Soul Edge had gone comatose when Nightmare had...turned, so to speak. When he regained consciousnesses, it was just in time to see Soul Calibur re accept Gantz.
So it had been a lie...
He noticed Gantz look at him.
"...NO."
The sirens were screeching as the soldiers began to evacuate the building. Jihl stood at the entrance, yelling orders. "I wan the entire perimeter sealed off and Omega Team brought in! I don't care if Evan's back from his assignment, we cannot risk a Thadeus Manifestation! Locate Zero and bring him to me! I will not allow failure! The lives of every thing on this island is on the line, so hustle, all of you!!!"
A.J. was helped up by the Climber. "Thanks..." He had no idea who any of these people were, but right now that didn't matter.
He looked over at Nightmare's body. For some reason, there seemed to be something about him that reminded him of something...but he couldn't remember what...
Meanwhile, Yana was relieved to see that the others were safe...
At first. Then he realized the immediate threat.
"What are you guys doing--"
He was interrupted when Nightmare was slammed into the ground by Gantz, wielding both of the swords.
"THIS IS ABSOLUTE SACRILEGE!!!" Soul Edge yelled.
Of all the things to happen today, seeing Gantz dual-wield both of those swords was not what Yana expected. Jeeze, I thought the two of the hated each other! Oh, wait...
Once Gantz told them to get out, Yana became indignant. "What?! No, I am not--WHA!"
Rose had grabbed both him and A.J. and had started to drag them both out of the room. "What---no! Let me go, we can't leave him in there with him!!!"
A.J. was just as indignant. "Let go of me! You think I'm just going to let him get slaughtered by that guy? Let GO!"
"Lord Kavma, we have a situation..."
The Nightmare thing got up from its beatdown, glaring at Gantz with such intense hate that if it weren't for the fact he was fighting for his life he would've soiled himself.
"Insolent...." the thing seethed. "DISOBEDIENT...
And then Nina interrupted. Unfortunately, she never reached the monster.
With a terrifying scream, Nightmare's head split open, and a bloody tentacle lashed out and struck her, knocking her into the air--
"GOTCHA!"
Nina hadn't been the only one to come back.
Yana ran forward and caught her before she hit the ground. Meanwhile, A.J. had run forward and sliced the tentacle in half, causing Nightmare to scream and charge forward. A.J. jumped over the monster and threw his Keyblade, striking it clear in the head.
As A.J. tangled with the thing, Yana had set Nina down and started to heal her while glaring at Gantz. "Whatever you're going to say, Gantz, save it. I'm not leaving you alone to sacrifice yourself, all right? You're my friend. Friends never abandon each other!"
"We're your friends, Gantz. Me, Kaitlin, Max, Nutcase, everyone...You're not alone. Never will be."

Gantz looked to see Yana and A.J reappear on scene with a roll of his eyes. "Guys. I thought I told you to-" It didn't help when Yana tried to defend his case. "I wasn't trying to tell you to run so I could sacrifice myself, you idiot! I was telling you to run cause I'd be right behind you!!"
At that moment, A.J. was knocked aside as the nightmarish creature roared at Yana. "Oh no you don't!!!" Before the creature could reach him, "SAINT CROSS!!!!" A powerful blast of holy energy surrounded him before it exploded outward, sending Nightmare blasting upwards. From that perspective, he could see that the blast was in the rough shape of a Cross, surrounding Gantz. If Soul Edge yelled in outrage at this energy usage, he was shut up, when another blast of magical energy entered the boy. "Try this!!! FIRAGA!!!!"
He launched out a quick vollying barrage of these spells at the quickly descending armor.

