(OOC: Me and Jilak. Significant Firefly knowledge required to join, and its set to be a bit crowded so its unlikely. Heavy godmoding, done with Jilak's permission over IM and approved before posting.)
Simon had paid the bus fare, but it had cost him every credit he had left. It was in part due to the "conversion" rate he'd discovered before, and in part due to not being made of money in the first place. At least, not since the events that had indirectly lead to him becoming a member of Mal's crew. Mal had been mostly responsible for getting Jayne onto the bus, making an excuse of him being drunk to explain why he was out. Simon was busy with Makoto. Zero was injured and not doing the best at hiding it. Neither were capable of offering much help.
Jayne had remained out the whole trip, as did Makoto. Jayne's breathing was better, but neither were in immediate danger. There wasn't much talking on the trip. Zero was irritated, Mal was busy with his hand and Jayne, and Simon was tending to Makoto. It took an hour and a half to get to Bonsai, and it was an event getting everyone off the damn bus. Zero spoke up again to guide the group to the hospital, and after fifteen minutes of walking (would have been five, but they still had two injured party members) they were in front of the rather large.... hut.

As they'd made it off the bus, Jayne had awoken. Upon his awakening he and Mal had a small discussion that had basically amounted to Jayne being forced to go off somewhere to think. Unknown to Mal, this 'thinking' would involve quite a bit of 'drinking'. And maybe even a Big Damn Heroes moment, who knows?
And then Malcolm noticed the 'hospital'. Was that... was that a hut? They were here... for a hut? Mal slowly turned to Simon, still carrying Makoto, and Zero.
"...you sure this is the only other hospital?" Mal asked, taken aback.
"I don't know, it has that sort of... charm to it, don't you think?" Simon responded.
"It's a hut."
"Yes, but all of my medical supplies are back on the boat, which is sort of hard to get to, so this might as well be a five-star hospital." Simon finished, leaving out the fact that Serenity was sort of impounded.
"Although, since I am a doctor, if given access to a few resources I could help out. Maybe see to your ribs." Simon stated, turning to Zero.

Zero had winced getting off the bus. It might seem to some viewers that he was a wimp, but it would be likely those viewers had never had injured ribs. Stories told of people having trouble breathing, let alone moving and being active. And Zero had gotten into a tussle with Jayne about an hour previous. You also had to realize Zero wasn't used to pain he couldn't heal. He had remained quiet, and was once again questioning his alliance with the group. He settled on safety in numbers, and the implication of that made his scowl deepen.
They'd reached the large hut quickly. He turned and gave Mal a flat look that answered the question to the positive without a word. When Simon made his observation, Zero found himself agreeing with Mal. It was a hut, there was nothing in the way of "charm" to find about it. Simon's follow up had a point. This would be the best place for him to access supplies. Although hard to get to was an understatement. He doubted any of the group grasped the difficulty of reaching another dimension.
"I don't need your help," Zero stated with a slight growl, "There is little chance you could help me, even if you were a computer programmer of some sort."
Which was... odd considering what Simon didn't know. Before any one in the group could argue, Zero had walked inside, leaving the three of them just standing there.

"Computer programmer?" Simon questioned after Zero had walked inside, quirking a brow.
"You don't want to know." Mal answered, stepping inside the hut after Zero. Simon remained with his pondering for a minute before deciding to follow.
"If you'd like, I could take the kid for ya. Figure as we should probably both be heading off to medical care, I'd save you the trouble. After all, you've got your doctorin' to do." Mal said, a small smile forming.
"But he doesn't want my help, remember?"
"Doesn't mean he doesn't need it. You've gotta understand, he's not exactly used to being... human," Mal stated, finishing with, upon Simon's quizzical look, "Don't ask."
Simon turned to Zero, hesitantly.
"I'm... afraid you may have some internal bleeding, and would like to have a look inside your torso, if you allow me."

