"Yes," Souji said. He still had a tight grip on his sword. "This is Tohru Adachi, otherwise known as the murderer I helped bring to justice."
Adachi shrugged. "I don't deny it. But I did my time in jail, and now I'm here for some reason."
Souji's eyes drifted to the gun holstered at Adachi's waist. How had he gotten a gun again... with his record, Adachi shouldn't have been able to get a gun. "I still don't forgive you," Souji said. "You said it yourself. You may have been possessed, but those were your own choices."
K1 had approached the group by this point, and was staring, almost glaring, at Adachi. This guy looked nice, but from how Souji was talking about him, he was bad news.

Atem had gotten to glaring, but he suddenly looked surprised. That... wasn't good. Yuugi looked worried, but it was from the situation, not what Atem had seen.
"Seta-kun, I don't think the Island knows," Atem propped the katana against the ground and gestured towards Adachi's pocket. There was something gold and shining sticking up from it.
Needless to say, if it was what Atem thought it was it didn't bode will for the trio of teens. However, if Adachi had observational skills of his own, he'd notice the open tops of two of Atem's vest pockets. One had a deck of cards, nothing to be impressed about. But the blue back of the single card in the other pocket...
(OOC: The image would be blank with Atem active. Its a decision I made, but none of the characters know it yet. But what's visible is the top bit of the back, so it doesn't really matter. XD)

Souji's eyes moved to the golden object sticking out of Adachi's pocket. His eyes narrowed. "Why do you even still have that?! They should have taken it from you when you got carted off to jail." Oh, he was angry. Adachi had been so nice to him and Dojima for so long... and then he had shown his true colors. Now that Adachi had shown up now after so long, acting like this was nothing... it didn't seem right to Souji.
Adachi's eyes had meanwhile drifted to the card in Atem's pocket. It resembled the ones that Souji and his friends had used before during their fight. Which meant that this kid with the impossibly spiky hair could use one of those "Persona" things. Adachi had only ever used his once, and he'd never used the cards either.
K1 was still making sure Adachi didn't go anywhere. He had opened his COMP earlier, so he could summon a demon on the fly.

Atem could have done something he hadn't in a while. The completely nonchalant way Adachi was acting... he was rather tempted. And unlike a sword or a demon, it wouldn't leave any obvious evidence. You don't exactly blame others when someone went delusional. But he knew Yuugi wouldn't approve, even though he could tell his partner was angry upon realizing who Adachi was. Atem had also not missed the way Adachi's eyes had wandered.
"Seta-kun, calm down," he didn't sound very convinced that it was the right course of action, "If he has a badge he might be with the police on the Island."
It wasn't like dirty cops were unheard of. Atem had been involved in things like corporate backstabbing. The evidence indicated Kaiba was more than partially responsible for his own adopted father's suicide. There were people in society that couldn't be touched. It was infuriating, but it was the way it was.
"The best option would be a Game of Darkness, partner."
"No!" Yuugi shook his head quickly, "I mean... I get how you feel but... I mean..." the teen in the Puzzle couldn't come up with a good argument beyond not wanting Atem to do that. Ever again.
During the internal conversation, Atem kept his glare on the man. Their hands were tied...

Souji kept glaring up at Adachi, but he had to agree with Atem. If Adachi had somehow managed to join up with the police again here, unless he did something horrible, like murdering someone again, they didn't have to worry...
He looked up. "Answer me this. Did you kill the manager of the Haagen-Dazs at El Grande Mall?" Souji asked.
"Huh?" Adachi asked. Souji was having a hard time staying patient with Adachi. But he had to. It hadn't been too hard to trick Adachi into saying something incriminating before, and it wouldn't be too hard to do it again.
"The manager of the Haagen-Dazs at El Grande Mall was found dead recently. He was hanging upside-down from a cell phone tower. Just like the people you killed." What Souji had neglected to mention was the fact that the manager had been found with his neck sliced open, so it fit a copycat murder more than what Adachi had done. But even so, he had to investigate all angles.
While Souji asked this, he noticed Adachi's hand moving to his gun. "Don't even think about it, Adachi. You're outnumbered, and you don't have Ameno-Sagiri to help you this time." Adachi had a bit of a wry smile on his face. He hated to admit it, but Souji was right.

Atem's fingers twitched when he saw Adachi reaching for his gun. He wasn't able to preven just enough movement to indicate to a very observant person that he hadn't been about to reach for the pocket with the Arcana card. He'd been about to reach towards the vest pocket with the deck of cards. He managed to keep his usual unreadable expression, but he had to pray Adachi was too busy being concerned over Souji to notice.
The thing was, if Adachi was good at quick draws there was a chance the man could have shot Souji before much could have been done. The fact that he had hesitated was an extremely good sign to Atem. And he didn't seem to realize he wasn't the same person as Yuugi. Another good sign. From what he could infer about the situation, Adachi would have no problem taking the Puzzle to prevent the dormant personality from surfacing. The TV World had shown that it could force the dormant one out of the Puzzle. A Support Persona was needed to leave the TV World.
It would be very bad if he figured it out and decided a good way to handle things would be to toss the Puzzle into the TV World...
(OOC: HINT HINT. XD Although for the plot to work it needs to happen when Atem's the dormant one. X3)

((Ooc: Which means not until nighttime again. XD))
Adachi stepped back. "I-I told you! I've got nothing to do with this one! Besides, the body was found with its throat cut out, wasn't it?"
Souji didn't relax. "Well, at least you know that much. And besides... you only targeted women anyways." Technically, Adachi had also tried to kill Mitsuo Kubo, the copycat killer, as well, but the Investigation Team had managed to save Mitsuo that time. "Fine then. Go do whatever you came here to do, Adachi. Just know, I'm watching you." He didn't stop glaring at Adachi as the man started backing away, and eventually turning around to briskly walk into the main office of the complex. Souji watched him walk away the whole time, not loosening the grip on his sword.

