
...controlling you?
---------------------------
Max's jaw dropped. Will's direct attack on Percy was startling enough, but she only barely caught that in her peripheral. Her eyes were focused on Jack, watching as the intern completely burst into flames, stupefied as those flames flew into the tree and reformed into Jack, completely unscathed, like a phoenix rising from its ashes.
"Oh. My. God."
So all of those hashtags weren't for naught...
Max worriedly glanced back at Ryan; the poor kid was hopelessly lost. Continuing their sprint was still an option, but not while Will was distracted with the beast; they couldn't exactly save Lydia without him. And honestly, the more Max thought about it, the more she conceded that the mess they were in was one that would follow them if it wasn't stopped now. "We're not gonna get anywhere like this even if we do start running again! We gotta get these freaks out of our w-!"
Wait... What was going on with Percy?
"I'll apologize later, I swear..."
Seeing her opportunity, Max jumped out of Ryan's arm and fired her plasma blaster again, aiming directly for the beast's eyes.

"SH*T!!!"
Proteus II jolted from the sudden weight on top of it. Escape had been next to impossible, as going up would have just brought her closer to the psychotic cyborg descending upon her, and she wasn't keen on the idea of lowering herself towards the cesspool at the bottom of this chute. All too soon, though, the cost of her inaction became apparent as Mr. Stone started ripping apart the pod. Lights sparked and flickered. Oxygen started streamlining directly into the cabin.
WARNING: PRESSURIZATION IMBALANCE.
"F*CK ME...!" Lydia tried fruitlessly to plug up the oxygen leak with one hand while fumbling with her controls with the other. One of the pod's arms started swinging at the mech suit, desperate to push it away from its vital systems. It didn't take long for the cool, white steam to cloud her vision almost entirely, making it that much more difficult to shake off the clinging cyborg.
Will was busy dealing with the interlopers on the outside. It was questionable if he could even help her in this particular situation. Lydia was suddenly on her own again, and like every time before, she had no idea what to do with herself now that she was.
Lydia? Lydia, can you hear me??
She sat straight up in her chair, going ramrod stiff for a few seconds. That voice... It was way too crystal-clear to have been broadcast through her headset. Too direct, and yet completely directionless.
"What the hell?! Now I have a voice in my head?! How the hell does that even work?!"
---------------------------
"Rgh..." Cat slowly sat up, small bits of dirt and debris raining down on her from the upper edges of the pit. She rubbed the small of her back, closing her eyes in a tight scowl. "When this is all over, I'm gonna need a chiropractor, I swear..."
She stared up the trench walls, listening intently to the commotion taking place up top. Gunshots and explosions from Mickey's fight with the bird guy. Roars and warbles from Percy and Rio's direction. Boring conversation between the lab coat guy and the tiny doctor. And yet, despite the chaos taking place in all directions, what truly caught Cat's attention was directly above her.
The camper van was still parked on the makeshift island.
"Hmmmmmmmmmm~"
---------------------------
Dr. Michaels folded her arms and looked up at Jack with a cheeky grin. "Really now, Mr. Wexler. You didn't even know you were a phoenix before today, did you? Your gifts were unlocked only due to my intervention, and this is the thanks I get?"
She looked between the young phoenix and the apparent clone of the cloaked man accompanying him. After a moment of contemplation, her chastising smirk once again landed on Jack. "And yet despite all of that, you're still content to hide behind others. I really shouldn't be surprised that such potential is being wasted. Why Anthony trusted you with the power of the Sentinels, I have no idea."
Dr. Michaels then raised her hand, levitating Jack out of the tree and pulling him closer to her level.
"So long as we're here, though, we may as well make the most of this. Between the microchip in your little friend's pod and the nanites in your blood, I have so much to work with."

