Warning: Fiora’s role in Xenoblade Chronicles is full of spoilers, so much so that it would be impossible to go through her history without most of it being blacked out. As such, there will not be any spoilers marked. Proceed with caution.
Full Name: Fiora
Nickname(s): N/A
Age: 18
Height: 5’3”
Weight: Unknown, but fairly light.
Gender: Female
Race: Homs
Alliance: Heroic
Home: Colony 9, Bionis’ Right Calf
Franchise: Xenoblade
Physical Description
Fiora has a fairly average stature, rounded green eyes, and mildly tanned skin. Her typical outfit is a bit difficult to explain in words, however, so look at the attached picture for reference. While she has a petite frame, she’s fairly physically fit.
Weapons and Accessories
Fiora’s preferred weapons are dual knives; while her direct damage isn’t quite as high as Shulk’s, she can attack far more rapidly than he can, and the light blades put her nimble fighting style to good use.
Abilities/Powers
Fiora doesn’t have much in the way of special powers. She does however have several Arts she can use in combat. A good chunk of Fiora’s arts were tied to her state later in the adventure in her home world, and as such she doesn’t have access to them as of right now; she does still have her original Arts plus a few extra new ones (because she only has four simple ones plus her Talent Art without them)
Power Smash: A Red Art. Fiora smashes her blades into an enemy, doing extra damage from striking their back.
Lacerate: A straightforward Red Art. Fiora slashes upwards, afflicting her target with Bleed
Screw Edge: A Pink Art. Fiora strikes an enemy, afflicting Break on them.
Hidden Thorn: A Yellow Art. Fiora bashes an enemy in the head, Dazing them if they’ve been afflicted with Topple.
Her Talent Art, Butterfly Step, is fairly straightforward, but effective. Fiora builds up power by striking enemies, and when the Talent Gauge is full, she can use Butterfly Step to do a quick four-hit combo, dealing heavy damage and knocking her target back.
The next few Arts are not original from the game, but are based off of Fiora’s appearance as a DLC Blade in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to fill out her moveset a bit more.
Hidden Aid: A Blue Art. Fiora tosses an ally an Ether-infused potion, giving them a small-to-medium dose of healing; relatively low cooldown (as the Ether needs to infuse into the potion over time); if used after Hidden Thorn, she throws two potions to her target.
Courageous Stance: An Orange Art. Fiora channels her courage into an Aura that makes her Tension increase rapidly, reducing her Arts cooldowns by a small amount each time she takes a hit or dodges an attack. Fiora takes increased damage with this Aura active.
Valkyrie’s Valor: An Orange Art. Fiora unleashes an Aura that increases her Critical Hit rate and gives her a Critical Drain effect, healing her a bit with each critical hit she lands, increased at lower health.
Energy Eruption: A Purple Art. Only usable while Fiora has an Aura active, Fiora punches the ground, erupting a wave of Ether around her. Enemies hit have a chance of being afflicted with Agility Down.
Weaknesses
Fiora, despite her agility and surprising strength, is fairly frail; in combat, she relies more on not taking hits than enduring them. Personality-wise, while she is very strong-willed and is usually fairly cautious, when pushed, she can be quite reckless and often acts without thinking of how other people will feel about her actions.
Skills
Fiora has a bit of mechanical knowledge thanks to all the time she’s spent with Shulk. She’s also a fairly skilled cook, good enough that even Shulk with his lack of a sense of taste can tell the difference with what she’s made.
Personality
Fiora is a generally sweet young woman, though she also falls under the ‘takes no shit from anyone’ label. She’s very strong-willed and is not afraid to put herself on the line to help her friends.
She isn’t fond of spicy or really sour foods, preferring sweet food instead; some of her other favorite things in her world are things with rather ominous-sounding names, like the Blood Worm (which wiggles rather cutely), the Delirium Foxglove (which has beautiful black petals) and the Fatal Belladonna (which despite the name and implications looks like a fairy at play), emphasizing her fondness for cute things.
History
Fiora spent much of her life in Colony 9, friends with Shulk and Reyn from early childhood. On the day that the Mechon attacked and her brother Dunban was injured from overuse of the Monado at the Battle of Sword Valley, Fiora made a promise to herself that she’d do everything she could to help the people of her home.
She got the opportunity a year later; when she traveled with Reyn and Shulk to get Ether Canisters to recharge the colony’s Mobile Artillery Unit, the three returned to their home under attack. When they went to Shulk’s lab, where they were sure Dunban had gone to get the Monado, Fiora was separated from Shulk and Reyn; as they, joined by Dunban, fought their way to the Residential District of the Colony, they battled against a dark-colored Mechon with a face. Unable to damage it even with the Monado, they seemed doomed… until Fiora intervened, operating the Mobile Artillery and blasting the Faced Mechon with its cannon.
Unfortunately for Fiora, her efforts had little use, and despite Shulk’s vision of the future, he was unable to stop Fiora getting stabbed by Metal Face’s claws; her Artillery was tossed aside, and Fiora herself was taken by the Mechon, believed dead.
She was not, in fact, dead. When she was taken to Mechonis, she was given a machine body to replace her damaged organs, and subjected to brainwashing by Egil, the leader of the Mechon, being put into a Face Mechon of her own, Face Nemesis. She battled against Shulk and his friends a few times before her consciousness was able to overcome the brainwashing. She destroyed a good part of the fortress where they were fighting, separating the group, and she and Shulk had their reunion on a beachfront on the Mechonis’ Fallen Arm. Shortly after that, Fiora rejoined Shulk and co. on their journey, putting her Mechon body to good use.
Fiora had a secondary consciousness implanted within her by Egil’s sister Vanea; Meyneth, the soul of Mechonis. In trying to help Meyneth stop Zanza, the soul of Bionis, Meyneth ended up being destroyed by Zanza; as Meyneth was the main thing keeping Fiora’s mechanical body functioning, she was on borrowed time; she did her best to keep it a secret so the others could focus on stopping the mad god.
Fortunately, thanks to some helpful information from an ally of theirs, Shulk learned of the existence of an ancient regeneration chamber; thanks to a vision of his plus help from their friend Melia, they were able to discover the chamber, hidden within a ruin on the cliff overlooking Colony 9, where they’d gotten the Ether Cylinders so long ago. As it would take six months for Fiora to get her original body back, she chose to wait until after Zanza was defeated to do so, wanting to help however she could.
When Zanza was defeated, Shulk used his newfound power to create a new world so the residents of the dying Bionis and destroyed Mechonis had somewhere to live. Fiora spent half a year in the chamber, leaving to see the new world they’d built with her own eyes for the first time.
Things were peaceful for a time; Shulk had gone traveling with Melia to aid her with something she needed, and after Melia’s coronation shortly afterward, Fiora’s life with Shulk was fairly straightforward. Not long after Shulk had gone to inspect an odd ether reading (which lead to him being pulled through a rift to the Island unbeknownst to her), Fiora went to give him some aid when he took a while returning… and found herself pulled through a different odd rift.
Other
As story-based things happen, I intend for Fiora to get more combat options, and they’ll be added here when they become available.
