A clattering sound was heard in the kitchen when Mr. Copycat said shapeshifters. Momoko stuck her bleeding finger into her mouth and hoped the conversation would continue despite the interupption. Looks like he had decided to go ahead with it. She still held her opinion, but the odds were that Mr. Copycat had been doing things this way for a while.
As she worked on finishing the sandwich with her burnt arm, which was a hassle to say the least, she continued to listen in. It wasn't a bad cut on her finger, so it would stop bleeding soon enough. She'd need to run that knife under hot soapy water though.

Mr. Copycat looked up at the clatter, and then turned back to Aria. "Yes, while it is true they can do that, there is more to a shapeshifter, or rather, a doppelganger, than you think. Doppelgangers are pan-dimensional creatures that can shapeshift into anyone, and even perfectly copy their memories. They're very dangerous."
He laughed. "You're probably wondering why I'm telling you this, correct?"

Hmm, so they can even copy memories? Could they also copy abilities, habits, voice, voice tone, and even abnormal abilities? "Well in honesty yes I am, but I think you're going to tell me anyway." Aria says there patiently waiting for Mr. copycat to continue.

Water could be heard running for a second before Momoko came out of the kitchen, a sandwich with hand. The very observant would have noticed she didn't turn the handle but merely pushed the door open. The most noticable part was that Momoko's shy stance had very much changed. Her eyes were narrower, and a fair bit darker. The way she moved was more confident and she didn't bother fussing with her skirt as she sat down across from the couch that Cody and Mr. Copycat were sitting.
She let the sandwich lay in her lap, although the small cut in her finger could be seen at her angle. She knew Aria might be raising an eyebrow at the personality shift, but Mr. Copycat was likely about to explain the situation. There was no need to keep up Momoko's personality. She didn't, however, say anything.

Mr. Copycat turned his head to look at Momoko, then turned back to face Aria. "The fact is, there's only two things they can't change. Their scent, and their aura. It's not something normal people can sense, though, but those who can sense that are considered rather dangerous to doppelgangers. Some of them have an allergy to the presence of these people, who doppelgangers call canaries, after the bird."
Cody was looking rather nervous now.

If this is true then, someone like her can tell if it's a fake or not, by their scent and/or aura. This seems to be a major weakness to those with keen senses. Momoko came back as well, but her outward appearance seemed different from before. Aria could only take an educated guess on this one. Seeing as another friend of hers seems to have it too, but he will need to know for certain before confirming it. "Continue," was all she said afterwards.

"And don't think your nose will be all that useful, wolf or not. Most doppelgangers have a preferred form, and they can take it from any world. If you don't know it, you'd associate that appearance with the smell. It might make things easier, but by no means safe," Momoko interjected.
The tone of voice matched the new way she held her self. It was far more serious, much more confident, and a bit darker.

Mr. Copycat nodded. "However, the Doppelgangers won't really care about this. As far as they can tell, canaries like you are the most dangerous thing to their survival and the progression of their subjugation of the multiverse. Because of this, they seek to destroy any canaries they can.
"They're a cruel species. If another doppelganger becomes hurt enough to the point where they can't shift convincingly anymore, the defective doppelganger is just... 'fired'. I say that in the most literal sense possible. It's the main reason several doppelgangers have deserted after becoming defective." He sighed. "Like myself. Though I was always defective."
He paused and waited for Aria's response after this revelation.

Aria smirked, when Momoko interjected. "Don't mistake me for someone who easily trusts others, or gullible. In fact, I don't completely trust you guys." Her expression also turned more serious as well, but just for that moment. After which Copycat continued what he was saying. So they are fired if they are no longer useful? That's not really what Aria would call cruel, but she knows there is probably more to it. "So you were one of these Doppelgangers too? Well that's not really surprising. If you aren't useful, you will be "fired". At least that's how it is where I come from."

