There were no objections, so the group went on to the Shrine. The trip there was uneventful. Atsuro managed to get into a conversation about Duel Monsters with Atem and Yuugi on the bus, and it looked like he was actually genuinely interested in learning how to play. Souji went right back to sleep after they got on the bus, and had to be shaken awake by Teddie after they got to the Shrine.
Atsuro immediately stopped at the entrance just to look up at the torii. He hadn't actually been to a shrine in a long time. The last time he'd been to one, it hadn't been to admire the scenery. He could hear what almost sounded like a party from the top of the stairs. It looked like the festival had already started.
"I can't remember the last time I went to a New Year's festival," Souji commented. "I'm pretty sure everyone dragged me off to the one at Tatsuhime Shrine at last year, but it wasn't anything special."
"...My last New Years wasn't anything special either," Minato said with a fair amount of hesitation. "Anyways, I guess we should find Naoto-tachi and then Kaiba?"
"I want to spend some time with Sayuri if she's not that busy, actually," Souji said.
"I'm fine with whatever you all want to do," Atsuro said.

Actually, the conversation between Atsuro, Atem, and Yuugi had gotten more than a fair bit animated, too. Atem actually laughed at one point during it. Aside from Atsuro's sickly appearance, anyone who noticed the three would have assumed they were just normal teenagers talking about a card game. It really was the most relaxed they'd been in... well... for Atsuro more or less ever, and quite some time for Yuugi and Atem. You couldn't even tell the Egyptian had been a king at one point in his life.
The noise was apparent even before one climbed the stairs. There were people filtering in, and no signs of anyone filtering out. A few kids in kimonos ran past the group, almost knocking Jounouchi over. This caused more chuckles from the group. It wasn't just Atem, Yuugi, and Atsuro that were losing some of their long built up tension here. It was everyone.
Yuugi looked at Souji, "I've... never really been to one at all. Jiichan was usually busy with the shop and my parents both had work."
Jounouchi slapped Yuugi on the back, "Man, you really didn't get out much before, did you?"
"Festivals weren't uncommon in Egypt, but it really wasn't a time to relax for me," Atem said as they walked up the stairs, "I always had to show up as the heir to the throne or the Pharaoh. They were for the people, not the nobility," he looked towards Atsuro and looked a little irritated, "Knowing Kaiba, he isn't here yet. He once used a jetpack to arrive at a tournament."
"If Kaiba's really rereleasing those cards, I want to see the stand for them!" Jounouchi said, "Maybe they'll be people there Duelling!"
Honda made a trigger shape with his finger, "I'm good at the shooting games."

"Me too!" Atsuro said. "Man, I bet everyone here's going to be way better than I am at dueling. I suck, man."
The group headed up the stairs after Atsuro said that. Upon reaching the top, it became pretty evident that this festival was designed around Duel Monsters, and about just how busy Kaiba had gotten. Almost every stand had something Duel Monsters related on it. Some just had posters, some were giving out booster packs, and some were even offering plush monsters as prizes. Despite how early in the morning it was, there was already a large crowd.
Souji didn't get much time to admire this, because the moment he reached the top of the stairs he got barreled over by a large white wolf, who perched herself on top of his chest.
"Did anyone see what hit me...?"
"Hey! Souji! Long time no see!"
A green bug lept up from Amaterasu's fur and started bouncing on Souji's chest. Atsuro blinked, and then he remembered.
"Oh, right, you're Amaterasu! How have you been?" Atsuro bent down and scratched her behind the ears, causing the wolf to leap off of Souji and over toward Atsuro. Souji pushed himself up with an exasperated expression on his face. Minato was the next person to be attacked by some kind of canid as Koromaru ran up to him.
"Yo, Senpai!"
Kanji, Naoto and Anzu had actually been standing nearby the stairs when the others arrived. Koromaru had come with them, and Amaterasu had appeared at some point after then. Naoto walked over and offered her hand to Souji, who gladly took it. She pulled him to his feet.
"Happy birthday, senpai," Naoto said. She released Souji's hand and turned toward the larger group. "We haven't seen Kaiba-san yet, but there definitely seems to be a large focus on Duel Monsters here. I suppose it was true about Kaiba promoting Duel Monsters at this festival."