"Well, good, 'cause I'm not into scat!" Mickey gleefully retorted before launching into a backflip, gracefully leaping and dancing between the lava-filled cracks that snaked his way. "I mean yeah, I'm borderline omni, but a guy's gotta draw the line somewhere!"
The raccoon jumped into a tree, perching atop a low branch. He took aim with his electro-gun.
"Shotgun, BANG!" He fired a pulse, just barely grazing Liderc and striking one of the earthen cracks, triggering a small eruption of fiery green. Then Mickey dove back out of the tree and into the shadows.
---------------------------
Dr. Michaels' monologue was a mere dull drone in Jack's head. Words could not describe how much he didn't care what she had to say. Instead, he kept his focus on Lydia. He sensed her confusion. He had made his presence in her mind known.
No, no, Lydia, it's me! Jack! I'm okay! And I'm psychic now! How're you holding-?
Dread welled up in Jack's throat as he looked through her eyes. He saw the gas venting into her cabin. He saw the pressure gauges on her oxygen rapidly decreasing. He saw the claws just outside Proteus II's window, threatening to tear the pod apart, and Lydia's panicked thought process on the matter told Jack everything he needed to know, particularly on who was behind the attack.
Oh God... Lydia! THAT'S THE GUY WHO KILLED ME!!!
In his distracted state, Jack was caught off guard when Dr. Michaels levitated him out of the tree. With a heavy heart, he returned his attention to his immediate surroundings. Between the sabotage currently threatening Lydia and the diminutive doctor's taunts towards the both of them, the fury within Jack was reaching dangerous levels, setting his amber eyes ablaze.
A scarlet light stretched out from Jack's arm, wrapping around Dr. Michaels like a giant astral hand. Screaming with rage, he flipped around and flung the doctor over his head, launching her high into the air. The mental grip she had on him was severed, allowing Jack to drop back onto his feet.
Those psychic powers of hers... it didn't take long for Jack to deduce the artificial catalyst behind them. He knew what he had to do with this information.
"Leave her to me, Avenger!" Jack hollered, his eyes still trained on Cora. "Just go help Will! Lydia's running out of time!"

"L... Lydia?! What the hell is going on in there!?"
Will looked around, coming out of whatever state he was in. "Lydia?! Uh... What the hell?! What's this about a voice in your head?! What, have we both collectively gone crazy?! Did you get an injection too?! Are you infested?! Because I'd rather not have tiny tiny bugs inside a tiny person inside me. ... Th-That came out wrong, but...!"
The blonde stared as Max took aim at... Percy's eyes. He winced, then quickly covered his ears.
The chimera let out a roar as the plasma struck its eye, skidding to a halt, its form flickering more. It began to lose definition, shrinking in size, monstrous features retracting...
It let out a human-like scream when it stopped flickering, revealing Percy, suit torn up, eyes unfocused and hazy, carrying a shadow-covered sword, feathery wings still out and oversized compared to his small body.
"Mu͋̀s̽̑tͣ̆̉... ̑ġet...̃ g̒etͫͤͥ ͆̒͌Wi͌l͒̋l!̇̇̍ GET AW̋̚A͊Y̅ͯ ͂̆FR̓͗̽OM MͫE!ͮ!͋̈́"ͭ
... Who are you?
---
Liderc let out a swear as the electricity barely grazed him, flying up and out of the way of the mad scavenging masked beast man.
He glanced over at the commotion between Percy and the running ones, grumbling. "Of course, you can't do anything without screwing up. I should've just called Uber."

