Physical Description
Katsuo, in many respects, resembles a large, bipedal Japanese weasel. He has a long, slender body with short legs, claws, a bushy tail, bright red eyes, and a nick in his right ear. His fur is a dark auburn with patches of dark brown on his face and tan along his muzzle and belly.
Weapons and Accessories
When he isn't simply relying on his latent abilities, Katsuo's weapon of choice is his scythe, sporting a decorative blade, green trim, and the kanji symbol for kaze (wind) emblazoned on the blade in green. He can channel both yoki and wind through the scythe, increasing its damage output and allowing him to create gales and whirlwinds with specific motions.
Abilities/Powers
Speed is Katsuo's defining trait. He can accelerate from zero to a hundred in less than a second, and at his fastest, he's practically invisible. With his speed comes impeccable control over his tailwinds; he can fly, create anything from powerful gales to small tornadoes, and shape the wind into razors whenever he is in motion. He can morph his hands and feet into sickle-like blades and supercharge his razor winds with yoki for massive damage. Add to that his enhanced senses, reflexes, stealth, and predator instinct.
Weaknesses
Being an archetypal fragile speedster, what he has in terms of movement and power, he lacks in durability, thus his fighting style relies on hit-and-run tactics to avoid retaliation. If he does take a hit, he goes down fairly easily. Also, without his scythe, his wind powers rely entirely on rapid, full-body movement; he can't just bend the breeze with a wave of his arm.
Skills
Katsuo prides himself on his combat capabilities. He's the reigning champion of multiple tournaments and can easily hold his own against opponents many times his size. Along with his natural abilities and his aptitude with a scythe or sword, he's also highly skilled in several martial arts techniques including jujutsu, judo, and aikido.
Personality
Katsuo is a braggart through and through. He loves being the center of attention and doesn't take kindly to any shots at his ego. It doesn't matter if your insult towards him was intentional or not; he doesn't forgive easily. He constantly strives to be the very best, and to his credit, he does so pretty fairly. Sure, his hit-and-run tactics may be considered cheap to some, but he's no cheater, and he frowns upon deception and theft as a means of attaining power. Despite his massive pride, Katsuo can see the benefit in cooperation and isn't afraid to ask for help, as long as it's made clear that he's in charge. He's an honest yokai, often bluntly and impolitely so, but the only lie he's ever told is that he'd rather be respected than liked.
History
Born and raised in Bonsai Village, Katsuo was often teased by other yokai for his small, frail size and timid nature. As he grew up, he began training and honing his abilities –aided only by his best friend and eventual housemate Benjiro– until he grew strong enough to challenge his tormentors to combat, beating them all in quick succession. Since then, Katsuo became obsessed with victory and the thrill of the fight. He continued to increase his skills and went on to compete in any subsequent combat tournament that the village hosted, winning all but one. To this day, the only person that he has lost a fight with is Souta the spider yokai, from whom he received the nick on his ear, his only injury. This loss quickly spurred an intense hatred and rivalry within the weasel.
Aside from his constant training and the occasional tournament, Katsuo has lived a fairly simple life, enjoying his status as a local celebrity and sharing his stories with the public. Then came the announcement of the Arakawa Battle Royale, a tag-team tournament commemorating the centennial of the passing of two of Bonsai Village's most famous heroes. Katsuo naturally flocked to this challenge and began his pursuit of a partner, a search that would lead him to the human who would change his life forever...
