Snowy sighed. "They're people. Rather, they look like people, but they aren't. They're really monsters. And she made them mad.
"That's the Cliff's Note's version. Basically, the doppelgangers are these monsters that can turn into people. Their aim is to take over the multiverse. They're super strong, can absorb people, can perfectly mimic people... and Tree made them mad. So for the past few months, she's been on the run from them, because they realized how strong she is, and that her abilities could be useful to their cause, especially since she wields the Slapping Fish of Doom," Snowy said.
"That's me, foo!"
"If you see one, don't try to fight it. Just run," Snowy concluded.

Magus listened, making no indication of his emotions as Snowy explained the situation. They had solidly answered his question. He was in a different world. At least there was enough evidence to safely assume so. Something must have in interacted with the Time Gate as he was passing through.
He acknowledged the "Fish of Doom" as it spoke merely by turning his head. After Snowy warned him against fighting the Dopplegangers, he nodded. Why he was nodding it wasn't clear but those that knew him would guess it wasn't because he was agreeing to not fight them. The conversation had created more issues for him. He didn't really believe the perfect mimicry factor, but it would create complications in finding Schala. However, there was a question that needed asking.
"Does this world draw people to it?" There was a reason for his questioning, but any suspicion would be drawn from context. The mage's eyes were as unreadable as ever.
If this place did draw people to it, Schala could be here. If it was known for drawing people of power to it, it was even more likely Schala was there. But he wouldn't ask that part... at least not yet. No need to make them more suspicious of him than they already obviously were.
Actually, it was possible Tree and Todd were tired of being ignored. Because that's pretty much what Magus was doing, having written them off as little more than baggage to the gerbil girl. He couldn't help but think of Slash and Flea at this point. Although Tree reminded him the most of Ozzie... not a flattering comparison in any way, really.

Tree had gathered up all of their stuff from where she'd left it under the tree. "I dunno. We got teleported here by an orange juice portal."
Snowy sighed. "Probably though. We've seen people from universes we've never heard of here. Like Madotsuki." She looked around. "Oh crap. Where's Madotsuki?"
As it was, the very, very creepy little girl came up behind Magus, and was holding a knife. "Hi mister Magus."

Magus' mind tried to trip over the "orange juice portal" line, but the creepy child's voice subverted that reaction. He turned towards the voice quickly enough that it could have been interperted as surprise. It actually was, but Magus had skills with being caught off guard. In that it rarely effected a fight. Underestimating the opponents skill level would, but not being snuck up on. He hadn't given his name. That was probably the chief cause of the surprise as he turned to look at the owner of the voice.
He took a defensive posture, but it was merely to show the girl that he would kill her if she tried to use that knife on him. No matter how troubled she looked or young she was. Magus had long ago let go of any hesitation over killing due to the apperance of an opponent.

She looked at Magus, and poked him with the knife. She didn't seem to want to cause any harm, and it even looked like she was just trying to examine him. Of course this could be taken the completely wrong way.
After seeing that her knife did nothing, the knife disappeared, and she suddenly gained cat ears and a tail, before walking away and making a meowing sound.
"Um..." Tree said. "Don't mind her, she's odd."

He quickly relaxed and watched her walk off. He muttered something under his breath and it was likely Snowy caught "reminds" and "nu" before he turned to face the gerbil girl again.
"Did something happen to her...?"
There was actually a flicker of emotion as he spoke. Just in his eyes, and it was gone as quick as it had appeared, maybe quicker. He wasn't lying when he said she reminded him of the Nu, an extremely odd race of monsters that seemed to fall outside of normal Mystic categorization. But that shattered innocence reminded him of something more painful... he shook his head.
Perhaps he should ask these people for help. He hated admitting he needed it, but Schala wasn't known for fighting back. He already blamed himself for her fate....

Tree sighed. "In a way. She's a shut-in. Hikkikomori. Whatever you want to call them. Basically, the pressures of everyday life in Japan caused her to just implode in on herself and become withdrawn to her room. She's obsessed with dreams, though, and from what I've managed to figure out, she thinks the island is just part of her dream."
Snowy poofed back into her gerbil form. "Which is probably a good thing. If she realized this was part of real life, she'd probably go insane."
Madotsuki had stopped in place and was still meowing. She seemed to be trying to call Magus closer to her.
((OOC: The Cat Effect makes most NPCs in approach the user. XD Which means anyone trying to use it on Uboa gets a nasty surprise.))