"Right behind us?" Yana argued. "It sure didn't look that way to me, Gantz! It doesn't matter now, let's get out of here before--"
"AAAAAAAGH!!!!" A.J. had been thrown at the wall as Nightmare turned to Yana, screaming bloody murder. Before he could reach him, however, Gantz intervened, smashing him with Saint Cross and following with Firaga.
Meanwhile, Soul Edge contemplated a thousand million ways to make Gantz suffer eternally.
I'm sure Soul Calibur was just as easily disgruntled.
...
Snap.
Nightmare exploded.
As soon as the fireballs made contact, he burst into a fiery ball of energy. The ball slowly descended to the ground, while a bizarre tune seemed to come out of nowhere...
Meanwhile, Nina was helping A.J. to his feet. "Thanks, miss," he said gratefully.
That's when he noticed what was happening with Nightmare. He froze. He knew what was happening.
"Oh God no." Without turning around, he said to Nina, "Run. Get everyone else and run. Don't argue. Just do it."
Yana was staring at the ball of energy, wide eyed. "Wha...Gantz...What's going on...?"

At last.
The sphere burst, revealing A.J.'s greatest fear as D.E.V.A. Jonathan revealed itself in all its glory.

Gantz looked on in wide-eyed horror as the figure revealed itself. It was something so powerful his energy senses was literally hurting every inch of his body just trying to feel how powerful it was.
Nina looked just as horrified. "M-M'lord Gantz... What is that-??"
Gantz looked at her.
"Nina... I don't know... And I'm pretty sure I don't want to know."
That simplistic statement more then made clear that the time to fight had long since ended.
"RUN!!!!!" Gantz quickly grabbed Nina and Yana and took off running. When he caught up to AJ, he cast Hastega on everyone present and they ran like the devil himself was chasing them...
Such a saying worked in this fashion...

"This is Site Command of Sector 22. Jonathan has manifested. I repeat, Jonathan has manifested. We are requesting immediate assistance from Omega Squad. This is a top priority emergency."
Yana didn't need to be told twice. He didn't know what that thing was, and he didn't care. Just staring at it made his body hurt.
So he didn't have any objections as Gantz grabbed him and ran off toward the door.
A.J. was practically hyperventilating as he ran with them. "No God no not again why is this happening..."
They were just about to go through the door when Gantz felt Yana get yanked out of his hand. "AAAAAGH!"
Yana was thrown backward, landing rather painfully. Before the others could run and help him, an amber colored barrier materialized in the doorway, denying them access.
"NO!" A.J. yelled. He summoned his Keyblade and began attacking the barrier to no effect. "NO, DAMMIT, NO!!! LEAVE HIM ALONE!!!"
Yana got up shakily and noticed the barrier. "Guys?!"
A movement in the corner of his eye caused him to roll out of the way as a sphere of black energy flew past his head and hit the wall. "Guys, get out of here!" Yana yelled. "I'll be fine! Just go!"
"BULLSHIT!" A.J. yelled. "I'm not leaving you with that thing! You know what it's capable of!"
Yana stared at him for a moment, uncomprehending. "...What are you talking abo--"
Jonathan interrupted by utilizing Earthquake, sending Yana flying.
(No, nothing they can do can break the barrier. Sorry.)

Gantz was equally panicked. "JESUS, YANA NO!!!" He struck at the barrier with both Soul Edge and Soul Calibur frantically ("OW-OW-OW-OW!!! WHAT ARE YOU HITTING ME OVER, REINFORCED NETHICITE?!?!?"), but the barrier did not move in the slightest. "Dammit!! YANA!!!"
"Gantz what's going on-?!? I thought you were right behind-" Rose was cut off as she ran up, the evil energy this... Jonathan thing was letting off. "Oh... My... Shiva..."
Nina rapidly sliced dragon fire covered slices at the barrier. "Help us get this thing down!! Yana's in trouble!!!"