The group all had to hop to the side as Souji was tackled by the small white wolf. He was probably lucky he hadn't been knocked down the stairs again. There was laughs from the group over it. Yuugi hesitated the most before laughing, but once he was sure Souji was okay he joined in. The group had to split up yet again as Minato was tackled, but at least Koromaru was polite enough to not know the blue haired teenager off his feet. Anzu was waving when Kanji said his greetings to Souji, but she hung back a bit as the three of them ran over.
"If he'd done any more, I'd accuse the guy of setting up a location for a new Kaiba Land!" Jounouchi said, scanning the area. His eyes paused over a sign written in about ten different languages. He scanned over the Japanese part and whistled, "Wow. Yo, Yuugi, check this out!"
Yuugi blinked and trotted over to where Jounouchi was indicating. This caused most of the group to head over, including Anzu. Atem stayed by Atsuro, but one could tell he was keeping most of his focus on Yuugi. Jounouchi pointed at the part he'd read and Yuugi gave a small smile.
"Oh, you guys didn't know that?" Anzu asked, "I heard about it at work. Kaiba's giving a bunch of goodies to kids under thirteen."
"That's definitely Kaiba-kun," Yuugi said. He straightened up, "He'll probably make a big flash about showing up, so we won't miss it. We should probably hang out, okay guys? Atsuro-kun, you're coming with us, right?"
"I want takoyaki!" Teddie exclaimed, throwing his hands into the air.
Atem gave Atsuro a look that indicated Yuugi wouldn't let it rest if he didn't come along. He was stepping forward to join the group from Yuugi's world when he stopped short. His head jerked to the side, and his expression was almost like he'd seen a ghost. Which given recent events was possible, but it was a bigger jump than one might expect from Shadi.

Atsuro blinked at Yuugi's question. It was just as he was opening his mouth to reject Yuugi's offer, he caught Atem's look. He sighed, but looked back toward Yuugi with a smile. "Sure, why not." Amaterasu gave a bark, and it seemed she would be coming along with that group. Issun hopped back onto Amaterasu's back.
"Blondie over there's got the right idea! Ta-ko-ya-ki!" Issun yelled.
Souji turned toward Naoto and Kanji. "Have you seen Sayuri?"
Kanji shrugged. "She's probably off doin' goddess-miko things. Senpai, you really got a thing for her?"
"I don't have to answer that," Souji stated immediately. "Alright, I'll look for her. Thanks anyways." He started walking off in a separate direction from the rest of the group.
The moment Souji got out of earshot, Minato started making his way over to Teddie, but seeing Atem stop made him move toward Atem instead. "Something wrong, Atem?"

Yuugi was smiling, although he looked a little overwhelmed, as almost the entire group made his way to where they were. He was about to suggest a place to go when he saw Atem hesitate and jerk his head to the side. He gave a worried frown, and his gaze caused the others to look towards him. Atem jerked a bit as Minato addressed him and realized everyone was staring at him. He shook his head and forced a smile.
"It's nothing, I thought I saw something, but I think it was just the stress getting to me," which was rather the odd thing for Atem to admit to, "Giving the set up here, I think there's probably a table for teaching how to play. Since Atsuro's interested in learning, we should start there."
There's no way he'd be here... right? Although Mokuba showed up....
Teddie, meanwhile, was looking over at Issun with a puzzled expression. He held out his arms, "A takoyaki ball is bigger than you! How would you even eat one?"

Atsuro frowned at Atem's dodge. Considering things, Atsuro thought it was rather likely Atem had seen something, but he really didn't want to pry. He looked rather excited at the prospect of a learning table, though.
Issun blinked at Teddie's expression. "I cut it into tiny pieces! Duh! And then when I'm done I give the rest to Ammy!" And then, without asking permission from Teddie, Issun jumped off of Amaterasu and into his hair.
Minato groaned and turned toward Teddie. "Souji ran off without giving you any spending money, didn't he?" He pulled out his wallet and handed Teddie two 1000 yen notes, which was probably more than the bear actually needed, but Minato didn't feel like taking chances, knowing Teddie. "Here. Don't spend it all at once."
It would likely be just as Teddie was about to run off that Minato stopped him again. "...Hey, Teddie. Has Souji been acting oddly lately? Like, has he been sleeping more often or just been sluggish in general?"
-------------------
Souji found Izanami toward the back of the Shrine, away from the crowds. She seemed irritated, which didn't actually seem all that strange to Souji. It would probably help if he didn't actually run into her when she was irritated most of the time.
"What are you doing back here?" Souji asked after standing there for a moment like an idiot.