Zero had sat on a seat inside. The place was actually not bad at all from the inside, and despite the description of hut and the appearance of the outside was pretty large. There were several areas blocked off with blankets that seemed to function as rooms, and while the medical equipment inside wasn't top of the line, it wasn't poor either... by Earth that Was standards, in any case. It would seem a bit archaic to Simon who came from a universe where top of the line Earth that Was standards would be a little underdeveloped by Alliance ones.
The virus looked up at Mal and Simon as they had their little exchange about him. He narrowed his eyes and gave a glare at Mal, but said nothing. The man seemed to be amused, which meant he was harassing him as much as Simon. He turned his focus to Simon as Mal took Makoto away, standing up. For a moment Simon may have been under the misinterpertation that Zero was going to allow himself to be examined.
It would only be for a moment, though. Zero turned from Simon and towards a cart a young man was pushing past. A nurse by his attire. He walked over to the cart and grabbed the man's shoulder, causing him to yelp in surprise and jerk his head to the side. Zero grabbed a blade off the cart, which looked to be small scalpel. He held it up so the light glinted off it and Simon could see it, ignoring the nurse's stuttering to calm down.
"As the man said, I'm not human. Since that concept seems hard for you to grasp..." he brought the scalpel down so it was to the far left of his right wrist. Simon probably had an idea what he was about to do. He would be right, as Zero slashed the blade across his wrist...
...and blood began to well up at a rapid pace. Zero hadn't been looking at his wrist as he made the cut, but his eyes widened at the spike in pain. He jerked his head down as the blood rushed up and touched both his sleeve cuffs. His eyes were saucers as he dropped the scalpel and stumbled backwards into the counter, just staring at his bleeding wrist. It was as if he expected a result other starting to bleed to death after slicing his wrist... he had, but Simon would have no way to know the justification for it.
A small squeaking noise escaped Zero's throat as he tried to come up with words, and the blood began to trail down his palm, between his fingers, and drip onto the floor. Of course, the nurse was panicking. He was just in training, and this man had just sliced his own wrist. He snatched a roll bandage off the cart and ran up to Zero, grabbing the man's wrist and quickly wrapping and applying pressure. Zero seemed in definite shock, but figurative and medical. The nurse jerked his head up and yelled towards one of the blanketed off rooms.
"Someone get a doctor in here, now!"

Simon's mind was definitely tripping, that was for sure. Jesus, man looked like he DIDN'T expect to bleed after cutting his wrist. He'd SOUNDED like it prior, too. The hell was his problem? But that was neither here nor there, as in the brief moments between Zero cutting his wrist and the nurse leaping into action, Simon had entered doctor mode. HE might not have known the layout of the hospital, but the nurse sure as hell should...
Simon looked to his side and noticed a stretcher. He quickly opened it and got Zero on it. Perhaps due to all the shock, the man put up little fight. Simon looked over to the nurse and grasped him by his shoulders.
"Listen to me! This type of injury isn't deadly 99.9% of the time. It'll clot, but to keep it from getting INFECTED, I'm going to need to give this man stitches. I need you to direct me to an operating room where I can, quickly." Simon hurried out, shaking the poor nurse a bit. He hastily pointed down a short corridor, with a small room at the end marked 'operations'. Perhaps even the same room Aby had taken Vlad.
Simon hurriedly pushed Zero down the corridor, finding the door locked. He didn't have time to go for a key, so he pulled a Jayne and shouldered it open. The pain he felt rise up most likely meant he'd dislocated that shoulder. He'd have that seen to later, THAT wouldn't end in infection that could lose him his hand if he didn't have it seen to.
He shuffled through various supplies before coming to the material he needed to stitch Zero's wrist, working quickly. It was a short process, and once he'd finished he was quick to bandage it up.
Simon remained silent for a few seconds, rifling through a few medical supplies on a nearby table, before speaking up.
"Now, about those ribs..."

Zero had indeed offered nothing in the way of resistance. Any trouble Simon had came about more because Zero didn't seem able to walk right for the shock. Simon was able to guide him onto the stretcher, and Zero turned his head to look at his wrist, his eyes a bit glazed over from the shock.
Really, the man only seem to came out of it any while Simon was working on the stitches. He'd given a solid jerk at the pain of having his skin sewn together without anasthetic, but Simon was able to manhandle him well enough to get it done. Once he snipped the stitch thread, Zero lowered his arm and took in labored breaths. He didn't answer Simon immediately, but after a few moments he sat up with his good arm, wincing at the pain from his ribs.
"...I didn't expect that," he stated, probably confusing the good doctor further.

"Sorry, but you managed to cut your wrist during one of the times the hospital had NOT restocked on anesthetic. If I'd had another option I'd have used it, but you take what you can get, I suppose." Simon responded. He chose to assume the man meant he didn't expect the doctor to do an operation sans anesthetic and NOT assume that he was a lunatic that didn't think he'd cut himself by... cutting... his... wrist. And you had to admit, it was pretty insane.
"Now, from your reactions to the pain, I can make an educated guess as to the location of the problem. Now, if I make another educated guess, and knowing my captain well enough, he attempted CPR and in turn fractured your ribs. Am I wrong?" Simon asked, giving off a warm smile as he ruffled through more items.
And after all, Zero WAS out of the danger zone. Why not try to lighten the mood? Especially since the whole 'I'M NOT HUMAN YOU CAN'T HELP ME' thing was sort of the elephant in the room.