Avenger gave a short bow to Jack. "As you wish, Master. I look forward to seeing the extent of your vengeance against this woman." He grinned, savagely, and then the black cloaked man was gone, and the only one present was the one near Max, Ryan, Will and Percy now. "Well. I have my Master's will then." He said, approaching the three. "I suggest you join me if you don't want to die." He added, moving between them and Percy. "I doubt your friend will be waylaid for long." Avenger informed them, turning to face Percy and shifting one foot back so that he stood in a combat ready posture, blue-black flames dancing about gloved hands, and his eyes gleaming with a reddish light. As if he was looking forward to what was going to happen. The chaos and pandemonium that was breaking forth. There was no question that regardless of which side won today, someone was going to fall into despair. The breeding grounds for vengeance and hatred. Avenger grinned wickedly.
------
Ryan looked at the black cloaked man in front of them strangely for a moment. Was he an ally then? He seemed to be working with Jack at any rate... Max had told Ryan to quit their retreat and Ryan followed her directive, moving near Max and Will, ready to intercept any attack sent their way. "I understand. I'm a little banged up, but I'll make sure nothing happens to either of you." He assured Max, pausing a moment as he heard Will speak to Lydia. He glanced at her oddly. "Will? What's going on in there?"

Undeterred by the haphazard swipes from the larger, heavier pod, Mr. Stone continued to manipulate the arms of his suit with tact and ease. With the oxygen now rapidly depleting, he continued to rip apart Proteus II's cables and tear into the metal frame, severely damaging a thruster in a few short seconds.
---------------------------
"GAH-!!!" Rio's grip finally loosened the moment Percy was hit in the eyes, sending the mage flying off the beast and tumbling back across the ground. As soon as he had stopped, Rio fought against his bruised and aching joints enough to sit up and turn his attention on Percy again, anxiously watching the chimera shift back into a human, if only mostly.
Despite the minor beating he had taken, Rio managed to maintain his concentration on his spell, a fortunate turn of events when his mental link yielded a response.
What-? It wasn't the sort of response he was expecting, but it didn't take long for him to decipher the cause of the voice's confusion. Oh! You must be the demon in Percy's head. It's me, Riordan. I'm trying to free him from this mind control!
---------------------------
"Sh*t..." Max winced, sympathetic to Percy's pain. Sure, stopping him was her intention, but that didn't mean she actively wanted to attack him. It was an understatement to say that she was on edge. This was just a byproduct of it.
The guy in the cloak seemed ready to defend them. Max was naturally skeptical of the odd stranger, but considering he had arrived with Jack, she was at least hopeful that his gesture was genuine. As she scooted closer to Will, briefly eyeing him as he warily spoke to Lydia, Max turned to Avenger with a narrow gaze and her gun at the ready should anyone or any little thing set her off. "What do you intend to do?! How do we know none of these freaks are gonna follow us?! We don't exactly have the means to ensure a hasty retreat right now!"

"Jack...?" Lydia was briefly stunned, taken aback by the information overhaul she was receiving. Jack was psychic? Sure, it was nice to know that it was his voice in her head, but the implications behind this new development where dumbfounding. Between this and his spontaneous revival, did this mean...?
Holy sh*t, was the Phoenix Project ACTUALLY...?!
The catastrophic jolt that shook the pod snapped Lydia out of her stupor, her anxiety further fueled by Jack's telepathic panic. Maybe it was best to focus on the deranged cyborg tearing Proteus II apart.
TURBO THRUSTER 1 DISABLED.
Lydia sharply inhaled through gritted teeth. Her eyes flicked to her visual feed. Through Will's eyes, she saw Percy shifting back into a semi-human state, but she knew that this was no guarantee that they were out of the woods. He could still very well be crazy, and there were still Liderc and Dr. Michaels to deal with. There was little that Lydia could do for her friends in her position, but with her will spurred by Jack's mental presence, she suddenly remembered that there was one thing she could offer. It wasn't much, but anything was worth a shot by now. This lunacy had gone on long enough.
Time to see if this new bit of tech was worth its salt.
"WILL, RESTRAIN PERCY! NOW!!!" She hastily booted up a new program, the computer graciously responding without interference. Once the nanomachine was activated, she slammed a fist down on one last button, kicking it into full power...
The rest was up to the crew on the outside. She had her own monster to deal with now.
OXYGEN DEPLETION FACTOR: 6.42%
"Okay, buddy, you want a piece of Lydia Pendleton too?! WELL COME GET SOME!!!"
Lydia switched on the pod's laser cutter, aiming it directly at one of the PathEngine's thrusters.
---------------------------
BZZAP
A cord of blue light wrapped around Liderc, freezing him in midair.
"Hello! This is your Uber driver!" Cat shot the avian menace a cheeky grin from atop the camper van, gleefully manning her zero-point energy gun. She slowly pivoted the machine a few degrees to the right, reeling back in preparation. "I hope you enjoy your trip with us today! Rate five stars!"
Then, with all her might, Cat spun the gun to the left and released the energy, flinging Liderc away from the scene.
---------------------------
"HCK-!" Dr. Michaels tensed up in Jack's astral grip, bracing herself both physically and mentally before he chucked her above the canopy. She managed to right herself in the air, scowling down at the phoenix with furious indignation. The energy field around her seemed to distort as she dropped back down to earth, releasing a loud, high-pitched battle cry and raising her fists above her head...
She swung her arms down, slamming a powerful wave of pure psychic force into the ground, shaking the park with an almighty tremor. She was flung back a few inches by the force, then she landed on her feet, turning and facing Jack again.
The boy was alone now. Despite her rage, Dr. Michaels found herself intrigued once more.
"Alright, Mr. Wexler. So it's a battle of the brains you want? Fine. You'll get it."
The doctor shot an intense death glare at the intern, honing in on his mind, transmitting a sharp, piercing pulse of psychic energy.