Atem wasn't unaware that Atsuro wasn't happy with his dodge. But if he was going to tell anyone, it wouldn't be Atsuro. Yuugi and Souji really topped the list here, everyone else in their group was either not serious enough or knew too much about... Atem shook his head. There was no way he was here. He didn't believe that, the argument fell flat with Mokuba's presence on the Island, but he didn't want to consider the other option. Sure the man had helped them before, but...
Teddie still seemed confused. Takoyaki tended to be a little... well... gooey to chop up. He might have even expressed that opinion had Issun not leapt off of Amaterasu and into Teddie's hair. The surprise almost knocked the blond over, but after flapping his arms up and down and literally spinning in a circle, he gained his balance. He then proceeded to try to look up towards Issun despite the angle, actually causing him to almost fall backwards again. It was a kind of almost skit that rivalled Yosuke's frequent "outbursts".
Teddie jerked forward after almost falling at Minato's question. He blinked a little bit. The fact was that Teddie still didn't entirely grasp the concept of money. It wasn't that he didn't know what it was, but it was more like a little child might be. So when Minato handed him what many children would consider a small fortune, his eyes lit up. He gave a huge grin, temporarily forgetting about the small person resting in his hair, and was about to run off when Minato spoke to him. He blinked.
"He has been sleeping a lot..." Teddie mused, "Should I be worried? Sensei just says its stress..."
Yuugi considered asking Atem what was wrong, but Atsuro had beat him to it. And it was blatently a dodge, but... he decided to trust Atem. If it was important, surely the other teenager would tell him. He pointed over towards what looked to be a group of tables set up under a Japanese banner, with a smaller banner in English positioned under it.
"I think the tables are over there. Let's go, everyone!" Yuugi said. It really was refreshing how relaxed the group was getting. Even with the issue with the Items and the gods, a sort of normalcy seemed to be settling over everyone.
----------
Sayuri actually jumped a bit at Souji's voice. She turned around and her irritation lightened a bit as she saw him. She walked over to him (one had to admire her posture, actually) and let out a sigh. Interestingly enough, she really did seem like a different person now. She was standing close as she looked up at him with a tired smile, only traces of irritation remaining.
"That Seto has turned this into a complete circus, Souji-san," she said. She gestured towards the crowds, "It may be good press, as he indicated it would be, but some of the older patrons are quite upset. This is a place of worship, not a zoo! I think I'm going to have to do something to make up for it..."
She paused and scrunched up her face, "You look exhausted."

Minato's expression was flat as Teddie spoke. So it was as he'd suspected. He'd seen Souji acting rather sluggish over the past few days, but he had given him the benefit of the doubt until today. He shook his head at Teddie's question. "No, I'm sure he's right. Don't worry about it."
"Man, are ya done yet?" Issun asked from Teddie's hair. "'Cause I dunno about you, but me and Blondie are starving!"
Minato groaned. "Uh... yeah, I guess so. You guys go on to that table! Me and Ryoji want to check out some of the stuff down here." Which was an odd thing to say, considering he hadn't even asked Ryoji what he wanted to do yet.
Atsuro followed Yuugi over to the tables. He stopped just behind a couple of kids who were being instructed on how to play. There were actually a lot of kids here... Atsuro almost felt like he was too old to be here learning how to play a card game. Amaterasu sat herself down next to Atsuro, and she seemed to be staying rather close to him for some reason Atsuro didn't know.
---------------------
Souji frowned. So some people weren't too happy with this blatant marketing being shoved into a shrine on New Years. He supposed he could understand that; it was supposed to be a sacred place. He blinked as Sayuri said he looked exhausted.
"I think I haven't been getting enough sleep lately, that's all," Souji said.