Atem relaxed a bit and sighed. He didn't know if he could have prevented himself from snapping had the situation been reversed. Even with Yuugi there. He made sure Adachi was gone before speaking again. He glanced at K1, thankful the situation had diffused before things got to a point that couldn't be taken back.
"Are you going to be alright, Seta-kun? K1-kun?"

Souji nodded. "Sorry. I just didn't expect Adachi to be here. If it hadn't been for that murder the other day..." He was still gripping the sword rather tightly, and his palms were red and sore from it. K1 noticed it, but didn't mention anything.
"...Let's go get Yuugi a sword that he can use, then," K1 said, trying to change the topic.

Atem also noticed Souji's palms, but like K1 knew the better course of action was to not say anything. Souji's comments about Temu had been weighing down on his mind before Adachi showed up, he chose to focus on them. The teen might have a point about forcing him out, but he and Yuugi would have been killed that night if he hadn't done it. He couldn't clearly remember where Souji had been on the field. It was possible the teen didn't realize it.
He nodded at K1's topic change, "With training I might be able to use this, but I'd be at a disadvantage. And the reason I want my partner to have a weapon is so we can fight with Nefertum active. I can't say for sure, but I don't think the one in the Puzzle can have their Persona summoned."
He waited for Souji to respond. He wanted to hand the blade back to the silver haired teen. However, the teen had his deathgrip on his own weapon.

Souji nodded, and finally loosened the grip on his claymore as he did so, having finally noticed how tightly he was gripping the sword. "That seems likely. Plus, you're currently out of the fight since you don't have one of those Evoker things." Those Evokers rubbed Souji the wrong way. It seemed wrong to him to put a gun to his head to fight. The Tarot Cards seemed much safer.
"I'll go return the katana to my room, and meet the two of you down here in a few minutes, then," Souji said.

Atem nodded, letting Souji take the weapon. He watched the teen walk off before his stance shifted. Yuugi turned to K1, but he seemed a little concerned, "I hope we don't run into him much... the other me won't admit it but he's just as bothered as Seta-kun seems to be. He was really thinking about doing something he hasn't done in over a year... Um, I don't know if you know about it, but he basically causes someone's mind to snap..."
Yuugi was fidgeting really badly at this point. He seemed frightened.

K1 twitched. "...What do you mean?" he hesitantly asked.
---------------
Souji and Adachi both arrived at their rooms at the same time. In fact, they were right across the hall from each other.
Souji had the katana at Adachi's throat at the moment. "...Listen, Adachi. I don't want to catch you doing any funny stuff. The police here may not know about your history, but I do. And so help me, if I catch you doing anything-- anything --related to the murders and the TV World again, I will haul you off to the station and tell them everything about you." Souji threatened.
A bead of sweat ran down Adachi's forehead. "They won't believe you," Adachi said. Souji pressed the tip further up against Adachi's throat.
"Any more than they will you, 'rookie?'" Souji asked, using the term he'd heard Dojima and the others at the police station use to refer to Adachi. He lowered the sword. "Fine. Go do whatever you were doing. Just know. I have my eye on you, Adachi."
Souji headed on into the apartment.

Yuugi fidgeted, "He basically traps someone inside illusions created by their own inner darkness. It kind of takes a while to explain... but its a power all the Millenium Items have. Most people can't recover from it..."
What made matters worse is it reminded Yuugi a little much of the way the Shadows acted in the TV World. The inner darkness of a person killing them. His other self didn't cause death with his illusions, but sometimes Yuugi thought it would be more merciful. He'd only known a handful of people to recover from the effects of the Mind Crush or Penalty Games. They'd all had a connection to the Items in some form or another, actually.
Yuugi was really flustered, not even thinking that K1 might not know there was more than the Millenium Puzzle in terms of items. All his friends back home knew about them, it was something Yuugi took for granted. It probably wouldn't please K1 too much to know that there were more items other than the Puzzle. It was possible he'd make the mistake of thinking they all held other presences like Atem's Puzzle...

K1's face drained of color. "...You mean that's not the only one out there? And they can all do that?" He seemed more than a bit afraid at this. Perhaps it was the similarity to what he'd heard of the Shadows in the TV World.
Up on a balcony, Adachi was listening in on their conversation. It was a good thing he'd gotten an apartment that opened up to the front of the complex. That puzzle thing sounded dangerous. At least Seta would kill him. This puzzle would make him go insane. And with how Seta had been acting, it wouldn't be long before the spirit inside the puzzle trapped him in one of those illusions. He'd have to get rid of it, first and foremost.
