Mario walked dashed through the dense jungle of Shy Island. He'd never been here before and he was filled with excitement, ready to explore the unknown as usual. He jumped past the treeline and landed in an empty field, filled with tree stumps.
"Huh?" Mario stared out at the barren land ", What happened here?"

"Awful, ain't it?" A voice sighed as the sound of wings flapped against the wind. Pit landed next to Mario. "Sorry I picked such a place to meet you, the brochure said it looked a lot better than this... wonder what happened?"

"Wah!" Mario jumped back in surprise ", Whoa! Pit! Don't scare me like that! When did you get here?"

"A little before you did," Pit replied. "Didn't mean to spook you, but I heard you were in the area. I've been looking for you ever since I got on the island." He brought out the letter Mario had sent him. "I got your note and figured you'd need help with the whole Dark Incests fiasco."

"Oh, right," Mario looked over the note ", I'm glad you could come too, but I'm not sure what this is." Mario pointed out to all the chopped down trees ". This couldn't be the work of dark insects, the stumps are cut as if by chainsaw, not as if they were eaten by something."
Just then Mario noticed something strange. A shy guy walked through the field of stumps. There were still a few trees left standing that were scattered about and the shy guy approached one. He pulled out a chainsaw and prepared himself to cut.

"Hey, you!" Pit called out angrily to the Shy Guy. "Get away from that tree! Haven't you cut down enough!?"

The shy guy just glared at Pit and continued with what he was doing.
"Stubborn little..." Mario marched towards the shy guy angrily. The shy guy looked over again to see Mario with his hammer ready, he quickly ran off. "Coward..."

"...huh." Pit watched him flee. "Shy Guys? I know this is their island, but if they wanted fuel that badly, wouldn't they have cleared out the island of trees a long time ago?"

Mario looked over where a few more shy guys marched out of the woods being lead by none other than General Guy.
"I don't think these shy guys are native," Mario replied ", You see that white one? That's General Guy, he works under Bowser."

"Ohhhh... got it," Pit nodded. "..wierd. What're they doing here?"

"Not sure exactly, but I think we should find out before it gets much worse," Mario beckoned for Pit to follow as he ran off towards the woods where General Guy came from.
Meanwhile in the woods they were going towards, a cry for help could be heard.
"Huh?"

"Coming!" Pit followed, but then braked at the cry. "Huh? Who's that?"

"Not sure, sounded very familiar though," Mario replied ", We should hurry."
Mario ran off into the woods with Pit. After a bit of running through the trees, they found a clearing, where a large wooden fortress wall stood. The cry for help came from inside it.
"This is a problem..." Mario scratched his head as he thought of a way through.

"HANG ON, WE'RE COMING!" Pit called out to the voice, than looked around. "There's gotta be a switch or something somewhere...."

The gate started to open slowly and Mario grabbed Pit by the arm and hid in a nearby bush. Some shy guys marched out of the gate.
"I think we found our opening," Mario pointed out as all the shy guys had passed ", C'mon! Let's hurry before the gate closes!" Mario jumped up and booked it towards the gate.
