"Friend of ours," Evan clarified before turning to Ace. "Not sure what he's up to. He just kinda wandered off shortly after we got here."
"Knowing him, he'll show up in due time," Patrick added. "Now you hang tight! I'll get you a board!" Before anyone could object, Patrick rushed inside the lodge to rent a snowboard for Ace.

"Ah... Okay," Ace replied, watching Patrick dash inside.
It was then that she noticed the odd look that Swift was giving her. "Um... Can I help you?"
"What?" Swift shook herself off. "Oh. Sorry."
"You okay?"
"Not sure. I think... I think I'm gonna go inside for a moment." She quickly headed towards the lodge, motioning to Andromeda and Aether to follow her, which they did with a fair amount of suspicion.

Beth shrugged. "You seems like a cool person Ace," she offered.
"So what course are you all going to attempt?" asked Chrys calmly.

"Swift...?" Evan started to follow her, turning around and muttering, "Excuse me," before disappearing inside the lodge.
"Whichever one has the least amount of trees for me to crash into," Darien answered half-sarcastically.

"Ah, this one's perfect!" Patrick cheered, finding a black and red snowboard available for rent. He quickly grabbed it and went to pay it. Ace was gonna love it.

"Aw... Thanks," Ace replied, rubbing her neck. "You guys seem cool too."

"Swift, is everything alright?" Aether asked once the trio was alone.
"I don't know," Swift responded. "It's just... there's something very wrong with Ace. Something about her scent just sets me off. It's not even a particularly angelic or demonic scent. It's like nothing I can recognize, and whatever it is, it's disgusting."
Andromeda nodded, pointed to her head and wiggled her fingers.
Aether translated her gestures, "I see... Strange noises? Like what?"
In response, Andromeda circled her hands around her stomach.
"Huh... Weird scent... Bodily noises... Come to think of it, Ace did seem a bit pale. I wonder what could be wrong with her."

"Oh... I don't believe we've been formally introduced," Jen said to Ace. "I'm Jen, Evan's sister."
Toby stepped up, tilting his head. "Ace, you alright? You're looking kinda..."
"Here we are!" Patrick returned with the snowboard and all the gear Ace would need for the trip. "Hope this stuff works for ya!"

Evan kept to the sidelines, out of sight but not exactly hiding (with Swift's senses, it wouldn't have done him much good). He listened intently to the girls' discussion, feeling worried, suspicious... and oddly protective of Ace all at once. He wasn't sure what to believe or if Ace was at any fault, not that Swift was trying to place any on her.
Still... Swift was nothing if not honest. What could be bothering her?

"Great to meet ya!" Ace said just as Patrick returned. Her eyes gleamed at the sight of the snowboard he had chosen for her. "Aw, Pat, this is perfect! Thank you! I'm gonna go suit up!"
She gave him a quick hug, swiped the gear and took off.

"Well, whatever the case, let's not jump to any conclusions," Swift continued. "Until we know what this affliction is, we should at least be kind to her."
"Of course," Aether agreed, Andromeda nodding along with her.
Swift looked towards where Evan was. "If only because you feel it's right." She started walking out, grabbing Evan by the coat along the way. "Come on, Keymaster."

Beth offered a small smile. "She's a good person for you Pat," she offered.
Chrys stayed back and watched. Though I haven't met her something seems off... Chrys thought as she watched Ace go get her gear on.

Patrick blushed at Ace's touch, and his humiliation only worsened at Beth's comment. As honest as it might have been, he didn't want to give off the wrong impression too soon.
"Just, uh... Just what did you two do while we were gone?" Darien asked suspiciously.
"Not much. Just slept," Patrick mumbled almost too quietly to hear.

"Ack-!" Evan didn't protest as Swift hauled him back outside. He just smiled in understanding, knowing that she meant well all in all, and whatever she believed was wrong with Ace had to be temporary.
Right...?
He noticed Ace slipping on snow pants and ski gear a little ways away. She seemed alright to him; if anything, she looked a million times better than when she had first shown up.

Indeed, Ace was feeling much happier now, and it was very plain to see. She saw the group come out of the lodge, smiling and waving at them and gaining waves in return. Once she was fully suited for the snow, she bounded back over to the group. "Ready when you are!"
"Awesome," Swift replied before she and Evan gave Darien a simultaneous shove. "Well, better get up there, Doc!"

Evan chuckled as he helped Swift push Darien up the mountain; the Brit simply replied with the kind of awkward laugh a dying man would give.
Patrick walked alongside Ace. "Feel like taking a head start?"
