"Okay, okay, I'm sorry!" Swift laughed, flopping over and lying on top of Evan, her chin resting on his chest as she looked up at him with a smirk. "You said the word 'tickle' and I couldn't help but jump on that opportunity. I don't see why we can't find some sort of humor in the situation we've been handed."

Evan skeptically raised an eyebrow at her. "I think you might be enjoying this a little too much. I mean yeah, I'm willing to at least put myself at ease for the time being, but do we have to make a big deal out of my... ugh... ampleness one way or the other?"

"Hey, what can I say?" Swift chuckled as she rolled over, settled back into the bed by Evan's side and once again pressed herself against him. "You're just so darn cuddly. Can't blame me for wanting to cozy up to this business, can you?"

Somewhere deep down inside, Evan wanted to be annoyed by the fact that he had essentially been reduced to a six-foot teddy bear. And yet, much to his own surprise, his reaction to Swift's affections was a snort and a stiff chuckle. As she huddled up against him again, he resumed his previous position with his arm around her, completing the embrace. "Okay, fine. I will concede that I am cuddly if that's what makes you happy. Enjoy it while you can, I guess."
His smile then dropped as he opted to change the subject. Despite his and Swift's attempts at being sweet, Evan had to admit this was getting a little too weird for his tastes. "So... what happened today? What do you think happened to Rainflower?"

Swift let out a dejected sigh. "I don't know... and that's what worries me the most. Knowing that they could be anywhere, constantly out of reach, and yet it always feels like they're right around the corner, waiting to spring something on me out of nowhere as per usual. And I mean it. The entire time I was running around those caverns, I kept on picking up their scent, both fresh and lingering at completely sporadic intervals, and yet I never caught a glimpse of them. On top of that, almost every time I picked up their trail, I was confronted by this giant monster that constantly tried to friggin' eat me."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, WHAT??" This was definitely news to Evan, and startling news at that. "I-I knew that there were weird creatures living in those caves, but... you were seriously almost eaten?!"

"At least seven times..." Swift grumbled. "And it was always the same monster going at it too. Some kinda Stegosaurus-looking thing with a lamprey head and a mane full of tentacles. I have no idea what its deal was or if it had anything to do with Rainflower, but it only ever gave me the impression that it was just a dumb animal looking for a meal. Talking to it accomplished nothing."

"Well... I'm... glad to see that you got outta that in one piece," Evan offered, wanting to avoid sounding insensitive despite not knowing how to react. Somewhere in the back of his mind, the description of the beast stuck out as something that should've felt familiar, even if he wasn't sure how.
"But... if you kept running into it right when you were picking up the strongest traces of Rainflower's scent, then there's gotta be some sort of connection. What if... What if that was Rainflower under the effects of one of their potions?"

Swift shrugged. "I know it's plausible... Forsaken offered that suggestion herself. We even tried approaching it from that angle, but... well, like I said, it didn't listen when we tried to talk to it. The only thing keeping me from buying into that theory entirely is the fact that last night, I distinctly remember hearing its roars both before and during my meeting with Rainflower in their usual form. And no, I'm not mistaken; the noises were exactly the same."

"Yeah, that complicates matters..." Evan mulled it over a bit more. "There could just be more than one of those creatures living down there. Granted, you likely would have seen them if there were, since it seems like you just kept running into the same one over and over. Potentially. Honestly, you'd know better than I would on that front."
He paled up slightly. "Oh geez... If that really was Rainflower in some sort of altered state, I have no idea how we'd get them back to normal... and by extension, me."

"Well..." Swift nuzzled her cheek against Evan's chest in an effort to calm him. "Maybe Van and I can try communicating with it again if and when we run into it tomorrow. ...Assuming it doesn't try to chow down on us at the same time, just like every other attempt to talk it down."

Evan worriedly gazed down at her. "So that's it? You're just gonna charge back into those caves heedless of some unknown beast that you know for certain can and would eat you?"

"What, you want me to go back on my promise?" Swift warmly returned his gaze. "Whether they're hiding, lost, actively evading us, or trapped in some monstrous form, I have to find Rainflower for you. Isn't that what you want?"

For a moment, Evan could only anxiously stare at Swift, very clearly conflicted and concerned. Then he wrapped his free arm around her and pulled her into a hug. "I appreciate the effort, Swift, I really do... but if there's something legitimately dangerous after you, I don't wanna toss you into the lion's den just to find a crazy fairy for my sake."

"Evan, I've taken on bigger and badder monsters and you know it," Swift insisted with a relaxed grin, wrapping her arms as far around his waist as she could get them. "I can handle this thing. And the rest of us on the hunt... they can handle it too. Besides, if it really is Rainflower, we kinda have to."
She pulled away and smiled at him. "I told you I wanted you to be happy. What kind of girlfriend would I be if I didn't at least try to remedy the dilemma I've gotten you into?"
