The Christmas season had always been a time with a great deal of personal value to Alex. It was the time of year he got to spend time with family, the time of year they could grow closer together and bond. It was just a magical season in that regards... The party yesterday had been a great little get-together that allowed his household to meet a whole slew of new characters and let them form new bonds. Whether it be with the monsters from Undertale, those gem ladies... Or even with Bayonetta herself, which had been quite the surprise for a number of people involved.
Still, the house was empty now. Lizzie and Ryan had decided to go with Forsaken, Ruby and Weiss back to their apartment and continue spending time together. He was more then sure he had heard some things about them planning a video game competition between each other...
So as thus, right there in the dining room, after having cleaned up the cleaned out plates that were once full of food, Alex and Yang sat next to each other, with a decorative cake sitting on the table before them. They had the house all to themselves, and the rest of the night to celebrate the day quickly incoming.
"With this cake, I can safely say we've finally cleaned out my old snack storage space." The tone was almost bitter. "This is the final cake my mom made for me and the others. Once we eat this it's gone... And yet if we don't eat it, it'll eventually go bad... Then what would the point have been?" ....... He lets out a breath and looks to Yang. "Sorry...... It's just...."
He missed her.

"You miss her don't you?" she asked as she looked over to him.
Yang gave a side long glance to the table. She knew the feeling. A longing for something long gone. Only difference was her mother was still alive whereas Alex's was gone. This fact seemed to cause a pit in her stomach.

"I don't think I'll ever stop missing her..." he confirmed, letting out a breath... Still... "... I'm sorry, I know it's the Christmas season... I should try to be positive..." He turned to Yang, tearing up but smiling. "Besides... She'd be happy if she knew I was doing okay without her here..."

Yang gave a soft smile before pulling her thief close. "I'm here if you need a pair of pillows," she offered before kissing his forehead.

Alex blushed a bit at the terminology... However, being pulled close it was easy to feel said pillows against his chest... When he wrapped his arms around her too, he could vaguely hear feel her heart beat. "....... Thanks Yang. I'm... Grateful to have you around too. You and Todd have been a big help in helping me and Lizzie settle in here."
... He pulls away a bit, looking down. "I'm also thankful to you for... Well... Giving me a chance like you did... Lord knows I haven't made it easy for you at times."

Yang gave a small soft smile. "I'm grateful you did the same for me. And no. It wasn't easy.... At times....I feared you were gone for good..." she softly replied. Her eyes looked over to the side as she mentioned this.
Yang quietly held Alex. Her heart raced slightly as the gears turned in her mind. A fear was creeping in- a fear of being left behind.

He noticed this, taking her in with sympathy and uncertainty. "If you want to talk about something Yang... My ear's always open you know..."
.... An arm unwrapped from Yang... But before she could miss it, she felt the hand on her cheek, gently turning her eyes back to him. "Come on Yang, We've always talked to each other if something was bothering us. You could always talk to me. So.... Please?"

Yang bit her lip. The blonde brawler seemed nervous to speak as she took a breath.
"Those days while you were gone.... even with Rubles and Weiss there while Todd stayed with Forsaken... It felt like I was losing another person in my life... And I hadn't felt that pain since the day we learned of Summer's death... I learned that day that Summer wasn't my blood mother..." Yang offered softly. Her words were slow and tears were welling up in her eyes.

................
... The young man proceeded to hold Yang even closer, letting her head rest on his shoulder, and his on hers. "....... I see..."
It seemed... So much of the drama in his life was centered around his Grimdark form, the powers it promised, but the level of control he lost during it. It had already complicated his life twice during his time here on the island... The second time he imprisoned a person in the void, obliterated a part of the mountain top, terrorized his friends... And he didn't even succeed in defeating the thing that was threatening everyone and trying to kill them. And the first time?
He obliterated most of the city. Sure Yang helped but... His original intentions were to level the island in a misguided attempt to obliterate the game and prevent the next session that was being planned to begin...
That was right...
... The first time it came about had been on Halloween... The second time? He had brought it about on his own in a moment of sheer rage. Grimdark was everybit as much self-destructive as it was helpful.
"You're afraid of losing me." He summarized... "Just like you've lost a number of people in your life up to this point..."
....
His hug slightly tightened, the gentle squeeze coming off as an attempt to comfort her.

Yang reflexively and loosely held Alex close as she seemed to shake with muffled sobs. He could feel a wet warmth on his shoulder as she ler it out.
"Thank you," was a weak and muffled reply as her grip tightened slightly.

.... Really, all the thief could do at that moment was continue holding her. Patting her back now and then, rubbing it as she continued sobbing...
Grimdark had caused so much trouble... At least back then, he could conceivably protect it with the excuse that is had been protecting his friends. Back then, the horror-terrors were incomprehensible and odd... But they wanted to help him defeat Raven (and even when they didn't succeed they still managed to protect the other players from him), they helped him defeat the Lich (And their role had been brief since their dark energy only encouraged the Lich). They weren't really good creatures, but their interests aligned with his... At least from time to time.
Now though....
Now he was glad they seemed to be shut out.... But for how long?
"..... It'll be okay. Yang....... It'll be okay."

Yang looked at him. "I'm sorry for this..." she whispered before kissing his cheek. She was still bleary eyed but looked thankful for hearing his words. "And I'm sorry for the wet spot on your shirt..."
Mentally she was thankful that Lizzie and Ruby were somewhere else.
"Anything bugging you?" Yang asked as she wiped away the last of her tears.

........ Alex let out a breath.... "... The last thing I want to do to you after everything that's occurred is worry you... I... I want to do something about my GrimDark state... Maybe... Find some way to get rid of it." He looks to her with a serious straight face... "I can't... I can't keep depending on my anger and some eldritch abominations to keep busting me out of my own problems... I... HAVE to find my own way..... I just... Wish I knew how...."

Yang nodded and rested her forehead against his. She was quiet for a few ticks of the clock.
"Even with that you're still the greatest thing in my life... And I wish I knew how to help..." she offered after a bit of silence.

..... Alex smiled to her...
Then kissed her full on the lips, taking in the taste, the soft feel, one hand ran through Yang's blonde hair gently and rubbed her back, while the other rubbed down her arm to take the hand perpendicular to it. The Heavenly bliss seemed to calm him a great deal.. Same for Yang...
....
When at last the two separated, Alex gave her another of his gentle and warm smiles. ".... I'm sure the answer will come to us one day... But... For now... How about we just enjoy today?" He looks around a moment. "I think this is the first time we've gotten some time solely to ourselves in quite a while." That was true. Even during their first date at Movie night, they had to concern themselves with Lizzie sleeping upstairs and, as thus, had to keep the movie, along with their commentary, turned down at least somewhat.
Tonight though? Tonight this place was entirely empty, save for them.
