Magus hopped down from the nearly charcoalled tree. The treeline had been disturbingly empty... at least of castles. Some of the buildings in the distance had reminded the blue-haired man of the far future. But certainly not Guardia. The castle was not there.
He had begun to suspect after teleporting himself rather painfully to the mountains. That were vaguely reminiscent of Death Peak. Minus the Lavos larva, but close enough that it was entirely possible he had arrived in the future.
If he was still in his world. He didn't like to admit the possibility, but the energy flowed differently here. As he had been walking the edge of the island, the void he had looked into reminded him of his Black Hole spell. And not in a good way. The End of Time where Gaspar had been sent to after being ejected from Zeal was similar. This endless void...
Anyone in the scene would have found a large portion of burnt forest. A rather muscular fellow with skin the color of dead flesh, long blue hair and the type of elven ears only seen in anime. And all that wasn't even his most intimidating feature. The scythe he held was close, but it was his piercing gaze...
He landed well as he jumped from the tree. He looked around. Another world... what were the odds? Could Schala be here? Perhaps this is where Lavos relegated those it had tired of to? Chrono and his friends had defeated Lavos, but... that should have solved the time and space anomalies. Not added to them...
He held his scythe under his arm and tugged on one of his gloves. Even the kingdom he had once been prince of would have had trouble figuring this out. Lucca might know, she was always more science than he had ever dreamed of. He specialized in magic and had never been one for the books, although the teachings of his tutors had drilled a fair amount of knowledge into him.
Once his gloves were adjusted he turned. Who knew where he needed to go next but he knew one thing... he needed to go...

As it was, right nearby someone was sleeping under a tree. Someone whose name also happened to be able to be shortened to Tree. What were the odds? Next to her was a ghost gerbil, who carried a scythe as well, albeit a smaller one, as well as a large fish, who was sleeping as well. And very visibly breathing despite being on dry land. It made a very bizarre picture.
As it was, she was on the move again. She'd forgotten that Void City was where the HQ of those vile creatures was. So for now it was time for the very long journey all around the island to stay safe. Always moving. No, it wasn't a very fun thing to do, but she had no choice. After all, she had made the creatures mad in the first place.
So, as it was, she and her party were pretty much unaware of the approaching Magus.

Magus possessed a high degree of situational awareness, so he was more than aware of the "Mystic" and its companions. Still, it was a manner of live and let live, so he chose not to make any comments about that. If he was in the far future, it was entirely possible the history texts had forgotten him. Chrono's reaction to him had been horribly colored by Glenn, and talking with Lucca had revealed he had been made out to be about as far from human as a monster could be in the texts.
However, if any member of Tree's team could sense magic... Magus pretty much reeked of it. And strong amounts. We're talking "Merlin" levels here to use pseudo-historical references. Magus would react if anything dove at him by going on defensive, but as it were there was no need to react... yet.
And if for whatever reason they would react to not human entities, Magus did look like a rejected Drow elf design... or some thinly veiled copy of a major character of a famous anime...

Tree just rolled over in her sleep, but Snowy sensed Magus incredibly easily, and woke up. She glared at Magus.
"Who're you?" she asked groggily. "Ya sure don't look human..." She lifted her own scythe, and then glowed with a light. In a flash, instead of a ghost gerbil standing in front of Magus, therer was a woman. It rather resembled a corpse wearing a caped little black dress with gerbil ears and a tail.
"You ain't with the Doppelgangers, are you?" Snowy asked.

"I'm just passing through, I don't want a fight," he replied. Oddly not in the least bit phased by Snowy, "I do not know what these Doppelgangers you speak of are. Excuse me,"
He tried to push his way past, but would not be surprised if he passed through the corpse-like creature. Nor would he be caught off guard if she attempted to attack him. For those that knew the stance of people accustomed to battle, the man had it.
No reply to the human question, however. Its not like the Mystic had any right to ask. It was flagrantly not human. On that note, Magus disliked having to explain he was human...

Snowy moved out of the way of Magus, and then poked Tree with the tip of the scythe. "Hey. Tree. Wake up."
"Dun wanna..."
"Wake up or I'll make you wake up." Snowy said sternly.
"-Yawn- Fine..." Tree sat up and stared at Magus. "Who's that?"
"Dunno. But he seems suspicious." Snowy said. "Grab Todd."
"Fi-- -yawn- --ne..." Tree said, and picked up her fish before standing up.

Magus had paused. They weren't going to let this be, it seemed. He glanced back, allowing his peripheal vision to pick up on their movement without him having to turn his head. He gently set his scythe against the tree and muttered under his breath. They could probably see his hands moving and might even be able to guess it was something arcane or occult... but unless they knew the magic of Zeal, they would know know what he was doing... and he was speaking so muted the chances of them hearing were pretty much nil. It was gibberish, anyhow.
(OOC: The next turn, even if Tree lauches at him, he'll have a Magic Barrier set up. Basically just a shield that greatly reduces damage caused or aided by magical effects. Energy shield over himself only.
I never use this attack in game, but he sure is spamming it on the island. XDD
Also, in terms of magical weapons, it merely takes the "magic" aspect out. Armor piercing blades would be merely blades, swords aflame with fire would have greatly reduced magic but would still work like a sharp sword, etc.)

"He stopped." Tree said. "Alright! I love a good fight in the morning!" She looked down at Todd before looking back at Magus. "Hey, you wanna fight, you'll get one!"
"Yeah, foo!" Todd said. The two of them ran right at Magus, and Tree brought Todd right down on Magus' head.
Snowy couldn't help but facepalm. So much for espionage.

