Kuwabara grunted as Shigemi's counter led to him landing a bit awkwardly on his leg. He quickly righted himself, not wanting to give the other teen an opening. one thing was readily obvious by this point, Shigemi was damn fast. Fast, and he had a switchblade. This wasn't going well for Kuwabara at all.
"Dammit... if I still had my reiki sword, this would already be over." Kuwabara thought to himself, growling. If things kept up the way there were going, he'd be dead. He was aware that, all things considered, he had almost no chance of leaving this confrontation the winner.
But he'd be damned if he was going to lose a coward. He took a brief survey of his environment, getting stock of the situation. It was for but the briefest of seconds that Kuwabara's eyes flicked away. He brought his attention back to Shigemi then, smirking.
"Heh. That was nothing! I've taken Urameshi's punches before, and compared to that, your dinky little knife might as well be a toothpick!" Kuwabara exclaimed, breaking into a run towards Shigemi. He didn't strike an offensive pose, because he wasn't entirely sure how to proceed. He just sort of assumed he'd figure it out once he was in range. It was part of the reason that his retort wasn't exactly his best material.

Shigemi rolled his eyes at Kazuma's bravado. Once again he didn't move as the other teenager rushed him. Not until the last second, and not a single muscled twitched. The corner of his lip moved up in a smirk as Kazuma was less than a step from him, performing whatever idiocy the teenager had decided upon, before he quickly sidestepped, a flash of silver indicating the swipe of his dagger.
It went just close enough for a surface cut, like the attack on Kazuma's ankle had gone. This time it was directly under the other teenager's left eye, a long slice that went along his entire cheekbone and ended just short of his nose. The action had switched their positions in the alley. Shigemi would have enough time to give his blade a dull look and roll his eyes again as Kazuma recovered.
"All brawns and no brains, I see?"

When Kuwabara began his rush, he had actually angled himself in the direction of the closest wall to the other teenager. So, when Shigemi made his cut and dodge, Kuwabara had indeed been put off-balance. But he didn't slow down to recover, instead keeping his momentum. This lead to him falling forward, thrusting his palms out as he had when he'd attempted to kick Shigemi earlier.
However, instead of thrusting himself back in the direction of Shigemi as he had last time he'd done this form of recover, he went into a flip of sorts, his feet landing on the wall. Then, as Shigemi finished his taunt, and just before gravity had a chance to wrap its fingers around him, he thrust off, pushing his shoulder forward towards Shigemi. He angled himself in such a way that if his shoulder thrust missed, he would hopefully be able to land a right hook. Dodging wouldn't be impossible, especially with the other's speed, but it would be more difficult than before.
If the other attempted to cut him, Kuwabara planned on making a grab for his switchblade. It would likely prove ineffective, but he had to try.

If Shigemi looked half as bored as he was beginning to feel with this fight, he figured he must have looked half asleep to the other teenager. He performed his usual tactic of waiting for the last minute to dodge, flicking his body to the side without even moving his feet to avoid the shoulder thrust... and receiving a right hook in his face for the effort.
His knife had been up as well, although the angle was such that if Kuwabara attempted to grab it he'd slice his own hand for his efforts. If not, it would land on the ground beside Shigemi... who was pretty much taken off his feet and launched backwards by the force of Kuwabara's blow. He landed with a painful sounding thud about five feet back. He got up fairly quickly, and wiped at the blood trickling from down the left of his mouth with right hand, spitting a bit of blood and a lone tooth out afterwards.
He was staring daggers at Kuwabara, "Not many people can hit me..."

Kuwabara had avoided the urge to attempt grabbing Shigemi's knife. Not because he was aware that his hand would have been sliced, but rather because he didn't perceive it being up as an attempt at an attack. Also because, to be completely honest, he was fairly surprised that he'd managed to hit Shigemi. So he'd frozen up somewhat for a brief second after his fist connected with the other's face. He quickly shook himself to his senses, taking up an offensive pose as the other teen got up and wiped at the blood trickling down from the left of his mouth.
As Shigemi made his statement, Kuwabara was already in motion. Based on his reaction, getting another hit would be nearly impossible if he lost his momentum. Even with his momentum, Kazuma expected it to be nigh-impossible. So as soon as he'd managed to shake himself to his senses and strike his offensive pose, he was thrusting his knee forward, aiming for Shigemi's abdomen.

