Adachi gaped at Bakura for a moment. The kid actually wanted him to throw him into the other side because he thought it would separate him from Anpu. Okay, yeah, it would be nice for Anpu to be separate from Bakura, but...
"Ryou-kun, you don't understand. The other side is almost impossible to escape from. If I tossed you in, I don't think I could get you out again," Adachi said. "As far as I know, the only way to get out is through that bear's help, and I don't know if he'll even help considering it's me. And plus, you might die on the other side."
Bakura had a point. The easiest way to get rid of Anpu might be to push the two of them in. But Adachi didn't want to do that. Especially in case it went wrong, and Bakura ended up dead, either because he didn't accept his shadow, or because the fog came and Seta's group didn't know about it.

This response, even though it was short, took longer to arrive than the others had.

Bakura didn't break his gaze with Adachi as his jaw hung slack. The white haired teenager suspected he knew why Adachi was shocked. Anpu was paying very close attention. To the point that Bakura could feel the spirit presence standing behind the couch and watching Adachi with him. Then Adachi spoke. Anpu smirked and looked at Bakura for a response.
Bakura looked pained and hung his head. It wasn't that big of a surprise. Adachi had said he'd kill Anpu if Bakura wasn't there. The conversation had moved away from that topic, but it had been there. The teenager thought for a few moments and then looked back up at Adachi. His expression was still grave.
"Adachi-san, I have a question. Is it considered illegal to shoot a criminal if one puts someone's life in danger on the job?"
Anpu turned back to Adachi. He knew where Bakura was going with it. The Thief King had to admit his host could be rather shrewd at putting facts together when he had to. He was operating on the correct according to Adachi assumption that murders like that could be pulled off with no evidence. There was also the fact that he might be caught. In that end, Bakura was seeing if killing to protect others was accetable for a cop. No, confirming it. His host was going to repeat his request if it was confirmed, he was sure of it.

Yuugi had been staring at the COMP for the last few minutes. His expression had becomed worried. If K1 as he seemed to be now had caught him talking, Atsuro could be in trouble. Atem looked lost in thought as Yuugi waited. He was wrestling with his own internal problems at the moment. Both he and Yuugi jumped as the COMP beeped. He turned towards his Partner as he began inputting a response.
"Partner..."
Yuugi hit send and looked up. He blinked as he saw Atem staring at him, "Um... what?"
Atem closed his eyes and turned away as he stood up, "Nevermind."
"Atem, if something is wrong you should tell me!"
The former Pharaoh stopped. He looked at Yuugi again. Telling him would just make Yuugi feel awkward. And the fatalistic attitude he had towards it really wasn't good. It was like he didn't really believe The Fall could be stopped. Yuugi seemed clueless as well. Either that or his Partner was staying quiet to avoid hurting his feelings. They seemed to be doing that a lot towards each other lately, really. The only person he tried to spare the feelings of this much really was Yuugi.

Adachi gaped a bit more at Bakura.
"Well, no, it's not... I mean... Ryou, you can't seriously be asking me to do this!" Adachi exclaimed. "I don't want you to get hurt like that, and you will if you fall into the other side. Maybe if I could get the Ring away from you, I'd toss it in, but I'm not going to toss it in with you still attached to it!"
Adachi's mind was going a billion different directions at this point. If he tossed Bakura in, he might not be able to get him out. Or maybe they'd find out Bakura had been pushed in, through the Midnight Channel. Bakura might get attacked by a Shadow. Or maybe he'd get rescued, but then Seta might focus his hatred on him. Think that he'd been trying to kill Bakura, which was the last thing he wanted to do.
He'd told Anpu he'd kill Bakura if he had to in order to get rid of him. But that was his last resort. He didn't want to put Bakura in danger like that. Damn kid.