With Minato's encouragement, the group finally split into their seperate groups. Teddie seemed to accept Minato's answer, with a quick nod and smile. It was a good thing that Issun apparently had a solid grip. He ran off towards the stands where he had seen the food being sold. Yuugi, Atem, Atsuro, Anzu, Jounouchi, Honda, and Amaterasu all headed towards the table that had been indicated. Ryoji had blinked at Minato's words, but hadn't objected. Koromaru seemed content to stay with them. Once the group was fully split up, he looked at Minato with a worried expression.
"What do you think is wrong with Souji?" he asked. It was pretty clear to him Minato was bothered by something.
----------
It was when Yuugi and Atem walked over to the table that the reactions hit. A few of the kids seemed focused on the cards, but the ones the teenagers weren't standing behind got wide eyes. Yuugi gave a smile with traces of a grimace, and there was a sign he knew exactly what was about to happen. Several of them pretty much flew out of their chairs, causing a bit of dissention and startled reactions from the kids that hadn't noticed the group. Yuugi looked like he was trying to disappear as people (and not just kids...) began to flock around him.
It wasn't just Yuugi, either. There were people flocking around Jounouchi and Anzu. Honda seemed to be getting less attention, and most of them hadn't even seemed to see Atem. The former Pharaoh found himself blinking. This was... worse than usual. He looked towards Atsuro as if asking for an explanation. The people were all running over each other talking really fast, most of it was positive, though... most of it.
"H-hey, what?!" Anzu said, looking appalled at a few of the people talking to her. She looked hurt and confused, "M-my name isn't Mary! Or Tea! What? Um..." Anzu fidgeted, -"Just bit... No. Why thinking I be American...?"-
----------
Sayuri frowned. Was it really just that? Souji was usually full of more energy. However, she gave a smile and a nod, pointing to a small area to the side of the Shrine. It seemed rather calm given the general chaos.
"Well, since you're here, do you want something to eat?" she asked.

Minato waited for the entire group to get out of earshot before answering Ryoji. He still wasn't entirely sure what was going on yet, but if he was right... He turned toward Ryoji, and his expression held equal degrees of worry and serious.
"I'm honestly not sure, but... he's acting like I did after I sealed Nyx. He's been sleeping a lot lately, and he just seems constantly exhausted," Minato said. "It can't be for the same reasons as what happened to me, but I'm pretty sure Souji's dying."
Koromaru whimpered. The dog could remember how Minato had been after the fight on Tartarus. And now that silver-haired person was the same way?
-----------------
Teddie managed to get the two of them over to what had been the nearest takoyaki stand rather quickly. There was already a small line, but it cleared fairly quickly. The moment Teddie reached the front of the line, Issun hopped down from Teddie's head.
"Two orders of takoyaki, chop chop!" Issun called. The man running the stand seemed confused.
"...who said that?"
"Down here! Here! Heeey!" Issun glowed a red color. "Heeey! Don't ignore me!"
------------------
Atsuro stepped out of the way of the crowd as they suddenly managed to crowd around Yuugi, Jounouchi, and Anzu. From the looks of things, just about everyone at the table had dropped everything they were doing and run up to the three of them.
- "Oh my god! Yugi! It's Yugi!" -
"Could you autograph my Black Magician?!"
- "Show us your super special awesome sexy transformation sequence!" -
Atsuro looked a bit overwhelmed too as he looked over toward Yuugi.
"Uh... I guess you've got fans," Atsuro said. He had to wonder if this was what he'd acted like before... had he been this embarassing?
----------------------
"That would be great, actually," Souji said with a smile. He hadn't really felt like eating anything on the way out this morning, so he was rather hungry now. It didn't help that he'd skipped dinner the previous night.