Magus sighed. They were as bad as Chrono. And during that fight, he was rather convinced it had only been the Masamune that had saved the behinds of those teens and that annoying frog. He seemed to be unaware of the impending attack until rather quickly he ducked and spun his leg around in an attempt to trip the "Mystic". In the same action he vaulted into the air, his hand grabbing his scythe as he did so. He landed several feet away from the group, his hands clenched around the scythe. It was quite obvious he knew how to use the black bladed weapon.
"I am really not in the mood to fight," he stated flatly, seemingly... well, bored with the display.
He waited for the "Mystic" to make her next move. If she tried something that blatent again, he'd leap into the trees to better perform a spell. With the concealment, he had a chance. He was however, not unaware of the gerbil-girl. He had a feeling she had the best battle sense of the group, although it was entirely possible he was midjudging based on her obvious magic as opposed to the others.
(OOC: "Mystic" is what he's calling Tree in his mind, btw. Also, its PAINFULLY obvious the guy knows how to fight. And if Snowy can read people, its equally as obvious he WILL (attempt) to kill Tree if he has to. No hesitation present there.)

"Geez, then why'd you go parading around here like you wanted to in the first place, anyways?" Tree asked. Though it was hard to see through her incredibly thick glasses, she was pumped for a fight; her eyes had turned yellow from the surge of doom energy Todd was giving her.
Snowy sighed. "Tree, this guy will slaughter you if you fight him."
"No he won't! I've fought ghosts, gods, girl scouts, and green aliens, I think I can handle some drow wannabe," Tree said.
"He already said he's not in a mood to fight," Snowy said sternly.
"I haven't gotten to fight a non-doppelganger in a long time anyways," Tree said.

"You should listen to her," the "Drow wannabe" said as he launched into the air... and vanished?
It wasn't a spell, just Magus' ability to take advantage of the situation. He had concealed himself in the trees and was chanting a spell. He'd fire a warning shot. Ice, as to not damage the area... and he would not take the blame if Tree ran into the area he was aiming for. It was past where he had been standing.
If anyone did get caught in the spell, they'd feel roughly as if a giant snowball had smacked them upside the head. And being the spell it was, he'd hit anyone in six feet of the direction he was aiming to center the spell. The edge would hit just past where he had been standing.
Snowy was likely the only one that could stop the spell right now, and only from being able to tell where the mage was by his aura. It was of the shadowed variety, and not just of "dark". But of emotional clouding. He didn't care what a "Drow" was or what the "doppelgangers" were. He just wanted to make a point with one of his quicker spells. Snowy was right. Magus would slaughter them.
(OOC: That comment on auras. If anyone in the group can read emotional auras, Magus' is VERY clouded. A lot more than what his surface reveals, and a healthy dose of guilt/regret is one of the bigger emotions.
Also, I'm pressing the "slaughter" factor because you as the player implied he'd kick their asses.)

Tree stood and watched the spell, leading to Snowy having to push her out of the way and use her scythe to block the spell.
"If you're going to fight this guy, then stop standing around!" Snowy yelled.
"Sorry... I'm just still tired..." Tree said. "And my head hurts.
"That's because you still have a hangover from the night before." Snowy said, still blocking the spell.
"Your fault for letting me drink that much," Tree said. Todd nodded.
"Can we do this later!?" Snowy yelled. "You got us into a fight, for god's sake! We hardly have the time to sit around chatting!"

Magus was mildly startled by Snowy's ability to block the spell. Correction. He appeared mildly startled. He was outright impressed. He paused for a moment and then jumped from the trees in front of Snowy, prepared to leap back if she swung at him.
"Hold up," he said, "I meant it when I said I'm not in the mood for fighting. You," he pointed at Tree, "Are insulting both of us by fighting in your condition. I would like to avoid pointless deaths," he still looked defensive, "But I'll tell you right now. You press this and I will kill you."
He glanced at Snowy. Tree and the odd weapon he could easily sidestep. But the gerbil-girl-ghost appeared she might actually be worth something. Her insistance on protecting her team mates would be how he'd win if it came to that....
What was so truly scary was that this figure obviously had no doubt he could win. And it didn't reek of over confidence, it smelled of fact. He had mowed down entire armies for his purposes...
The group was lucky his time with Crono had lightened his view of things a bit. Before he'd met them... he wouldn't have stopped had this fight occured before then. Even if he'd gotten himself killed in the process.

Finally, Snowy had enough of Tree's crap, and kicked her into a tree. "Go back to sleep."
"NEVER!" Tree screamed. Snowy sighed, and turned to face Magus.
"Can we just stop this fight here and now? It wouldn't be good if she got killed just because she's a stupid idiot who picks fights with everyone," Snowy said. "And it looks like at the moment you could overpower her anyways." At the moment. What a choice of words.

The careful word choice was not lost on Magus, but he chose to let that lie. His stance softened a bit, and Snowy probably realized it was just the way the man held himself rather than continued tension at the situation. He gestured towards Tree, but it was clear as he spoke who he considered the real battler in the group to be.
"As long as she doesn't try to attack me, we can consider the situation dropped," he thought for a moment before continuing, "She seems a bit apprehensive of these 'doppelganger' creatures... are they really that much to be concerned about?"
As it were, he had found something to focus on. If they were really as fearsome as the "Mystic" seemed to think, chances were he needed to look into them. As for why, his vote was still out. His eyes were pretty unreadable beyond the fact that lots of things were going through the mage's mind as he stared Snowy in the eyes.