(OOC: Godmoding done with permission) Shigemi was already moving as Kuwabara ran at him, an impressively quick roll to the side. He managed to recover his knife in the roll and in the motion of getting to his feet he'd managed to reach out the blade towards Kuwabara's right leg, giving a slash deeper than the previous too on the back of his lower leg. It wouldn't be enough to effect Kuwabara's ability too much, especially given the adrenaline, but he wouldn't miss it.
The older teenager was back on his feet by this point. The entire action had been one swift movement, a successful dodge, attack, and rise to his feet. And he wasn't done yet. He swung forward with his right arm, the one not holding the knife, aiming to land a punch anywhere he could hit on the other teenager. The face was preferred, but he could adjust if Kazuma acted quickly. The contact would be made with the tips of his spiked brass knuckles, but the force wouldn't be enough to break bone. Skin, on the other hand? Yeah, it'd be a fairly bloody punch if it connected.

(OOC: Godmodding done with Mugen-ified seal of approval) Kuwabara was taken by surprise as the older teenager made his swift dodge, attack, and rise to his feet. Due to his surprise, he was fairly disoriented when Shigemi threw his punch. Therefore, he wasn't exactly able to deduce which direction was best to dodge in, though it was unlikely he would have been even if he had his wits about him. Thus, the fashion in which he attempted to dodge meant Shigemi's punch hit Kuwa's abdomen.
However, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, the younger teen held his ground, locking his left arm around the older teen's right. Due to the fact that he didn't fall with the blow, as would have been perhaps the smarter tactic, the hit was a fair bit more bloody than it perhaps normally would have been. In fact, it felt like a few of his ribs were bruised. Not broken, but at least bruised.
In any case, upon locking his left arm around Shigemi's right, he thrust his right fist forward, aiming for the other's abdomen. He would have preferred a hit towards Shigemi's face, but he realised that it would have been far less likely to land successfully, even at such close quarters.

Shigemi shot a glare at Kuwabara as the older teenager managed to lock his arm, and the dagger was already moving, being kept in his left hand. As Kuwabara shot forward with his punch, Shigemi stabbed forward with the knife. The two hits hit at the same time. Shigemi's eyes widened with the force of the hit and folded over as much as he could with the deathgrip on his knife, which was now lodged in Kuwabara's front right shoulder.
In fact, the combination of Kuwabara's still held grip on Shigemi's right arm and the death grip he had on the dagger was the only thing keeping the older teenager on his feet. He coughed, and the saliva was pink. He wasn't bleeding into his mouth though it was just remnants from the earlier hit. His knees were sagging though. Although... he was laughing? He seemed to be chuckling.
"How about... How about we stop this now and you just join my gang. I really don't want to have to kill you."
Awfully big words when you considered hte position he was in at the moment.

Kuwabara let out a grunt as Shigemi's knife found itself embedded in his shoulder. He steeled his grip on Shigemi's right arm, not wanting to lose his grip. His right shoulder and abdomen were on fire, and he wasn't really sure how much longer he could keep this level of exertion up. He didn't seem it physically, however. He slouched a bit from his bruised ribs, and favoured his uninjured leg slightly, but otherwise, he seemed to be a clean bill of health. Even with his pain, he felt he could go as long as he needed to. No one could say Kuwabara Kazuma was a quitter.
Kuwabara frowned as Shigemi made his offer. Those were pretty big words from a guy who seemed fairly winded from that last hit. Even so, if this kept up, Kuwabara felt they would either end up killing each other, or simultaneously pass out. Neither option was favourable. So, logically speaking, he should have just accepted Shigemi's offer on the spot, joined his gang, and limped out of this. But that wasn't his style. He wasn't about to abandon his friends, nor was he about to submit to another banchou.
Therefore, in response to Shigemi's offer, Kuwabara shifted his weight forward. He brought his knee up, not sure he could even move his right arm without dislodging Shigemi's knife, and it was best to avoid bleeding any more than he already was. He aimed his knee towards Shigemi's chin, but if he had to accommodate he planned on changing his angle in such a fashion that he instead aimed for the elder teen's face.

And Shigemi received his response in the form of an attack on his jaw. On the upside there was enough force to dislodge Shigemi's blade from Kuwabara's shoulder, therefore keeping him in the teenager's grip only by his right arm, which Kuwabara's left was still wrapped around. The crunch when Kuwabara impacted was a pretty good sign he'd at least cracked the older teenager's jaw. The bloodflow coming out of his mouth increased as a result. And yet, he didn't stop chuckling to himself as he drove the dagger through Kuwabara's pants and into the top of his right leg.
Shigemi spit out a mouthful of blood, causing it to land on Kuwabara's upper chest. He looked Kuwabara straight in the eyes and gave a smirk... which came out really weird looking and lopsided due to said broken jaw. If Shigemi was in pain he sure as hell wasn't showing it.
"Strike for a strike, Kazuma? This will end with you dead if you keep it up, and that'd be a waste."
He twisted the knife in Kuwabara's leg to punctuate his comment. He really didn't seem to be bluffing.