Momoko glared, "You clearly did not hear Mr. Copycat say literal. Let me spell it out for you. Fired, in this context, means burned alive," she was scowling, "I highly doubt your world uses the term in the same context. And don't think its simply being burned alive, either. They have ways of prolonging it, and torture is very common."
It's attitudes like yours that make me still hate most sentients. Ungrateful. Mr. Copycat was trying to do you a favor, trying to protect you... I won't shed a tear when they kill you, were the thoughts running through the girl's mind. Her glare intensified as it occured. This feeling was almost soothing. The hatred was familiar, a wonderful contrast to the annoying feelings of a concscience she had been feeling earlier.
Mr. Copycat had decided to reveal them, she saw no need to hold back. She probably would have been more intimidating had her right arm not been so badly scarred, down to the two missing fingers. If Aria recognized the apperance of injuries and scarring caused by burning, it was entirely possible for her to make a mistake. Thinking that "Momoko" had escaped a firing.
The poor sandwich Momoko had made had been considerably flattened between the fingers of her good hand. She wasn't even aware of the way she was crushing the food, even though technically the cut finger should have been sending signals of pain. Her eyes had a dangerous glint to them...

Mr. Copycat nodded. "What Momoko said is correct. Many defectives who had deserted did so to escape firing. As for defectives that don't get fired... there's other ways to torture them.
"Doppelgangers can father children with sentients, you see. Recently, researchers have figured out how to turn these half-breed children into full doppelgangers. Children formerly human, who had human emotions," Mr. Copycat said. If one took notice of Cody, or rather, the absense of Cody, as the boy had ran off as this subject had been approached, one could realize Mr. Copycat was speaking from personal experience. "This is the largest form of torture for those defectives still in the organization."
He sighed. "But I got off topic. I just want to warn you to be careful."

Momoko glared at Aria clreary irritated by her remark. Aria also stared, but her expression was more uncaring than Momoko's. Aria rarely ever showed emotions, her profession didn't call for such things. Calmy, she responded. "So you say in this context it is being buried alive, and not just that but severe torture? Is that all? It is worse where I come from, even death were sometimes the result of the torture you say they've experienced. I could care less what kind of methods they use, it doesn't really concern me. " Aria had already took notice of the scars Momoko had, but in reality she could have cared less whether it had been by burning or something else. "Those injuries that you have, whether it be from the "firing" or of some other origin doesn't matter to me." She sighed and returned his attention to Copycat. "But I will thank you for that small piece of information." (Um wow tension build up, and I didn't notice that Literal part, my bad )

Fool. I hope they do get you.
Momoko forcefully stood up, slamming her sandwich down on the table next to her. She glared at the wolf, "If you care that little, feel free to leave. And don't patronize us with your thanks," she stated before turning around and leaving the room. She could have attacked the wolf, but that seemed a little overboard.
It was that nagging voice again. Insisting that things had happened in the wolf's past that made her act this way, and that she shouldn't be judged on them. Momoko altered the thoughts she had earlier. If only that voice were a cricket, she could have it stuffed. Mr. Copycat was probably noticing the darker traits and ego of the doppelganger race as she stomped off. Her mental battle between her original personality and the new one was somewhat visible...
She hadn't noticed where Cody had gone, and ended up storming into the room he was hiding in. She had a rather scary expression, probably not doing Cody's issues any good. Heck, with her luck Repeat would try to bite her.

Mr. Copycat watched as Momoko stormed away before turning back to face Aria. "It is not a good idea to make her angry. She is still adjusting to being defective."
As it was clear that tensions were high, Mr. Copycat went back into the kitchen, and put away his and Cody's sandwiches in the fridge, while bringing Aria her sandwich. He placed the sandwich on the table before sitting down at the couch and turning on the TV. As always, he was checking the news for anything interesting, anything possibly Doppelganger related.
----------------------
Cody flinched when Momoko entered the room, turning around. Repeat started growling at the woman, and barked several times at her. Cody turned back to face the window in the room, and sunk down into his scarf, covering up half his face.

"As if I care how she feels. It has nothing to do with me." Aria had a questionable face when the sandwich was placed in front of her. She picked up the plate, and when Mr. Copycat went to turn the T.V. on she gave it a quick sniff. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, but Aria was always cautious when accepting food, especially if it was from someone she just met. She also watched the television while taking a bite out of the Sanwich. She would rather it have been no cheese, but it didn't matter at this point.