"Right this way, ma'am." Jayne Cobb stated, leading Yi-Min into the makeshift hospital. Any onlookers would notice she had a shard of glass around the length of a hand embedded in her sternum. Jayne was also, however, carrying two other patients. One was a young girl, whom seemed to be bleeding. Her abdomen was notedly wrapped with what appeared to be part of a shirt. The other was the gentleman the strip had come from, and he... had a hole clear through his shoulder.
Jayne turned to the nurse, whom was picking up his supplies.
"Any idea where I can find a few doctors that can fix my friends here up?"

Zero gave Simon an unkind look in response to his comments. Zero was not a master of reading people, but he knew humans as a whole. This human was a doctor and yet not reacting in any way to the events from earlier. A comment on his insanity for cutting his own wrist like that alone would have been expected. However, he said nothing as Simon commented on the other problem and the reasoning there of. He spoke only in response to Simon's question, but he didn't look at the man. He was looking at the blood on his shirt cuffs with absolute disdain.
"He had an encounter that lead to a device being implanted in his hand which effected my coding. The latter indirectly lead to what happened out there," Zero stated. He carefully began to remove his jacket, making a point of touching his cuffs as little as possible. He unceremoniously dropped the white article of clothing on the floor and began working on unbuttoning his shirt. He muttered the next lines, "I've never bled before... no form of mine should be capable of bleeding..."
----------
The nurse had an armful of supplies when Jayne spoke to him. He looked up towards the man and proceeded to drop everything on the ground again in surprise. He blinked as he saw the woman with a piece of effing glass in her chest, a teenage girl with a patch job on what looked to be a bad stomach wound on one of the man's arms, and a man with a hole through his flippin shoulder on the other. He had to wonder what the hell the man had been doing, but the patients came first. He turned his head and shouted.
"We've got three emergency cases here! A teenage girl with a belly wound and an injured arm, a man with a severe shoulder wound, and a woman with shrapnel imbedded in her chest! Someone get out here!"
This day was not a good one by any means...

Well, now Simon's brain was just entirely tripped. Really, what the hell? What was Zero, a more... sophisticated, badass, Reaver? Even jokingly that made no sense. And since the beings weren't too diverse where Simon came from, the idea of a living virus was just psychopathic. As such, he did not respond to Zero, instead continuing to move items around on the desk. When Simon FINALLY responded, he chose to dance over the matter.
"A device in his hand, you say? What type of device? Is it STILL in his hand? If so, I may be able to remove it..." Simon stated, ironically lifting a small scalpel.
--
Jayne calmly handed River and Yoshi to the doctors as they rushed up, and gave a slight salute to Yi-Min before taking a seat.
"'scuse me, nurse, where can I find Malcolm Reynolds, Simon Tam, and Makoto?" Jayne asked, being quite... nicer than usually known for. Really, all of the recent 'oh shit she's got a piece of glass embedded in her sternum' panic had mellowed him out for the moment.
"Take the end of this hallway and you should find them, sir..." He responded, awestruck. Was the man really more worried about the less serious cases?
Jayne didn't stay around to discuss it, quickly shuffling down the hall.

Zero had his shirt mostly off as Simon finally replied, and the massive bruising was now visible. He pulled his hand out of the right sleeve slowly, avoiding touching the blood on it as much as he could. The doctor had cleaned up the area around his hand during the process, but a little got onto his skin from the shirt. He glared at it as he dropped it onto where his jacket had gone and grabbed a cloth off the tray next to the bed. He hadn't replied to Simon yet. He spit on the gauze he'd grabbed, likely to Simon's disdain, and wiped off a bit of stubborn blood. Only then did he turn to Simon.
"A tracking device of some sort, among... other functions. Due to a video feed I was able to see it happening. It dug into his skin under his own power. I'd use a movie as reference but I doubt you'd know it due to your dimension of origin. Those two men can be blamed for my current condition as well," Zero held up his hands and gave a death glare, "I can't even use my powers. My data is corrupted, tinted the same damn blue as the gloves they wear..."
----------
"Ma'am, are you able to walk without assistance?"
Yi-Min looked at the nurse and nodded. She opened her mouth to talk, but closed it before she said anything. The nurse seemed to understand and lead her to one of the blanketed off rooms. However the attack had hit, the woman had been damn lucky. As for Yoshi and River, they were quickly brought to other rooms themselves.