"YEET!" Mickey poked his head out of the shadows, shielding his eyes as he happily watched Liderc go flying against his own volition. Considering this was the second time he had seen Cat launch that bird into the stratosphere this week, it was safe to say that he would never get tired of it. After a moment of wistful staring, he turned to Cat with a playfully deadpan smirk. "Now why'd ya have to go and steal my thunder, girl? I like me a three-way, but you don't go and blow your load all at once!"
Mickey then stepped out into the open, gun at the ready, and started charging off towards the rest of the ragtag group. "Never mind. Let's go help Rio out! Turn this three-way into a gang bang!"
---------------------------
Jack dashed away the moment he realized Dr. Michael's intent, though he still stumbled from the sheer meteoric force of her impact, landing on his face with a hard grunt. He didn't let the strike faze him, and within a few seconds, he was springing back onto his feet, turning to face the doctor with the might of a man who had reached his breaking point.
He felt Lydia's resolve welling up, stirring determination within both of them. He sensed the anxiety in her friends, urging him not to let them down.
He had Dr. Michaels all to himself. It was up to him now to end this brawl.
"Bring it."
Jack felt a sharp sting in his head, instantly sparking a harsh migraine. In retaliation, he focused his mental fortitude on Dr. Michaels, letting all his fire and fury ignite within her. For every strike he felt in his mind, every psychic twist inflicted on his brain, he shot more back in spades, triggering maddening convulsions, sending waves of agonizing pain through her central nervous system, filling her head with ear-splitting rings of raw, unrestrained ire. Tears flowed from Jack's eyes, blood from his nose, saliva from his mouth, fire from his aura...