"STOP--USING--ME--AS--A--BATTERING--RAM!!!" Soul Edge shrieked. No one paid him any mind.
A.J. slammed the Keyblade against the barrier. "DAMMIT!" He dispelled his weapon. "EVERYONE STAND BACK!"
Yana got up shakily, using his healing power to fix himself up as he gazed at D.E.V.A. Jonathan.
The...thing looked grotesque, like a humanoid, skinless fox or rabbit. Instead of legs it had eight equally skinless tails that swayed gently as it floated off the ground. Jonathan gave Yana a proud smirk as it beckoned to him.
...this...is going to suck.
Jonathan raised its arms as black energy began to form. As soon as it had finished, it flung the black sphere at him, prompting him to dodge. "What the heck are you, anyway?!" Yana yelled.
Jonathan responded by flying up into the air, stretching out its eight tails as they began to glow.
"Oh, that cannot be good--"
The eight tails then proceeded to fire lasers out of them.
Meanwhile, A.J. was deep in concentration as a sphere of dark energy formed in his hand. "Come on...come on..."
Yana was running as fast as he could while the lasers missed him by mere inches. "This isn't good, I need a weapon, or SOMETHING--
Jonathan then proceeded to slam the ground AGAIN, making him lose balance and falling over. "Ow..."
I'm going to get killed if this keeps up...come on, something, ANYTHING!
"Here's a gift."
Yana looked up sharply at the sound of the voice, startled, only to see that there was no one there. "What--"
Something glittery caught his eye--as he stood up, he say that something had been dropped in front of him. It looked like a small piece of red metal.
(Any observant members of the audience will notice that the shard is a piece of Soul Edge.)
"Interesting...and so our mutual friend comes into play, despite his personal rules..."
Yana knelt down to pick up the shard. "Where the heck did this come from?"
As soon as his hand curled around the shard, the thing started to glow brightly, nearly blinding him. When it dimmed, he saw that the shard had turned into a brilliant blue, the same color as Calibur.
If the sword in question used her powers to sense the shard, she wouldn't have sensed any evil on the thing any more.
Meanwhile, Gantz's phone began to ring, despite it being a hugely inopportune time. Seriously, where are these people getting his phone number?

Gantz looked down at his pocket where his phone was. Now, considering his current situation, holding Soul Edge and Soul Calibur, he really didn't have anyway to safely put either away and answer the phone. If he threw away Soul Edge there was no telling what it would do.
And if he threw away Soul Calibur... Well there was no telling what Soul Edge would do there either.
"Rose!" Gantz called as he backed up. "Can you get my phone please? My hands are full here." Rose quickly nodded and took the phone from Gantz's front pocket with little trouble.
She took a second to remember how phone's worked before she found the answer button. "Hello?? Tarosuke is that you??"
Nina looked on in horror as Yana was covered by the light, unable to tell what she was to make of what she was seeing. "Good god..."

The sphere in A.J.'s hand dissipated. "Damn it!"
Yana looked over the shard. It was about as long as his forearm; it could probably work as an impromptu dagger. He looked up at Jonathan, who was forming another energy sphere. His grip on the shard tightened.
I don't know what's going on...and to be honest, I don't care anymore.
"All right, you big mook," he said to D.E.V.A. Jonathan, his voice firm. "You want me to fight you? Fine. I'll be happy to oblige!"
He ran forward, ducking underneath the sphere as it sailed over his head, and jumped toward Jonathan, swinging the shard with all the force he had.
It hit the monster in the face.
The voice on the other end WAS NOT Tarosuke.
"What the--who the heck is this?! Misty, you said this was Gantz's phone number!"
"Where the hell is Omega Team?!"
"We just made contact with them, ma'am, they're on route from Mt. Bonsai."
"Mount--what on earth were they even doing there?!"
"According to Captain Evan, there was another D.E.V.A. event..."
"..."
"Superior?"
(The one on the phone is Kaitlin, calling from Mt. Bonsai. You have to remember, though, Rosaline and Kaitlin have never met. Heck, Kaitlin doesn't even know Rose EXISTS. Keep that in mind.)

Rosaline sounded quite surprised to hear the female's voice on the other end, the fact that she mentioned Gantz, and the fact that she seemed to be addressing Misty on the other end. Quickly getting to work, she responded to the female. "Um, I'm really sorry, but Gantz is all tied up at this time. I'm his girlfriend Rosaline."
She tilted her head curiously. "But, who are you though miss? You certainly don't sound familiar to me."
The Climber watched on in horror as Yana challenged Jonathan head on, even though even the ENERGY BLIND MANNEQUIN could very easily tell the young man was out of his league. "Yana, wh-what are you doing?!?"