Zero continuing to talk about his powers wasn't helping Simon's mind. Seriously, not at all. He was about to comment on it, in fact, when Zero reached the line about the color of the mens' gloves. Blue... and Simon assumed that there were, at most, two... two by two... hands of... blue? And then it hit him. River. Mal had been subject to an attack, yes. And while he was possibly also a target, Simon knew the men would have one main ulterior motive.
River Tam. His sister. And if Jayne was here, what was to say that SHE wasn't? Simon abruptly dropped the object he was tinkering with and turned to Zero, grasping his shoulders.
"Listen to me, you have to tell me everything you know about the men. Other than attacking Captain Reynolds, did they mention River Tam? Do they know her location, or is she, for the moment, safe?" Simon rushed out, an almost pleading look on his face.
If River was in danger, he didn't know what he'd do... she just could NOT go back to that facility.

Zero jerked back as Simon grabbed his shoulders. He winced as the jerk by the man caused him to move in a way that hurt his ribs. The man was panicked, but Mal had said something about them being siblings. It was more of that human mentality. He scowled at the man and and lifted up his left arm (the one without the stitches on the wrist) and grabbed Simon's right wrist. He squeezed a bit to cause the man to loosen his grip and then removed his arm, before doing so with the other.
"I don't know much. They did something to the 'captain' to knock him out and sent a device into his hand before they shot the camera I saw the scene on, and no mention of your sister was made. They possess a high level of technology, one piece of which attacked the others, causing some kind of hemoragging in Jayne. They also caused my current condition, and I have to wonder if you've met sentient viruses before... or are you choosing to ignore my continued references to my powers?"
|

"Believe it or not, you're the first... 'sentient virus' I've run into. Perhaps because I come from a world where ANY type of viral technology is reserved for the Alliance. To my knowledge, Serenity doesn't even have a computer. Alliance thinks if any of the outer planets have a way to shut down their systems... well, it's a security thing. And you've seen Jayne." Simon responded. He couldn't get more articulate than that because he was still, truth be told, tripping.
"We need to get out of this hospital... hell, out of this DIMENSION..." Simon stated.River wasn't safe as long as they couldn't just fly away.
--
Over in Makoto's room, where Mal had chosen to remain, Captain Reynolds currently had Jayne in a headlock.
"So let me make sure I'm understandin' ya here, Jayne. You saw the two men that attacked me and started our boatload of problems... and you let them get away?" Mal asked, slowly, through gritted teeth.
"They walked... through the gorram walls!" Jayne gasped out, struggling to keep the captain from asphyxiating him. Now THAT'S junk.

Zero was looking at Simon with an extremely annoyed expression. The man had said he wanted to take a look at his ribs, but he was now stuttering all over himself. It wasn't like anything could be done for his sister without him knowing where she was. And there was no guarantee she was in this dimension. Granted, Mal's group did seem to be getting drawn to him... on that note, he had no idea how Simon or Jayne had even gotten there. There was also the fact that Simon didn't seem to really believe him, although the virus supposed he couldn't blame the man. And he didn't have safe access to his abilities to prove it. Simon spoke again after the trailing off.
"Out of the hospital is possiblle. Out of the dimension is unlikely. Most people who get drawn here remain here for the rest of their lives. Its rare for a stable connection to be built between dimensions," Zero replied. He gave Simon a flat look, "Did you intend on looking at my ribs or are you going to stand there stuttering about things you have no control over?"
----------
Makoto stirred in his sleep. The boy could probably do with a week of sleep, but for whatever reason he had come out of his unconscious state. His fear of sleep, or even sensing the arrival of illwilled individuals. In any case, he opened his eyes and saw the man from before... and the man that had tried to kill Simon.
He gave a panicked scream and Jayne would have a pillow thrown at his head out of reflex. Then again, it was thrown with less force than a female child and wouldn't even hit him unless Mal happened to jerk him forward at just the right instance.
As soon as the pillow had left his hand, he'd frozen up. It wasn't that he hadn't wanted to defend himself, but he'd sensed the feelings Jayne had carried before. He didn't have the ability to key into them again, not specifically, so he had no way of knowing if anything had changed. He did know the man would probably not appreciate the action and didn't know about the other one. So, he winced and ducked down, covering the back of his heads with both hands and trying to make himself small. He shivered, but said nothing. No amount of begging and apologizing would save him from what was coming.
Where was Simon...?