"And I don't want anyone else to die!" Bakura said, his voice wavering a bit, "Anpu already killed someone! You know, don't you? And not just anyone, but a little kid! And he's going to go after Yuugi-kun next! I'm not asking you to put me in a position to die, but what if that's the only option! The Ring doesn't like letting go, Adachi-san! What if it's the only option! I don't want to die, but what if it's the only option!?"
Bakura had stood up at some point during his yelling. His eyes were wet again. He didn't want to die. He didn't know what that world Adachi had brought up was like or even how Adachi knew about it. But if it could seperate him from Anpu, maybe Anpu could die. Adachi didn't know this, but he'd sacrificed himself before. Literally, as twice he was sure he was going to die. That Monster World RPG he'd loved that the original spirit had tried to use to trap his friends' souls. That card game he'd used in a similar fashion. He was probably being optimistic thinking this would work, but he was sure Yuugi would die if something wasn't done soon. And that Yuugi would be Anpu's last dead victim.
"...I'm sorry, it's not fair to ask," Bakura finally said, looking away from both the couch and Adachi.
----------
By the time Atsuro's message had returned, the COMP was on the floor. Atem had looked at Yuugi for a few more moments, going over the options in his head. It could make things awkward. He wanted to respect Yuugi's wish that they move slow. Then again, Yuugi had never said he wanted to. His Partner had already shocked him by not being bothered by the sleeping arrangements. The Fall was looming over their heads, they didn't have time. They probably wouldn't know if they could stop it until the final moment, and by then it had been too late.
Yuugi had been holding the COMP when Atem moved forward. His eyes widened as the former Pharaoh closed a lot more distance than he expected. He hadn't expected Atem to move, to be honest. Let alone to the point of eliminating the distance between them. His eyes were saucers when Atem's lips hit his, the fingers of the taller tanned teenager's right hand lacing with his own left. That was when the COMP had hit the floor, from pure shock.
Atem would find himself being pushed away. He pulled back with little force. When he saw Yuugi's face he felt terrible. Yuugi looked something like horrified. Shit. He'd moved too fast. The worst part was that he'd known it was too fast. Yuugi was staring at him, and the horror faded to uncomfortable shock. He stood up and hung there for a few moments without looking at Atem. The COMP beeped as Yuugi looked back up.
"I'll take the bed tonight," his somewhat hoarse voice only made Atem worse. As did his leaving the room and shutting the door behind himself. At least it didn't slam.
Atem sat down and pushed his fingers through his thick hair. Well damn. He should have asked first. Now Yuugi was... something. He didn't think his Partner was pissed, per se, but he sure was shocked. Well, that was one thought frame concerned. He had to take it slow. And a lot slower now that he'd pulled that stunt. He worried it was slower than a month would allow. He caught flashing out of the corner of his eye and noticed the COMP. He leaned over and picked it up, scanning over the message before closing it and putting it to sleep. Maybe it would be better to let Yuugi go to the Mall alone tomorrow.
He'd really blown it. That was for sure if nothing else was.

Adachi sighed and looked down at the floor again. "...It's fine. I'll... I'll try to do something. Go get to bed, it's late."
Yeah, it was late. Really late. He didn't know if Bakura was awake during that weird, creepy time between one day and the next, but he didn't want Bakura to be awake to find out. At least Adachi was pretty sure he hadn't gone insane. A couple of the guys on the force were awake during that time too.
He looked down at his still bruised chest, and started buttoning his shirt back up, if only to distract him from the current situation. Dammit. Just goddammit.

Bakura didn't say anything. The only indication the teenager had heard Adachi was that he began to walk towards the bedroom. And that could have been passed off as timing. He had heard Adachi, but there was nothing he could say. He was serious, but it really wasn't fair to ask someone to do that. Anpu had gone back to a observer rather than a full out spirit presence.
The white haired teenager collapsed on the bed. Anpu said something, but he was ignoring him. It had been a taunt, and he wasn't in any kind of mood to react. He closed his eyes, wondering if his body would stay in the bed the whole night. If Anpu decided to go for a midnight stroll, he wouldn't have to be aware of it. Anpu had left the Apartment that morning without waking him, after all.
He would be asleep in minutes, if it took that long. He was so torn right now. Live and let Anpu live. Die so Anpu would die. Leave Adachi and the building Yuugi-tachi were in. Stay and put them all at risk. Yuugi was in danger either way, and it was all a plot to kill Atem in the long run. He wondered what motivation Anpu had for his actions, but he was not in the mood to chat with him. It had to be karma. He was stuck in this situation because his soul had been a monster in its past life. And now it was doing it in his current life. He sighed. Dammit.
----------
Yuugi was on the bed. His back was to the headboard and he was in the center of the bed. His legs were pulled up close. It had been five minutes, and his mind was still trying to process what had just happened. Atem had kissed him. To be honest, he wasn't sure it wouldn't have gone further had he let it. He looked towards the closed door. Was that what had been wrong? He'd asked Atem and the former Pharaoh had told him nevermind and he had pushed it and than he'd been kissed. So it was a logical step of events. Did Atem really want to go that fast?
He hugged his legs closer. Maybe he was old fashioned, but he had no intentions of going that far that fast. Hell, they hadn't even dated. Even if you took out the issue of genders, you weren't supposed to go that fast in a real relationship. He liked Atem, he could say that in his head now, but... Yuugi's head was swimming so fast. There wasn't anyone he could ask for advice, either.
Bakura had his own issues, Kaiba would just... no, that wasn't even an option. Souji would probably tease them. He wouldn't mean harm by it, but that seemed to be Souji's way to diffuse the situation. Kanji's mind broke at the concept, Naoto was too analytical. Ryoji had a similar personal hell to Bakura. Minato might work, but he had the feeling the teenager would have pulled something like Atem did. Wrong side of the fence to be asking. Atsuro's mind broke over it, K1 was hardly human, Naoya was less of an option than Kaiba, and the same went for Kaido. What the hell was he supposed to do?
Yuugi would be stuck with those thoughts for a good hour before he finally fell asleep. The most prominent were similar to what Atem had been thinking. They had a month on the outside for guarantee. Beyond that, who knew? However, Yuugi thought there was more to a relationship than that. Did he really have interest in going that far, even with the risk of never being able to if he didn't? This was a horrid situation. He didn't want to do it because he was cornered into doing so.
"Atem..." he found himself muttering. The one person he could talk to about this kind of thing was the source of the problem. It really sucked. A lot.
