Toby's cheeks turned a deep red as he exchanged a dorky grin and zipped up his hoodie. "Y-Yeah, fine by me!"
As he walked along, hands in his pockets, he nonchalantly asked, "So, yeah, what'd you think? O-Of the movie? I loved it!"

"I liked it. Donnie felt relatable and like a person I could meet just walking the streets here or at home," she offered as they walked.

"Yeah, I thought so too," Toby agreed. "Very heartfelt and relatable story he had..."
He stared ahead, pondering the connections he had made during the film. Remembering the comments he and Chrys had made at the end. As he began to dwell on them, he had to ask...
"Chrys... I... I'm sorry to change the subject to something more... personal, but... um... what were your parents like?"

"Never met mom. At least that I can remember... Dad." She gave a soft smile. "He raised me until he got really sick with cancer... I was about 9 when he passed. His parents wanted nothing to do with me so I was put in foster care..."

"Oh... wow." Toby nodded, understanding completely. "I... never knew my mom either. My real mom, I mean. Or my real dad, whoever he is. My adoptive parents, though..." He took a deep breath and stared at the ground. "They were my parents, for all intents and purposes. And I... well...... I dunno."

"So... together we're Batman?" Chrys asked as the walked.

Toby attempted a laugh. "Yeah... I guess that's one way to look at it."
He gazed at Chrys again. "At least I'm not alone, no matter how often I try to be. Still... can't help but wish for simpler times now and then, huh?"

"No. No it can't," Chrys offered as her hand reached for his.

Toby gratefully locked his hand with hers, staring blissfully into the city, illuminated by the soft glow of streets lights and the silver horizon. "I think Rocky said it best. If I could take everything that was good... have just one more day with my family... I'd die a happy man, even if I am damned."

Chrys nodded. "We can cherish the memories we have of them," Chrys offered.

"It's just about all I have left," Toby sighed, though he immediately starting making an effort at cheering up, if only slightly. "Thanks... It's... It's been a while since I've been this open with someone, let alone this comfortable. I'm open with my friends, of course, but once they learned all they needed to know about me... I... mostly stopped talking."

"Even of one knows what you want them to know, they're still willing to learn about you," Chrys offered with a soft smile.

"I guess so. Not saying I'm ungrateful for my friends. They've... practically become my new family." Toby shrugged a little and momentarily changed the subject to state. "So, uh... do we know where we're going? I live in the apartment complex, but... I've never really walked around the city before, so..."

"Yeah," Chrys offered. "I walk by there all the time."

"Heheh... Okay, good..." Toby chuckled a little, then went silent, a calm grin on his face.
He wasn't sure what else to say. After such a great day, he was feeling a bit tired. Overwhelmed. Not in any negative light, though. Simply like the release of tension after the climax. Like taking a breath and staring out at the Philadelphia cityscape after trekking up the museum stairs. He was tired, but satisfied. And... Chrys's hand felt warm in his. Secure.
