"I see." Paul nodded, tapping a claw on his open book. "And given what we talked about while we were out there... this idea of the island being built from pieces of other worlds... Well, okay, maybe I should go back a bit. What exactly happened to you and your friends' worlds?"

"Depends on the time line and which part of paradox space you talk about.... Mine for all I know is still floating around Skaia aimlessly...." she offered. "Also.... What are you looking to learn from that book?"

"What...? Oh!" Paul looked down at his book again. It felt like he would be derailing the conversation to suddenly jump from Forsaken's dilemma to his, but since she asked...
"I'm, uh... I'm reading up on dragons. Their mythos, their connection to humans... Just... trying to find an explanation for what happened to me during the fog. ...Maybe even an explanation for why I'm like this at all."

Forsaken blinked. "I said dragons weren't known to exist on my Earth," she offered. "In my opinion, I'd say you're a first generation hybrid of human and dragon. Dragons are rather adept magic users and some were rumored to shift into human forms. And if mates among their own kind is scarce, they could possibly go for an intelligent being of another race."
Forsaken face palmed shortly after finishing her rather weird train of thought. "That sounded better in my head...."

Paul snickered a bit. "No, you're fine. I get what you're saying."
He then leaned back, staring solemnly at his scaly, clawed hand. "The one thing that always confused me, though... i-if you would hear me out... is that I wasn't born like this. For the first few years of my life, I was pretty much a normal human with a normal human family. If there was any deviation in my parentage, Mom and Dad never thought to bring it up while I was undergoing metamorphosis, and I'm ninety-nine percent certain I don't have the capacity to switch back."

Forsaken nodded. "Well that blows my theory out of the water but good to know," she offered. "I think you're good being you."

"Thanks." Paul beamed at Forsaken. "Honestly, I'm not saying this in any kind of negative light. Truth be told, once I had settled into my current form, it didn't really bother me all that much. For the longest time, I didn't even care how or why it happened. I just accepted that it did, that this is the way I am, and moved on."
His smile once again vanished as he further elaborated. "But other than the childhood-spanning ordeal that was the transformation, I didn't really have a reason to be concerned. Now..."

"The fog turning you into a dragon thing.... I actually had to ask you something about that..." she offered and admitted sheepishly.

"Hmm?" Paul cast a quick glance at Kenny, who was completely preoccupied with his book. Then he innocently looked back up at Forsaken. "What's up?"

"Why of all the things in or on the island, did you put me as your sole item in your hoard?" Forsaken offered. "I'm not a beautiful princess and I wasn't that great of a person either.... I manipulated people with songs...."

Paul blinked a few times, taken aback slightly and pausing to figure out an appropriate response. The mere concept of hording anything in his dragon form was a worrying enough. The fact that he had done so with Forsaken was, in the simplest terms, just flat-out embarrassing. In reality, he wasn't entirely certain he had a logical explanation for that, but he did his best to sort out his thought process.
"Well... I guess... Well, I was just out and about when the fog hit, and when I transformed, as you gathered, I completely lost my memory. For the longest time, I was just scared, confused, angry and in pain. The first thing I really and truly became aware of beyond myself was your voice. It calmed me down. It cheered me up. It distracted me from the troublesome thoughts I was having at the time, whether they be questions about my identity or pure anger at my inability to remember." He shrugged and looked away. "I don't know. I guess I just wanted something to make me feel less... meaningless."

Forsaken nodded. "I'm glad I helped you though. And I found it surprising when you got mad at that Mistress of Twilight chick for making me bleed. I was wanting her to do that so I could use some of my abilities," She offered.

"Oh... I... did not know that," Paul murmured sheepishly. "I guess I was just... being defensive at the time. M-Maybe even a bit possessive... I dunno..."
Okay, this was awkward. Paul liked to believe he was a very open guy; back home, he couldn't exactly walk around in broad daylight without having that trait. But this was a subject matter he knew very little about, and considering it was a matter directly affecting him, there was only so much he could say before descending into humiliating obliviousness. Weren't they talking about Forsaken's world or something?
Anxious to turn the conversation back around, he began a gentle breach in the subject. "Is... this... you not wanting to talk about the worlds you and your friends came from?"

Mentally Forsaken cursed her luck. "Well they say blue dragons are wise and smart. Seems even in a human form you got that trait. Yes and no. I want to avoid the topic because of things I did that messed up our game but at the same time I don't mind talking about Losai," she offered.

Paul chuckled softly at the compliment. "I'm not sure about that, honestly..."
He leaned on the table and nodded as Forsaken continued. "Gotcha... Well, I'm not in any particular position to pry, but is there anything you could possibly tell me about your experiences that wouldn't be breaching your privacy? I figure since we're here, we could potentially help each other."