"... Hey! You know what?"
Liderc, after regaining some control over his body, placed his hands behind his head, going into a reclining position. "Fuck this shit, I'm out! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to call an Uber." He reached into his armour, pulling out a crystal and bringing it to his face. "Hello? ... Yes, me again..."
---
"... I dunno what the hell's going on in there, but I'm suddenly up for something that isn't stay out of trouble!"
Will actually had something of a smirk on his face, turning to face Ryan. "Ryan! Let me go! I've got orders and a plan! But I can't exactly do so while you're holding me! Trust me, these come from Lydia!" When the cyborg released him, the tall blonde rolled up his sleeves and cracked his knuckles.
Will let out a battlecry and began charging towards Percy.
... Ah, yes, you're that mage from yesterday. I'm not going to question why we can communicate. I just need to find a way back to the surface...
Percy's oversized wings flapped, sword in hand as he moved to block Will's attack, eyes clouded over, a pain in his head. "҉̖̜̺M̞͓̳̝͚͠u̠̰͢s̨͉̼͇̦͔͖̳ț̶͓̭͓̬͕.̻̮̪͓̰.̥̝͜. ͢m̩̣̙͔͈ͅu̴̗̱̗s̞̯͕ṯ͙̠̠ ̻g̠͟et̨̬̙̹̪͇̱̰.̲͉̯̯.̷͍͈͙̮̜̞̩.̯̞̮̫̜ͅ g̹̹̹̣e̙t̜̗͇̮͙ ̲͕̗͘w̮̦̱̘͙͉͔i͍̯l̘͝l̖̖̖.̮͕̬̗̦̭͞.̺̬.̛͚͚ ̭͇̼̥͓͖͔͟A̮̖̩̬A͇͍̹͓͜AA͓͇̟̭͝A̧̰A̠̲͉̩U̴̙U̡̠U̟U̹̺̟U̺̬͇͎G͍̭̙G͉̙̘ͅḪ̞̝͘H̡͖̩H̘̞̞̪̭̦ͅH̀H͝.͔̲͉.͕̪̠͉̪̮̭͞.͔͈͈͍͖!͎͙̲̤͕̟͉!̶!͇̣͖̻̝̭!̬̬̭̥͞!̣̘ His sword hand began to shake, the metal blade useless , falling to the ground...
WHAM!!
Will's fist collided with Percy's face, knocking the brunette off-balance.
WHAM!!
A kick to the chest from Will's heavy boots followed up, causing Percy to stumble, wings flickering, slowly dissolving.

Ryan may have released Will when Will asked to be put down (he wasn't holding people hostage damnit) but didn't plan on letting Will go too far. Not with Lydia inside him. "Fine. I'll back you up." He promised Will as he charged right behind him. He saw Will land a lovely one-two combination on Percy, slamming the brunette down, and Ryan was right behind him, dropping a knee on Percy's stomach to pin him down with his full weight, which, as Percy might have remembered from a few days ago, was deceptively heavy, due to Ryan's body being mostly metal. "Will, any idea how we snap him out of this? Magic's not my forte!"
Avenger meanwhile watched events, and began to advance towards Will. However, he was still looking in Jack's direction, the true definition of a slasher smile on his face as he watched. "If you all run, I will keep them from following you. I'll grant you that my Master has only asked me to help you. If you want to stay and fight, it will be my pleasure to strike down a few of your enemies on your behalf. But do you have the time to be doing that? The clock is ticking and that girl can't have much time left, can she?" He asked. "If you run, I will deal with your pursuers, if you fight I will kill your enemies." He told Max, still not looking at her. "It's as good a deal as you are going to get right now. Which will it be?"

The sudden piercing of the suit's thruster sent Mr. Stone flying off the pod and spiraling away. Undeterred, he righted himself with relative ease, distributing power to the remaining engines. He then sent the PathEngine on a collision course with Proteus II, slamming down on top of it with impeccable force and clinging to it once more, keeping the thrusters burning as he tried to yank the pod off of the esophageal wall.
---------------------------
Oh, that's me. I'm using a telepathic bond spell. If you can take over Percy's body, is there a chance you'll be freed from-?
Rio jumped back a few feet in shock when Will suddenly slammed into Percy full-force, delivering two sharp blows to the possessed young man. "FRIG!!!"
"WILL, WHAT THE HELL?!" Max seemed more startled than angered by the show of physical aggression. She locked up in place, unable to decide whether she should intervene or not. Sure, it was evident that Percy was not in his right mind, but this seemed particularly extreme, especially now that he had shifted out of his bestial form. Would this snap him back to reality or just make him worse? It was hard to tell.
"Wait, stop!" Rio held his hands up, gesturing frantically yet meticulously in the typical fashion of a mage at work. "He's been hypnotized! I-I'm trying to...!" Then he stared at his hands, bewildered by the lack of effect, suddenly feeling incredibly drained. "W-Why can't I...?!"
Max nervously glanced between Will, Ryan, Percy and Rio in front of her, and Jack and Dr. Michaels behind her. She saw Cat and Mickey approaching in her peripheral. Once again, they were practically surrounded, and it was difficult to discern who was with them or against them. She still wasn't keen to simply run away when the chances of being tailed were still plausible, but Avenger had a point. Time was running out for Lydia. Max was firmly determined to end this now, and by God, she was going to see that through.
"You wanna help?" she firmly asked Avenger. "Make sure those two furry numbskulls don't get in our way."
Max turned her attention to the psychic battle Jack and Dr. Michaels were engaged in. She kept her mind as clear as possible as she aimed her plasma rifle, firing at the diminutive doctor without a second thought or the slightest hesitation.