Jonathan let out a bloodcurdling screech as the shard dug into its skin. The monster swatted Yana away, throwing him toward the wall.
"Ow..." Yana quickly healed himself, then rolled out of the way as Jonathan fired its lasers.
Kaitlin's voice sounded flabbergasted. "What the--girlfriend? He actually--never mind! I know Jaron's with you, so give him the phone RIGHT NOW!"
A.J. overheard. "What the--hey, lady, who're you talking to?"
"Okay, focus, focus..." Yana muttered.
(Believe it or not, we're almost done with this fight.)

Rosaline quickly found herself entranced by the fight before her, before she remembered Kaitlin was on the line. "Oh! Yes, fine. Here he is!"
Perhaps out of the thought processes that he, in fact, WAS the Jaron Kaitlin was looking for, Rose quickly handed the phone off to AJ before turning back to the fight. "My god..."
Gantz was equally wide-eyed. "JESUS CHRIST... HE'S.... HE'S ACTUALLY HURTING IT!!!!!"

A.J. took the phone. "Kaitlin?!"
"WHAT THE?! A.J.?! What're you doing over there?!"
"What, did you think I was going to let you guys go after Kavma by yourselves?"
"How the heck did you even know about that?"
"Lucas told me!"
"Lucas--oh, never mind! Give R.J. the phone!"
A.J. looked toward the fight. "Uh...I don't think I can right now..."
"...lemme guess, he's in some deathmatch."
"Yeah."
He could hear her facepalm. "Terrific...Listen, you need to grab him and get out of there NOW."
"There's a barrier! We can't break it!"
Kaitlin swore. "Oh, for crying out loud!"
In the background, he heard Max say, "Is Erin there with him?"
Yana swung at one of the tails, nicking it and earning another screech. I have to end this quickly...come on...
End of Story.
"Huh?"
The name just popped into his head. He didn't know where it came from, but...
He knew exactly what to do.

Also on the other end of the phone, there came a voice that would've been familiar with Gantz and Rosaline had they been listening in. "You mean you've contacted Gantz?" The voice had an apparently thick European Spanish accent. "What a grand device kupo! Here Let me see it!" There was the slightest sound of a struggle, but Kaitlyn remained on the phone.
As that went on, Gantz and the others watched on as Yana matched Jonathan step for step, breaking a few beads of sweat, but otherwise staying alive. Gantz meanwhile was examining the barrier, trying his very best to find some sort of weakness in it, so he could get inside and help... To no avail of course. "Even if he is hurting it, his luck can't last forever... We need to get in there somehow..."
"But how?" Rose asked as she looked to him.
Nina turned to the young paladin as well. "I'm inclined to agree. I've seen a barrier or two around Radiata... And this thing's as thick as a brick wall."

A.J. sweatdropped.
End of Story...
D.E.V.A. Jonathan screeched as it formed another sphere. Yana, on the other hand, looked eerily calm.
Maybe TOO calm.
"So you just waltz in here, try to kill my pals, and then lock me in here to try to kill me," he began, with what looked like a slight smirk on his face, "buuuuut there's one thing you should've taken into account:
You should have ran when you got the chance."
A.J. blinked. "What is he--"
Yana threw the shard directly at Jonathan, hitting it straight between the eyes. As the monster screamed in agony, he ran forward, jumped, then grabbed the shard and pulled, back flipping and landing on his feet. He dashed forward, and--much to Gatnz's surprise--four beams of light materialized around Jonathan. Yana grabbed the first one and struck the beast with it, running past it and repeating with the other three.
A.J. grinned. "Oh, he's got this one in the bag!"
As soon as the last beam vanished, Yana spun the shard in his hand, then dashed forward.
"END OF STORY, PAL!"
There was a loud crack as Yana actually dashed through Jonathan, slicing into the thing so quickly that you would've blinked and missed it. As he landed, silence fell, Jonathan floating perfectly still.
"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!"
Jonathan grabbed its head and screamed, writhing and convulsing.
"What the heck was that noise?!" Kaitlin demanded. "What're you guys DOING over there?!"
