Beth drew back. She could tell that her as an option wasn't going to be an answer.
Yang walked back up. "So what's the problem here?" she asked looking at the group.
"Bandit here isn't too happy to have my female counterpart as a partner in the music contest," Todd answered bluntly.
Beth raised an eyebrow. "What?" she asked.

"I can sing, alright? And I've got the speaker system." Mickey turned his nose up snobbishly. "I can take you suckers on by myself."
"Typical Mickey," Cat chuckled as she stepped on dry land and shook the water out of her fur. "No 'I' in team, but there is a 'me.'"
Elsewhere... "I can't believe Alfie turned us down. I can't believe I'm stuck with you all afternoon! Let's hope for both our sakes that there's someone here who understands the concept of fun!"

"Alright. Performing by yourself. Fine by me." Rio stood up, mandolin in hand, ready to give this stubborn raccoon a taste of his musical medicine.
"So are we supposed to be judging this contest?" Paul whispered to Cat, genuinely confused by the direction this was going.
"Yes, let's hope..." Harley flatly agreed. Quality time with Juno was certainly no day at the beach; not even a day at the beach could make it better. She was more than ready to dump this psycho girl with the first person she saw so she could get some quality time with a book.

Beth muttered to herself as she walked away from the group.
"I'm up for judging," Yang offered.
"You up for this Rio?" Todd asked of his partner as he brought the viola up to his shoulder.

Mickey just huffed, shooting a glare at Rio.
Cat shrugged at Paul. "Seems to be the case. I'unno, I'll do it."
Juno scowled at her accomplice. She knew Harley didn't want to be there, but when Juno decided that she wanted to go to the lake, and with neither Alfie or Rhys available to tag along with her, her party-pooper shemale partner was left to accompany the half-pint fourteen-year-old. That fact alone had already put a damper on their trip. It almost made Juno wonder why she still showed up at all.
Then Juno noticed Beth as the latter broke away from her group, giving her a flat smirk and a quick nod. "Hey. How's it goin'?"

"Oh yeah. I'm up for this," Rio boldly replied, taking a stance next to Todd and strumming a chord on his mandolin.
"Whoo! Let's do it!" Paul cheered.
After hearing Juno's half-hearted greeting to Beth, Harley came to a halt a few yards away from the group, looking them over several times. She quickly noticed that two of them seemed prepared to play some music, one with a viola, one with a mandolin. "Huh. This looks interesting."

"Decent. Here for the music battle?" she asked the pair.
"So who kicks this off then?" Todd asked.
"Flip a coin?" offered Yang.

"Eh, you guys go. Save the best for last, right?" Mickey replied, his tone somewhere between sarcasm and bitterness.
"Yeah, that sounds about right," Cat chuckled, though she clearly anticipated a different kind of finale than Mickey did.
"So that's what that is?" Juno asked, tilting her head at the group. At first, the idea of a musical showdown piqued her interest. Then she noticed the instruments being used. "Oh... Pfft. Think I'd rather watch a Pitch Perfect style riff-off. At least those have real music. And Anna Kendrick."
Turning her attention away from the peanut gallery, Juno then spotted the magnificent array of slides and water rides out in the lake. "Holy hell! ACTUAL FUN!"

If Rio was angered any further by Mickey's remark, he did a good job of not showing it. All the while, he leaned over to Todd and whispered in his ear to ensure they were on the same page.
Paul just smiled back and forth between everyone present, even taking note of the newcomers further down the beach.
"Yes. Please. Go have fun," Harley bluntly insisted before slipping past Juno and up to Beth, her expression quickly softening up. "Excuse my accomplice. I'd definitely like to see this. Oh, sorry... Name's Harley."

"Think Avicii's Wake Me Up is a good starter? I have a unique viola for it," Todd whispered to his partner.
"Beth. Follow me then Harley," she offered politely.
Yang smiled. 'Todd is so screwed,' she thought as the aforementioned male went for his viola case again.

Cat and Mickey exchanged glances, the latter asking, "So how come you're not getting in on this?"
"Because it's more fun to watch you two flail at each other."
"Point taken."
Juno predictably frowned as Harley followed Beth. "Okay, then. You guys go have no fun! I'm gonna go do the opposite of that!" She then high-tailed it to the water.

"Sounds good to me," Rio whispered back, giving Todd time to exchange violas.
Paul turned to look out at the lake, then smiled and turned back to Cat. "Looks like someone else is gonna get some use outta your hardware."
Harley rolled her eyes and let Juno go about her business without another word. She then put on her best smile as she and Beth joined the group.

Todd smiled before pulling out an obsidian colored viola with a small scepter looking bow. "Derse's Dirge," he offered with a smirk.
"It's still a hunk of wood-"
"Obsidian resonates better for this song. Prepare to be amazed," Todd noted cutting off his room mate.
"DAnce parties are more fun!!!" Beth called to Juno.

Mickey didn't even notice Todd switch out his instruments, instead putting his focus on Harley. His initial reaction was... well, dang, she was hot. But then he noticed her flat chest and the fact that she was wearing trunks over her one-piece bathing suit, at which point he immediately guessed that she was really a dude. After debating internally longer than he probably needed to, he decided that she was still pretty hot.
"Well, good," Cat responded to Paul. "I like payoff when I work hard. Or hardly work."
"Yeah, when there's music you can actually dance to!!" Juno called back as she waded through the water, eyes dead set on the PPP 3.0.

Rio grinned at his partner, strumming a few chords to ensure he was in the right key. Then he gave Todd a curt nod, ensuring his that he was ready.
Clearly, Paul and Harley were ready too, silent with respect and anticipation. The latter spared only a brief glance at Mickey, sensing his eyes on her, before turning her focus back on Rio and Todd.