"UNFF-!!!" Lydia jolted as the pod shook from the impact, leaving her momentarily stunned. Once she shook herself off, she looked out the window to see Mr. Stone attempting to rip the pod from its perch. The world around her shook as Will jumped into action, and between his rapid movements and the cyborg's intense pull, the hooks that kept Proteus II secured to the esophagus were threatening to come loose.
"Oh yeah! You're asking for it, pal!"
Lydia extended two of the pod's arms, driving them directly into the PathEngine's thrusters. Sparks flew from the exhausts until finally they exploded, sending the suit tumbling off the pod once again.
---------------------------
"Hahah... Chump." Cat leaned against her gun and nodded smugly as she watched Liderc fly away. "Next time he messes with us, I'll give him a taste of the gravity reverser!"
Content with the progress made so far, she whipped Goldenhand back out, leaped off the camper van and over the gorge, and rejoined her filthy-minded accomplice. "That's the thanks I get for saving your chops, Mick? You're darn lucky you're cute! Now let's go before our pay day gets away again!"
---------------------------
Dr. Michaels was straining. A high-pitch growl wheezed through her teeth. She maintained her focus on Jack's mind, fighting to tighten her psychic hold on him and crush him from the inside out, but the infernal phoenix's defenses were much stronger than she had anticipated, and the psychic damage he transmitted back to her was just as formidable.
"You don't know what you're doing, Mr. Wexler!" she howled through the mental and physical agony. "You're only making yourself a bigger target! If you kill me, the spectres will come after you! All of you!!!"
Horrific images weaved into her painful psychic transmission, filling Jack's head with visions of ghoulish shadows, writhing black tendrils, a distant city cloaked in darkness... No... Void City cloaked in darkness...
And yet Dr. Michaels's own torment only intensified, she screamed and choked as she felt her insides be set ablaze, blood streaming down her face, veins pulsating in her forehead, spasms wracking her body as she tried desperately to put the intern in his place.
Then, with her mind focused solely on Jack, Dr. Michaels was completely blindsided by a round from one of her own guns, knocking her to the ground in a burning, concussive burst of white hot plasma.

"Hey now! I'm not cute! I'm adorable! Got it?!" Mickey teased as he raced alongside Cat. "But yeah, can't sit out of the action for long!"
---------------------------
Jack panted wildly, overwhelmed with both mental strain and crippling fear as he looked into the dark visions Dr. Michaels instilled within him. Spectres... just like Wendell. The monster who led Dr. Michaels down this path to begin with. There were more of them. She knew what they were. She knew what Sentinels were. His body felt limp beneath the crushing psychic grip and the implications she was alluding to.
There was so much that didn't make sense to him now. So much that Dr. Michaels seemed to know. So much that could occur because of her.
And yet... he didn't care. All that mattered was that this woman had put Lydia in danger. Whatever came in the near future meant nothing to Jack if Lydia wouldn't be there to see it through with him.
"Let them come! I'll be waiting!!!"