Ryoji initially winced as Minato mentioned Nyx. His memories were too patchy to remember it clearly, but he'd known Minato had sacrificed his life in that first fight. His eyes widened as Minato made it clear what he meant.
"Wait, what?! I..." He wanted to ask if they could stop it, but he knew the answer. Minato had been dead already even if he had been walking around (news to Ryoji). So... "Do you think he knows...?"
----------
Teddie looked down as Issun hopped down and demanded the takoyaki. The man at the stand seemed confused, and Teddie looked between the two of them a little unsure what to do. The man was currently looking at his feet rather than Issun, and after a moment he leaned over and glanced to see if there was some little boy he was missing. He still looked confused, though. Teddie stood there a bit awkwardly, not sure he should interfere...
----------
Yuugi had attempted to step over to Anzu as she began to be harassed, but his path was cut off by some more kids. He frowned, looking a bit panicked. Some girl had shoved a Black Magician card in his face asking for an autograph, and he couldn't understand most of what the English speakers were saying. He was pretty sure he caught his name from some of them. Yuugi didn't even seem to notice Atsuro.
Jounouchi seemed to be more into the crowds than the other two. This was way more attention than he got in his homeworld, where people seemed to forget he existed in favor of Yuugi or Kaiba. He heard the name "Joey" come up a lot, and he was able to figure out it was supposed to be him, so he just went with it. Someone said something about a Brooklyn dialect that confused the heck out of him, though.
Anzu was getting steadily more flustered. Most of the negative attention seemed to be directed at her. Someone mentioned something about Mai throwing a match and they were really tearing her down. Yuugi was about to just shove the kids out of the way and apologize later when he heard a shout from several stalls down. He jerked his head up at it.
-"Hey, leave her alone! All of you leave her alone! -
Anzu whirled around as Adil made an impressive dash through the crowds, coming up next to her and giving a rather harsh glare at the people surrounding her. It was probably the most aggressive look he'd ever shown, and while his words had been English the tone had explained a lot. It was enough to cause the people to shy away from her, and even Yuugi and Jounouchi lost a few of their crowd. Yuugi just looked relieved, and Atem's expression indicated he was glad something had happened. It had been going south. There were a few nasty comments under breaths about who the hell Adil was, though.
"Adil-kun!" Anzu said.
- "Are you okay, Anzu-chan? What happened...?" - Adil asked.
- "Do not know! Quickly, everyone just yelling!" -
"Anzu, you're okay, right?" Yuugi asked. She gave a quick nod in response, and Yuugi relaxed.
----------
Sayuri seemed happy with his response. What she wasn't saying was that she intended on pressing him for information once she got him sat down. This wasn't normal for him. Either his avatar or Izanagi, really. They both tended to be rather... active. The one time she could think Souji hadn't been had been a result of her granting him Persona. She had a gentle smile as they got sat down and she pulled out a bento box from a more western lunch box. It was light pink and had a cherry blossom motif.
"Here," she said, opening it up and passing it to Souji. She waited for him to take a bite before she continued, "Why are you tired? Is there anything I can help with?"

Minato shook his head. "If he does, he's been hiding it well. Or he's in denial. I don't think he knows why this is happening. I can't even think of anything that might have happened recently to cause this..."
He put a hand on his head. It wasn't like today was the first time it had happened with Souji. It had been a gradual slowing down over the past few days, and he always looked like he was about to fall asleep. The parallels to Minato's own past situation were rather blatant, at least to him.
-----------------
Issun ground his teeth together before starting to hop in front of the man's face several times, hoping to catch his attention that way.
"Right here! Right--"
He got swatted away. Issun managed to land on the ground rather roughly. He pulled himself up and glowed a bright red again. "Hey! What was that for!"
He hopped back up onto Teddie's head. "You know what, you handle it. I ain't dealin' with this guy any longer."
---------------------
Atsuro winced at the rather negative attention Anzu was getting. A lot of the claims being thrown her way were uncalled for, and most of them seemed to be coming from the English speakers. He had been forcing his way through the crowd himself when Adil had shoved his way through the crowd. The speed the man had managed to do it with surprised even Atsuro, especially as the man ran forward and yelled at everyone to leave her alone. Atsuro gave a sigh of relief. Things had been starting to get rather heated there.
"Thanks for stepping in there, Adil," Atsuro said. Amaterasu tilted her head at the man, but the wolf didn't give any other reactions than that.
-------------------
Souji seemed grateful for the bento, and said a short word of thanks before opening it. It was just as he was biting into some rice that Sayuri asked her question. He swallowed the bite he'd taken.
"Why are you asking? Really, I'm fine," Souji said. He seemed to be content with going back to eating, not realizing that Sayuri had no intentions of letting him weasel out of answering that.

