Full Name: Coin Pearl
Nickname(s): Blue Pearl, Blue, BP, Blue Diamond's Pearl
Age: ~1000
Height: 5'8", though this is arbitrary
Weight: Technically? 10 ounces.
Gender: Non-binary femme (she/her)
Race: Gem
Alliance: Homeworld(?)
Home: The Gem Homeworld, at Blue Diamond's side
Franchise: Steven Universe
Physical Description
With a blue tinge to her skin, and thin birdlike limbs, the gem dancer gives off an air of some ethereal spirit, some ghostly maiden. Her hair, wavy and soft, covers her eyes, a different shade of blue from her skin. Shorter in the back, but still long enough to have a few springing curls. Other than that, everything about her is stereotypically Pearl - big thin elegant nose, round chin and long neck. Typically, Pearls are taller, to show off their beautiful legs and flowing garb. However, Blue Diamond requested that she become shorter, to maintain dominance over her. Still, comparatively tall.
She wears a thin dress, gripping her chest for dear life to not slip away. If her body was not a hologram, and her clothes already formed too close to remove, her dress surely would fall off all the time. It cuts at the tops of her thighs, like a leotard, and from her waist continues a transparent gossy skirt. It reaches about her knees. She wears no shoes of any kind.
Her gem is located in the center of her chest, right at the top of her sternum. Perfectly circular, but a bit flat.
There are also pictures below.
Weapons and Accessories
Supposedly, she can summon a weapon from her gem. She's never done this. She doesn't want to try.
Abilities/Powers
As all gems do, she's able to retreat into her gem and recover if too badly wounded, and adjust her appearance in this interim. She's also able to project images from her gem - memories, images, messages. She often used this to communicate with others discreetly during times when she wasn't permitted to speak. She's very unsure of her own capabilities, and hasn't explored much into what she can do - not built for fighting.
Weaknesses
Very soft-spoken, and submissive to and intimidated by gems stronger than her. Which would be all of them. She's never summoned her gem weapon, and never really been from underneath Blue Diamond's wings. Very unsure of herself, and this lends to the fact that she's easily popped already, due to her gem quality.
Skills
Nimble, graceful, well exercised. Adept at dance, and a naturally soothing air about her. Knows how to make herself seem as nonthreatening as possible. Quite clever, and quite skilled at making herself seem unclever.
Personality
Meek and timid, she hardly speaks. Easily frightened, easily popped. A bit of a shrinking violet. As she's been an ornament her whole existence, it's hard for her to believe that anyone would find her valuable as more than a trinket. She attempts to bottle up all her emotions, because an emotionless face is more beautiful. What need does Homeworld have for emotions?
It's none of her business to have opinions, but Coin believes that everyone is good. She holds nothing against those who hurt her - it's what she deserves, after all. She fully believes it's her own fault that she was made a Pearl, even if that makes no sense. She also tends to absorb other's emotions - if you're happy, she's happy. She just doesn't know how to feel about situations, now that she's allowed to feel.
She's heard other Diamond's talks with Blue Diamond, and sometimes they call her Hope. She doesn't call Blue Diamond this name out loud, but she does in her head. Her voice is quiet, whispery, soft. She naturally falls into ballet poses when standing idly.
History
Coin Pearl was synthesized on Homeworld, one of the last before the Kindergarten Interim. As a Pearl, her fate was to be an entertainer for an aristocratic gem. But she was made a bit malformed, ideally circular but not spherical, a bit flat on either side. She was told that her flatness downgraded her quality, that she'd be lucky if even an Apatite looked her way. However, it was this feature that caught the eye of Blue Diamond. It made her unique, interesting. A collector's item. The flat surface let her gem catch the light better, shining and smooth like a mirror, or a coin.
She served by Blue Diamond's side, like a delicate figurine, for more time than she could keep track of. She'd been with the Diamond for more time than she'd been without. Many called her Blue Pearl, unaware she was given another name. As Blue Diamond's favorite Pearl, she didn't do much, just stand by her canopy and look pretty. She danced when she was told, she bowed when she was told, she did what was asked of her, and nothing more, nothing less. Dull, but it was what she was made for.
By Blue Diamond's side, she witnessed amazing things. Nothing she could share, or be expected to be interested in, but nonetheless amazing. She saw planets fall against the will of the Diamonds and Homeworld. She saw the rise, betrayal, and fall of Rose Quartz. She saw the beginning of a revolution. She saw the fusion of the aristocrat, Sapphire, with one of her lowly Ruby guards, into Garnet. She saw a renegade Pearl, fighting against Homeworld.
It was all well and good, but still, Coin was a mere observer. She was made to be an ornament, to stay by Blue Diamond's side, through victory or defeat. She didn't dream of a free life. She didn't. She didn't. It wouldn't be proper. She didn't daydream of being like that renegade Pearl, she didn't daydream at all, daydreaming didn't suit a Pearl.
One day, she could no longer be by Blue Diamond's side. A scientist type of gem, Coin can't remember their cut, came into the court one day. They said that some sort of rift, or portal, had opened. Blue Diamond asked why they weren't studying it already, and the scientific gem said it seemed unsafe. There was silence, and Blue Diamond looked at Coin. "Take my Pearl," the Diamond had said. "Throw her in it. If she lives, study it." Coin had never been more terrified in her existence. She went willingly, and they pushed her into the portal, and she, she didn't die. She didn't die. She was just, somewhere strange...
Other
As we have seen only 5 seconds of Blue Pearl in canon, pretty much all of this is headcanon.
Yes, this is the canon character Blue Pearl. I found it necessary to give her a nickname-name, in the event that someone submits the canon character Pearl, to avoid confusion. Also, Blue Pearl is a bit of a mouthful, and boring.