Kuwabara growled as Shigemi drove his switchblade into the top of his right leg. Needless to say, it hurt. His entire right leg was on fire by this point, practically screaming at him to just take Shigemi's offer. Everything he said was true. Strike for strike would indeed with Kuwabara dead. He realised this. But still he refused to accept. It went against everything he stood for. He wouldn't be able to look Yuusuke--no, no, not even just Yuusuke. He'd never be able to look Yukina in the eyes again, as a man, if he took this offer. And he'd sooner die than let the day come that was no longer able to call himself a man.
Kuwabara's entire demeanour, his screaming, ranting, all of it... seemed to change at this thought. He calmed down considerably, visibly. Perhaps in spite of this fact, he tightened his grip on Shigemi's arm, ignoring the switchblade embedded in his leg. He stood up, as straight as he could with said dagger's location, looking Shigemi directly in his eyes.
And then he thrust a palm forward and to the left. If Shigemi didn't dodge or somehow stop the younger teen's thrust, he would be pushed back into the nearby wall with a fair amount of force. Following this, if his tactic proved fruitful, Kuwabara would attempt to throw three punches at the other teen. Two towards his face and one towards his chest. This entire time, he would do his best to keep his left arm locked in Shigemi's right.

Shigemi returned the look with a smirk, but then he blinked, as if suddenly surprised. He looked up and frowned for a brief second before glaring. He had his mouth open as if to say something when Kuwabara used his palm to thrust him into the wall. He growled and was getting to his feet with impressive speed despite his injuries when Kuwabara rushed in and proceeded to punch both sides of his face and then hit him in the chest.
The attacks hammered Shigemi against the wall he was backed up against on top of the impacts of the hit... and now he was laughing again. And if Kuwabara stopped for half a second he'd realize...
...Shigemi's wounds were closing up.

Kuwa frowned as Shigemi once more began to laugh. It struck him as odd. Sure, he was without his reiki sword, but he'd always prided himself on his punching power. Even if the fellow was putting on a facade, he still should have been in a fair amount of pain, or even, Kuwa would have hoped, unconscious. Neither of those things seemed to happen. If he was in pain, he wasn't showing it, and--
It was at this point Kuwabara noticed it. he had no idea why he hadn't noticed it earlier, but he'd finally come to a rather shattering realisation. Shigemi's wounds were closing up, very clearly healing. Which meant either he was healing, or something else was healing him. While he admittedly couldn't see yokai in his current state, he wasn't getting that familiar tingle he sometimes got in the presence of such creatures. Which meant he was either far more drained than he thought he was, or there was nothing present. He decided to assume the latter, growling.
"What the hell are you, anyway?!" Kuwabara exclaimed, thrusting his right fist forward. He held on to his belief that there didn't exist a problem he couldn't fix with punches.

Shigemi was cracking his knuckles by balling them into fists as Kuwabara demanded to know what he was. He opened his mouth to respond, but the other teenager's fist was coming right for his face. He quickly sidestepped, grimacing to himself for a moment as he fell back against a different side of the alley. He was breathing heavily and had an arm over his upper chest where Kuwabara had punched him. It was at an odd angle as he massaged his jaw. It was pretty clear the teen was in a respectable amount of pain despite the injuries sealing up.
"What am I?" Shigemi said after a moment. If Kuwabara tried to hit him, he'd keep dodging. On the upside he didn't seem to be inclined to use his knife during what seemed to be a recovery phase, "I'm the leader of the Neo Death Gods, the "New Shinigami" if you will. You know you still have a chance, Kazuma..."
Shigemi spun his knife around in his hand. He seemed to be in a much better position damage wise than before. And now his expression wasn't amused. Simply flat and no nonsense, "But if you deny me again I will kill you."

Kuwabara frowned. He was at a loss here. Quite clearly, he was out of his league. Though he would never admit it, he had been from the start. Either this fellow was a yokai or he was being aided by one. Either way, he was healing, and he had a knife. Whether the knife was the centre of his healing abilities or not wasn't important, because the other fellow was faster. Logically, Kuwabara should have just accepted his offer.
But he didn't. Because he couldn't. He refused to allow himself to submit to another banchou. Especially not the fellow before him. And then Kuwabara smiled.
"Heh. You're right. If this keeps up, you're going to kill me. It'd be stupid of me to keep going, really." Kuwabara laughed at this last bit, a hearty laugh, placing his hands at his waist.
"But I won't join you. Any banchou that needs to rely on some healing ability, brass knuckles, and a knife isn't a man. So you're just gonna have to kill me." Kuwa let out another chuckle, and removed his jacket, tossing it to the side. He liked that jacket. Didn't want to get too much more of his blood on it.
"But I'm not dying a coward. So come on, Neo Death God. Show me what you've got." Kuwabara finished, launching at the other teen, smile never for a second leaving his face.