Ryoji bit his lip, considering. If Souji didn't know, he didn't think he wanted to inform the teenager. There was nothing they could do for him if he was already dead, right? He seemed in thought for a moment. Then again, his girlfriend was a goddess of the underworld... was there a chance there? Wouldn't she know, or did the rules for an avatar function differently? It was pretty clear that he wanted to say something, and someone as close to him as Minato would realize he was having trouble deciding on it or not.
----------
Teddie tried to catch Issun as he was swatted off, but he missed. The man at the stand frowned and looked at Teddie, who gave him a nervous look in response. The man looked over again to see if he'd caught the "bug", and just managed to miss him hop back into Teddie's hair. Teddie looked up, almost going crosseyed, and gave an apologetic frown. He looked at the man. He still wasn't sure how Issun intended on eating a whole set, but he figured he could handle it. He had a fairly bottomless stomach, after all.
"Hey, could I get two orders?" Teddie asked, holding up two fingers.
The man looked around, "Wasn't there someone in front of you? Or was it some kid playing a prank again?"
----------
Adil looked up at Atsuro and seemed lost for a moment, but then he gave a smile and a nod. He couldn't understand his Japanese, but he'd heard his (fairly slaughtered) name and could guess based on context. He remembered Atsuro from the restaurant... it had only been days, but the Japanese teenager looked a lot worse. And he couldn't help but think something was eating the teenager from the inside...
- "Hey, are you okay?" - He asked, not thinking to wonder if Atsuro spoke enough English to understand him.
"I'm sorry about that, Atsuro-kun..." Yuugi said, "I didn't expect it to get so crazy. I think it's calming down now, but I won't blame you if you don't want to stick around..."
----------
"You're exhausted," Sayuri gave a rather calm but remarkably flat answer, "That isn't like you."
She pulled out another bento box from the basket, hers was a lot smaller. She opened it up and pulled out the chopsticks held inside. Hers was white with stylized red markings that created a sort of wave effect. She took some rice from it and ate it, swallowing. Her gaze remained on Souji the whole time. She was purposely creating an awkward silence, although it was up in the air if Souji would realize that.

Minato's train of thought was actually traveling the same line as Ryoji's. Souji's girlfriend was Izanami. Couldn't she do something? At the very least, she should know what was wrong with Souji. Minato turned toward Ryoji. There was an expression on the scarved teenager's face that suggested he wanted to say something.
"Do you have any ideas, Ryoji?"
------------
Issun grumbled. The guy hadn't even realized he was the one the voice was coming from. He'd been mistaken as a bug plenty of times before, but this was just plain insulting. He crawled out from Teddie's hair just enough so that the guy would be able to see him.
"I'm right here and I was with this guy! And you didn't even see me!"
The man's eyes widened. "Excuse me, sir, you have an insect in your hair," the man said rather calmly. He appeared to be reaching for a flyswatter.
----------------
Atsuro looked guilty for a moment before giving a fairly fake smile and nodding his head. He already knew he looked like hell, he didn't need Adil worrying about him now too. His smile became pained when Yuugi spoke up again.
"...I think I'll just come back later..." Atsuro said in a low voice. "I'm going to go check out some of the other stands, if that's alright."
Amaterasu gave a whine and pressed against Atsuro's legs, causing him to trip and jump to the side. She really seemed to be acting more like a dog than a wolf.
----------------
Souji looked away from Sayuri as an awkward silence fell over the two of them. He knew this wasn't like him, but lately he'd just been too tired to even care. He took some more small bites from his bento, but he could feel Sayuri's gaze. Finally, he lowered his chopsticks and gave a sigh.
"...I don't know what's wrong. Everything should be right, we finally got everything solved, but something feels... off. I don't know what," Souji said.