Magus jerked back a little. Dreams. That was a little close to his former home for comfort. The people of Zeal had been obsessed with dreams and the latent power within. It was the pursuit of latent power that had killed his mother before her body was dead. Yes, Magus had actually shown surprise. He was about to respond when he saw the girl motioning to him out of the corner of his eye.
He turned to her and narrowed his eyes. Right now she was smacking more of Nu than he liked. Actually... no, not the Nu. Of Masa and Mune. Two Mystics from his past he didn't have the greatest of relationship with. Well, in his defense they had been a major part of the energy in the sword that almost cost him his life. He took one step forward and stopped.
He wanted to gauge her reaction and was paying more attention than usual to any possible energies around her. The gerbil girl and her friends didn't know this girl as anything but odd... he didn't like the way she was making him think of Zeal. Or the way many of the nobles obsessed over dreams. Even worse, the fact that dreams did have latent power that would swallow the unwary alive... at the very least make them more susceptible to other forces. The Mammon Machine, the pendant, the Masamune... the substance used in all of those did not have the nickname "Dream Stone" for nothing...
For those observing Magus, he had gotten incredibly tense. Interuppting him right now was probably a very bad idea as he focused on the girl. It was also pretty clear he was feeling out the situation.

Madotsuki stopped waving, deciding that the cat effect didn't work either. She walked up to Magus, and her cat ears and cat tail disappeared, and were replaced by a recorder, which she started playing.
"I think she's testing effects on you," Snowy said. She gave a smirk.
"...Nothing's working..." Madotsuki said, defeated. She stared up at Magus. "Oh, that's right!"
The flute disappeared, and suddenly, her head was that of a frog.
"Ooh, that's a new one," Snowy said.

Magus was getting a little irritated by this point. He spoke without turning to Snowy, "And what is she after with these 'effects'?"
Before Snowy had a chance to respond, Madotsuki had turned into a frog. Magus went from annoyed confusion to a glare, and he held out his scythe. He was still in a more defensive warning sort of posture, but it was clear he was reaching the end of whatever patience he had developed for the girl.
"Make your point," he said flatly. He had made a decision due to this recent "trick" of the girl's. It was unclear as to what it was, however...

"Woah, woah!"
"Hey! She's just a kid!"
Madotsuki didn't even flinch at the scythe. She suddenly reached up and pinched her cheek. Which did nothing.
Snowy floated up and landed on Magus' shoulder. "She isn't trying to do anything but get a reaction out of you."

Magus sighed. But at least he lowered his weapon. His eyes flicked to the side. No choice, it seemed.
He kneeled down so he could look Madotsuki in the eyes, and his gaze softened a bit. He actually lost the "if looks could kill you'd be a pile of ashes" expression he generall wore, "You need to wake up. Dreams can do far worse than kill."
It was... gentle? Even more, it seemed to have an ever so faint touch of emotional pain to it, as if he was remembering something. The blue haired mage didn't wait for a response before standing up and taking a step. He'd made a decision. He wouldn't ask the group about who he was looking for. He hoped Madotsuki would find whatever she was looking for before it snapped her mind in two.

Madotsuki kept pinching her cheek. "But... I keep trying! And I never wake up! Besides..." She gave a grin. "There's still so much of my dreams I still have to explore! It's a whole new dream world!"
She giggled. "Once I get done, I've gotta tell Urotsuki about this!"
Tree looked shocked. "Wow. This is the most I've ever heard her say at once!"
Snowy looked down at Madotsuki. "Yeah, no kidding."
((OOC: Urotsuki is the protagonist of the fanmade sequal, Yume 2kki. I've seen more than a few fanarts that show the two of them being at least online friends, SO FRIENDS THEY ARE.))

Magus stopped and looked extremely pained. He made a point of not letting the group see his face, which looked rather grief-stricken. Madotsuki may have been able to see it, however...
Don't cling to false hopes... those hopes have killed entire kingdoms and torn loved ones away from each other...
"I hope you figure things out before its too late," he whispered, hoping only the girl could hear.
And then he walked off. Quickly, hoping that no one would follow.

"W-w-w-w-wait, don't go, Mr. Maguuuus!" Madotsuki yelled, intending to follow after Magus.
And leaving Tree and Snowy in the dust.
"Um..."
"Did she..."
"I think da foo just left us."
Almost immidiately, there was a random window showing up that said "Madotsuki has left the Party."
And then a smaller one that said "and took all equipped items with her."
Tree sweatdropped. "Let's just go..."
"Yeah... We still gotta get to Bonsai Village anyways," Snowy said. And so the three left the area.
